| News: Barrowman Speaks for Smith Posted: 19 Apr 2009 05:21 PM PDT Torchwood star John Barrowman certainly knows how to do the publicity for his new TV Tonight's the Night - cleverly interwining Torchwood: Children of Earth news and comments about Eleventh Doctor Who actor Matt Smith. Speaking to Digital Spy, the matter of a Torchwood Series 4 was touched upon briefly - but the main consideation was typically the next DOctor Who. Do you approve of Matt Smith? "It doesn't matter if I approve! But the audience will like him, I'm sure. He's an... | ||

| Hit It with a Tennis Ball and Make Her Squeal Posted: 19 Apr 2009 09:55 AM PDT Lawrence Miles still has something quite profound to say about Doctor Who, but he hasn't managed to write the essay yet. So here he attempts to distract you with mild amounts of obscenity. While mulling over last week's "Clive Doig's Trackword" in the Radio Times, I was surprised to find that the hidden nine-letter word was MEGATARTS. Then I realised that I was looking at it the wrong way around, which raises the question... why have I never before noticed that "strategem" is "megatarts" backwards? Obviously, we can say with some confidence that "The Sontaran Megatarts" would have been preferable to what Helen Raynor actually gave us: I imagine them being something like mass-cloned blow-up-dolls, with three realistic holes, or four if you're dirty and want to use the probic vent. Perhaps this is what Mark Gatiss was expecting when he agreed to appear in Sex Lives of the Potato Men. (We're fortunate that although the porn industry is obsessed with movie parodies - The Gaytrix, The World is Not a Muff, etc - there's no market in pornographic versions of Doctor Who episodes, since you can generate the titles with very little effort. Changing just one letter will get you "Lust of the Time Lords", "Planet of the Ooh", "The Unquiet Head", and "Rear Her", while changing two will get you "Hymen Nature" and "The Swollen Earth".) All right, all right. Essay soon. I'm working on it. | ||

| Posted: 19 Apr 2009 01:33 AM PDT In the middle of filming of what will prove to be David Tennant's last (for now...) appearence as the Doctor, the media are beginning to look to the show's future. John Barrowman has pledged loyalty to new Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith in a number of interviews across the past week. DigitalSpy report upon an interview thelondonpaper conducted with Barrowman last week. Upon mrunning into Matt at the BBC by chance, John has this to say, "Matt is an interesting-looking guy and if you are asking do I find him handsome, I would say 'Yes, I do'. He's a really nice guy and I think he's going to be great. But afterwards, I felt like I had been cheating on David." Afterwards Barrowman elaborated upon the story on the Steve Wright's Radio 2 In the Afternoon show: "I like him. I was doing publicity at the BBC and he was also coming in to do stuff himself. We sat down and had a conversation, he seems like a really nice guy and he's really up for it. I think he'll do really, really well. He said: 'One thing John, I'd really love it if Captain Jack and my Doctor cross paths'. I said: 'Well, we have to leave that up to the writers'. Who knows?" Indeed. Rumours have it that David Tennant films his last scenes on May 22nd (although he has another mystery 'Who related project lined up...) and Matt Smith then comes in to record the post-regeneration scene in June. He begins full time filming in mid-July. You can follow Matt Smith on Twitter here. | ||
