Novel signing

This Saturday, Forbidden Planet will host a signing event for the latest Doctor Who novels from BBC Books. Trevor Baxendale, Simon Guerrier and James Swallow will sign their respective novels Wishing Well, The Pirate Loop and Peacemaker at Forbidden Planet's London store (179 Shaftesbury Avenue) on Saturday, January 12 from 1 to 2 pm.

Information posted on the British Board of Film Classification official website has reveled the identity of two new DVD releases. The first is the 1982 Peter Davison two part story, Black Orchid. The extras for this release have been cleared and include a number of deleted scenes as well as clips from Blue Peter and Points of View. There is also a documentary looking at the locations of Black Orchid. One other extra listed is a trail for another...

C'mon, throw me a frickin' bone here...

So, the fine folks at BBC America sent out an email to those of us dedicated fans who are on their "Cult" mailing list... Could they tell us any more about the show? Of course not... Could they tell us anything at all? Could they even update the website that says Torchwood premieres on September 8th... Arrrgh!

Let's face it, us Americans just aren't getting any love here, between the BBC blocking access to the website and BBC America's tight-lippedness it almost makes me wonder if we Torchwood fansin the US need to start a mutual-support group...

But enough of my soapbox... for those of you who don't read the blog regularly, here's the "official announcement" as quoted from BBC America:

The Condemned

Manchester, 2008. The TARDIS lands inside a run-down tower block, beside a dead body – which leads to some awkward questions when the Doctor is found there by the police. Made the prime suspect, how can the Doctor prove to the no-nonsense DI Patricia Menzies that this is not the open-and-shut case it seems, and that she’s actually investigating the death of an alien?

Higher up in Ackley House, a girl named Maxine watches the Doctor being taken away in a squad car. Someone wants her to find out what happened in that room, and isn’t going to be happy if she doesn’t come up with the goods. But she’s got hold of someone who knows – someone very important to the Doctor.

A deadly conspiracy is at work – one whose effects will be felt far beyond the walls of Ackley House...

This story takes place between the television adventures, The Trial of a Time Lord and Time and the Rani.

This Saturday (January 12th) sees the London Forbidden Planet Megastore play host to a book signing featuring authors Trevor Baxendale, Simon Guerrier and James Swallow They will be signing their new Doctor Who books Wishing Well (Trevor Baxendale), The Pirate Loop (Simon Guerrier) and Peacemaker (James Swallow) from 1.00 to 2.00 pm. SFX Does Torchwood!

All week long, SFX Magazine are dedicating their internet news service to Torchwood - in honour of the show's return next week! In the build up to series two they'll be posting interviews with key figures from the show's cast and crew, including Chris Chibnall, Richard Stokes and Eve Myles.

Already up are interviews with Kai Owen and Gareth David-Lloyd.

"Rhys just gets a little bit curious and he sees something that sparks his inquisitive side, and he just might do a bit of detective work... but the consequences are not what he expected. He didn't expect to find out what he actually does find out." Kai Owen explains, about his character development this year, "I think I'm in about nine, ten? Unfortunately I'm not gonna appear in anything that Martha Jones is in. So I've got a few off there."

As for every fan girl's favourite, Mr. David-Lloyd, aka Ianto...?

"Since the Cybergirl episode, Ianto was recovering and he spent a lot of the first series being in grief, and just towards the end it just started to relax a bit more. But now we've rejoined Torchwood and they've had to struggle on without Jack for a while before Jack returns, they're so close and together and they really rely on each other and care for each other. But he's just more relaxed."

The Chris Chibnall interview is now available to read, too! And there's a hint of a cheeky Doctor Who reference to boot!

"The main crossover is obviously Martha coming in, but other than that there's pretty much nothing. Well, there's a glimpse of one, very cheekily. Literally in one scene there's a glimpse of a very, very obscure Doctor Who monster." Hmmm...

Lots of people are hitting out site recently looking for James Marsters information -- and with him scheduled to appear in the first episode of Torchwood Series Two soon, we've got our first clip.

And really, we know that there won't be any need for slash fiction in this case, because the television show is definitely going there, presumably to the great enjoyment of the women (and presumably the gay men) watching the show...

I don't think this is what Doctor Who fans of five years ago would have expected though!
