Kopic's Doctor Who & Torchwood News |
| Posted: 29 Oct 2008 04:50 PM CDT It's a year before we see his last story as the Doctor, but he is moving on at the end of 2009. I'd expected one more year, to be honest, but it'll be nice to see a reinvigorated series from scratch in 2010 as well. Because that's how the series works... | ||

| Posted: 29 Oct 2008 11:49 AM CDT Time for me to stand om my soapbox again... If you haven't already heard, David Tennant announced what has been the subject of conjecture for some time; he is going to be leaving the TARDIS after the next season. (If you hadn't heard, don't fret, I linked the article to the title of this posting.) While you may be wondering why I make mention of the good Doctor's exploits on a Torchwood blog, it is in my humble opinion that without David Tennant's portryal of the good Galifreyan, we might not have ever had Torchwood to begin with. Whether or not you find yourself a Whovian or not, we all must agree that Torchwood was introduced as a plot element of Doctor Who, specifically David Tennant's incarnation. If David hadn't made his Doctor so vibarant, so human, we wouldn't have cared. History has shown us a myriad of science fiction contributions that are all flash, but no substance. In fact, some have argued as much of the original series of Doctor Who. But David made his Doctor transcend British television to become a staple of mainstream television and popular culture all over the world, a feat that even the great Tom Baker was not able to achieve. So in closing I leave an open personal note to David. You've made some of the most enjoyable and compelling Science Fiction, and we look forward to your final five hours. For many of us long time fans, you've justified our love of the series, and helped endear many new fans in the process. So I thank you. -Tremas | ||

"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won't be with me... | Posted: 29 Oct 2008 06:01 AM CDT The shortlist for 2008's BAFTA Childrens Awards have been released - and The Sarah Jane Adventures finds itself nominated for Best Drama of the last 12 months. The awards celebrate the very best that British film and television have to offer, and will be given out on November 3oth in a glamourous ceremony hosted - maybe - by regular Keith Chegwin., at the London Hilton. Under 14 year olds are eligable to vote for the awards here. Meanwhile the Doctor Who DVD Restoration Team have released information for the upcoming "Battlefield" disc - directed by Michael Kerrigan (who also helmed both "Day of the Clown" and "Secrets of the Stars" for the SJA) and starring Sylvestor McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, reunited with his old friend Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Nicholas Courtney). Disc one features the story, as originally transmitted on BBC One way back in 1989. The second disc features an extended recut of the story, with new music, added scenes and CGI effects - akin to the previously released "Curse of Fenric" DVD which includes a movie edition of the serial. Extras include a commentary track between Sophie Aldred (Ace), Nicholas Courtney, Angela Bruce, writer Ben Aaronovitch and script editor Andrew Cartmel. There's also: + Storm Over Avallion - behind the scenes, talking to cast and crew. + Past and Future King - how the story came to be commissioned. + Watertank - a look at the infamous watertank stunt that went horribly wrong... + From Kingdom to Queen - a talk with actress Jean Marsh. + Studio recording - recordings made during production. + Trailers (including a contemporary "Season 26" trailer) "Battlefield" is released on December 29th, and you can get it for 20 of your British pounds. | ||
