News: Kasterborous Wants YOU!

Posted: 11 Jan 2009 10:09 AM CST

We've got until the middle of 2010 until the next full series of Doctor Who, and with just a few specials between now and then, what better time to give our favourite series some deep, old fashioned Kasterborous thought and appreciation? With this in mind, we ran a poll last summer to determine three initial stories from the past of Doctor Who to focus our attentions on.  The stories are as follows: 100,000 BC/Unearthly Child Day of the Daleks Earthshock The idea is...

News: Veteran Actor Given CBE

Posted: 11 Jan 2009 08:34 AM CST

Earl Cameron is a long-established name in British television, film and theatre, and has been performing in the public eye since as long ago as 1951 - and appeared in episodes 1 and 2 of 1966's The Tenth Planet, the Doctor Who story that introduced the Cybermen... With this in mind, and his recent success in 2005's The Interpreter as the corrupt leader of an African nation (more than shades of President Mugabe), it's easy to see why Cameron - at 91 years old - has been honoured by HM The...

Big Finish Star BAFTA Nominated

Posted: 11 Jan 2009 03:34 AM CST

Noel Clarke, who will play a Jaffa opposite Christopher Judge in the launch release of Big Finish's second season of Stargate SG-1 audio dramas, has been nominated for BAFTA's prestigious 'Rising Star' award.

Clarke, known to Doctor Who fans as Mickey, has made a name for himself in the British film industry as the writer, director and star of the films Kidulthood and Adulthood. He also wrote the Torchwood episode 'Combat', and is starring in upcoming 2009 films Heartless and Doghouse.

The award, voted for by the public, acknowledges fresh talent in the film industry, and indicates a bright future for the shortlisted names. Previous nominees include those now considered to be the A-list of British acting talent, amongst them James McAvoy and Sienna Miller.

Clarke has a long history with Big Finish, having first appeared in Dalek Empire IV: The Fearless, as Salus Kade. In May 2009, alongside series star Christopher Judge as Teal'c, he will be heard in Stargate SG-1: First Prime as the Jaffa Sebe't.

First Prime sees Teal'c and his former friend Sebe't struggling for supremacy as the SG-1 team member fights to rescue Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson from the clutches of Apophis.

News: From Hamlet to Who

Posted: 11 Jan 2009 03:21 AM CST

As David Tennant finishes off his RSC stint and relaxes for a few days before being thrust headlong back into the crazy world of Doctor Who he'll be taking a rarely-plotted course - switching from Hamlet to Doctor Who. However someone who has worked with him closely over the past few months reckons he could plot the same course. It is none other than Edward Bennett, David Tennant's Hamlet understudy who stepped into the breach while the Hamlet star recuperated from a vital operation on his...

Utterly Darling

Posted: 10 Jan 2009 08:51 PM CST

Had the oppurtunity to pop down to Windsor yesterday with some friends to see our very own Elisabeth Sladen in Peter Pan! There was only a day left before the production was over, and the chance to see Lis in Victorian garb and a deeply flattering mermaid costume was too good to miss!

Our little gang of Sarah Jane fanatics pretty much took up an entire row!

Lis was born to play the part of Mrs Darling [Wendy's mother]. As a mermaid, she even made a well-placed reference to 'The Chronciles of Sarah Jane'!

After the show, I and some friends from The Sarah Jane Smith Wardrobe Appreciation Society and Girl Reporter headed 'round to the back of the theatre and waited for Lis in a freezing cold alley!

She made an appearance not long after, and signed a few programmes...

...and took a few pictures! Lis was as charming as ever, and after wishing her the best of luck for the last day of production - we all headed off to the nearest pub! We've decided that we want to Lis in a musical next!
