| Posted: 21 Oct 2008 09:55 AM CDT Managed to find copies of the latest three Torchwood novels in Bolton Waterstones today, and with the store's 3 For 2 offer still going strong, I bought all three books (normally £6.99 each) for a very respectable £13.98 - still, if one travels to Tesco the books are currently selling for £4 each, with a grand total of £12 therefore for the set! The books are "Pack Animals" by Peter Anghelides, "Skypoint" by Phil Ford and "Almost Perfect" by James Goss (the latter being set after the events of both series two, and Joseph Lidster's Radio 4 play "Lost Souls") Peter Anghelides previously wrote "Another Life" - which readers of this site voted the best Torchwood novel of 2007. Phil Ford is the Head Writer of CBBC's The Sarah Jane Adventures (see Sarah-Jane.tv), writing episodes such as "Eye of the Gorgon" and "Day of the Clown". He also scripted Torchwood second series episode "Something Borrowed". James Goss worked with Joseph Lidster to create online content for BBCi's Torchwood website, during the first season run. You can pick up all the novels now, priced £6.99. Elsewhere, and the first wave of Torchwood action figures (Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, a Weevil and Lisa/the half converted Cyberwoman) are hitting UK stores right now. These are available from places such as Forbidden Planet and Play.com today, with an RRP of £8.99. They are fully compatable with Character Option's massive range of Doctor Who and SJA toys (i.e. they're the same size!) Also available now - a 2009 Torchwood calander! Spend those pennies folks; Christmas is a-coming! *Quick casting update that we forgot to report a fortnight ago (oops!) "Children of Earth" will feature actors John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David Lloyd, Tom Price and Kai Owen, with guest stars Lucy Cohu (playing 'Alice'), Susan Brown (as 'Bridget Spears'), Cush Jumbo ('Lois Habiba'), Rik Makarem ('Doctor Rupesh Patanjali') as well as already announced Peter Capaldi ('John Frobisher'), Paul Copley ('Clem') and Liz May Brice (playing 'Johnson') The casting news comes from issue 10 of Torchwood: The Official Magazine. | ||
| News: The Mysterious Case of the Vanishing Doctor Who Posted: 21 Oct 2008 07:16 AM CDT Just 24 hours ago, the BBC Press Office released details of this years Children in Need event, which will feature all the usual fun and nonsense on the evening of Friday November 14th on BBC One. In this release was news of a Doctor Who element, in a sentence that ran something like this: There are Children in Need themed scenes from Doctor Who and Ashes to Ashes... Yet behold! Now there is nothing of the sort at all: There is a Children In Need-themed scene from Ashes To... | ||

| Posted: 21 Oct 2008 06:35 AM CDT A while back we reported that Character Options may have ended their run of SJA toy figures - but today the company apparently confirmed that the range will continue (thanks to Doctor Who Toys.net for the info) with the following figures: SJA Series 1 & 2 Maria Jackson Action Figure SJA Series 1 & 2 Clyde Langer Action Figure SJA Series 1 & 2 Luke Smith Action Figure SJA Series 2 Rani Chandra Action Figure SJA Series 2 Martin Trueman & Possessed Clyde Langer 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 2 Paul Langer & Carla Langer (Clyde's Parents) 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 1 & 2 Alan Jackson & Chrissie Jackson (Maria's Parents) 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 2 Gita Chandra & Haresh Chandra (Rani's Parents) 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 2 Ms. Wormwood & Commander Kaagh 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 1 Andria Yates & Trickster 2 Figure Pack SJA Series 2 Odd Bob The Clown & Elijah Spellman 2 Figure Pack Great news, if true, I'm sure you'll agree! Meanwhile yesterday (sorry about the lateness of this update!) saw the broadcast of part two of "Day of the Clown" on BBC One, with the first installment of "Secrets of the Stars" following afterwards on the CBBC Channel. All the episodes of the SJA can be viewed right now on the BBC's own iPlayer for folk living within the UK. Here's a selection of comments that readers left last week regarding the finale of "...Clown": Anonymous says, "Well "The Day of the Clown - Part 2" certainly does do a great job of coming across. Rani finally gets the truth and it seems she is to be a regulaur now and is very excited to learn Sarah Jane's secret! Very good acting skills from all of the cast in a very enjoyable episode. The only critism i would give is that the House of Mirrors scene were Sarah Jane is trapped in a "mirror horror" is not very good effectswise; but other then that a powerful enjoyable 9/10 episode!" Who Cares adds, "Hmm some very strong points and some weaker ones. The ending being one of the weaker points. The principal idea was good but the execution was very lacklustre. They had something plausible and added something fantastic (note the sarcasm) for no good reason also shouldn't Rani save the day? Don't know what they were thinking on that one. On to the good points. The scene about the reasoning behind Sarah's fear of clowns was extremely well done. It not only established why she was scared of them (which is a good thing because if we didn't believe she was terrified of them the whole episode would have fallen apart) but also sets things up for "the temptation" and above all it was just a really great scene between Luke and Sarah Jane containing character development for both characters. I know mentioned this last week but Luke is really developing nicely. He's using his interpersonal relationship skills just fine in that scene. Only can't the kid get a break once in a while. The whole Luke getting taken from Sarah Jane deal is starting to get old really fast. On a side-note these two episodes are the first time I've actually been annoyed by Clyde or like Finney said "You're problem is you don't know when to lay off." Well apparently whoever wrote this (Phil Ford) didn't know either. It kinda pays off at the end but it was still too much of the good thing... This time around." Great stuff guys - keep those comments coming in! | ||

| Posted: 18 Oct 2008 10:25 AM CDT 36 Months. 156 Weeks. 1096 Days. Sorry this is a little late* (work and study commitments, of course) but I couldn't let the opportunity pass without saying happy third birthday to this very site. Three years ago, hours after the BBC officially announced their commission of a brand new Doctor Who spin-off series - Torchwood, a 21st century mix of cult classics like The X Files and This Life; or so we were told at the time - a regular blogger 'Kurly' launched this, Torchwood.tv, the internet's very first Torchwood fansite. Three years on, we're still going strong. Since our launch we've seen two televisual seasons, three audio adventures, an offical magazine, numerous tie-in novels, action figures, calenders, etc. In short, the origin of a brand new franchise, that stands proud of its Doctor Who heritage, but most definitely seperate from it. We've been hear to report all the latest happenings since that October 2005 announcement - all of us here on the team; myself ('jackharkness' aka Anthony Garnon), Peter Pan (Paul Robinson), Tremas (Rob Hoitt), Springmaus (Lauren Williams) and - of course - the one man who started it all, Kurly (Aaron Nosecondname). Thanks team, each and every one of you fantastic folk, without whom. And thanks to you, the readers - the people that come back every day, or the occassional visitor, or even first timers. We write for you, because fandom is such an amazing collective to be part of. We love hearing what you have to say - so don't ever stop writing those comments, be it the good, the bad, or the usual complaints! To Torchwood.tv; or more specifically, to the show and the people that follow it. This is for you. Thank you. Until October 2009 comes our way... *Not meaning to confuse anybody, but this was written October 21st - it was backdated so that the post could corrolate with previous anniversary posts. No worries! |
