| Posted: 06 May 2009 05:45 PM PDT The former role of Head of Fiction at the BBC has received a savaging from the Guardian's Gareth McLean recently following Jane Tranter's Special BAFTA Award, delivered in a moment of academy sycophancy by outgoing Doctor Who star David Tennant. As Tranter moves across to the USA, her role as Head of Fiction is being removed and replaced by two lesser positions, with Christine Langan moving up the chain at BBC Films to become creative director, Ben Stephenson confirmed as "the most... | ||
| Posted: 06 May 2009 07:36 AM PDT This sighting will hardly quell rumours of a Doctor Who movie - but Russell T Davies has been spotted queing for a work visa ath the US Embassy... Times Online's gossipy womens section revealed: Russell T. Davies, the screenwriter who rebooted Doctor Who, is leaving Britain to pursue a career in Hollywood. Well, that’s the conclusion we drew after spotting the Welshman, who will quit the BBC series when David Tennant regenerates, patiently waiting in the work visa queue at the US... | ||
| Posted: 06 May 2009 07:13 AM PDT Big congratulations to Eve Myles who has just announced she is three months pregnant. The very busy actress has wanted to have a child for quite some time and finally decided with her partner to start trying after filming Children of Earth. "I thought, if I put this off any more I'm going to be 65." She said in the What's on TV article. "My partner and I decided this year was going to be the year, and we were blessed that it happened so quickly." Does this mean she is done with Torchwood? Well, not according to her. "I hope we get a new series. I'd really like to play Gwen as a mother. It's not like I have to really save the world – I just have to sit in make-up!" Makes you wonder if Gwen may have her own contribution to the "Children of Earth" on the way by the end of the third series. | ||
| The Secret Life of Captain Barrowman...? Posted: 06 May 2009 06:54 AM PDT It's Halloween all year 'round for John Barrowman... or so he would have us believe. A special premiere screening of the first episode of Children of Earth was held today, and while reporters are sworn to secrecy about all the juicy details, that didn't stop them from questioning The Barrowman about his costumed appearance on the Doctor Who set. His reply? "I actually go to the supermarket dressed as Captain Jack and that was a picture of me running from Tesco to my car and some paparazzi photographed me and they superimposed David there and that's what that is." Cue the raised eyebrows of, um, everyone who reads that. Far be it from me to call "shenanigans" on his explanation, but just take a good look at his face as he says the same thing to each reporter! One video from Digital Spy here, and another video here. (And "I'm telling you the honest to God truth, haven't read a script" -- haven't read a script? I think we may have found a loophole the size of the Rift!) | ||

| Posted: 05 May 2009 09:04 PM PDT It isn't everyday that we here at SARAH-JANE.tv come across an SJA event as genuinely exciting as Utopia! In the past, we've reported for signings featuring one, two or even three guests from The Sarah Jane Adventures. But FIVE?! That's definitely a first. The last time we mentioned Utopia, the guest list stood at Joseph Millson [Alan Jackson], Juliet Cowan [Chrissie Jackson], Christopher Pizzey [Eddie Smith] and Rosanna Levelle [Barbara Smith]. If that wasn't reason enought to go, SJA composer Sam Watts has agreed to make his convention debut by also throwing his hat into the ring! His appearance will follow hot on the heels of the Music from Outer Space concert in Liverpool last month, where he had the oppurtunity to premiere his SJA compositions to a live audience. With just a month till the June 6th convention date, and only a handful of tickets remaining - this is one signing that cannot to be missed. As the official Utopia website itself proclaims, buy now to avoid disappointment! Incidentally, if the £40 entry fee isn't for you - an informal Tommy Knight [Luke Smith] signing will be taking place in Stansted on the same day! Reiterating what we wrote in March, half the money raised by Tommy will go toward benefitting the school that invited him, whilst the other half will be donated to his favoured charity, the Demelza House Children's Hospice. Organiser, Trisha Brozek, was kind enough to pass on some details: "Tommy will be signing/photographs from 3 to 3:45 and then 4:15 to 5 although he should be arriving around 2ish. He will be supplying his official photos for autographing as well as photos which will be taken on the day. When printed he will sign them and then they will be posted to the person on the pic, i think that will be popular." For more information on the venue and event, here's a copy of the flyer. In other news, Tommy Knight's mum and sisters will be taking part in the Race for Life on 17th May, 2009. A UK-wide women-only event, money raised through Race for Life marathons are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. Please dig deep and help Sandy Knight reach her £170 target! We've sponsered her, why don't you? | ||

| Posted: 05 May 2009 07:29 PM PDT A Yorkshireman with a love of Daleks - and a lack of respect for the design of the Supreme Dalek from The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - has put together his own 6-foot home-build Skaro killing machine. It is Alan Clark's third Dalek, and it seems his neighbours in the Wakefield area are used to seeing the Daleks in his back garden. Of the latest build - based on 1980s "Dalek Storm" designs by BBC artist Rocky Marshall - Mr Clark said: "When I built the first Dalek I got... | ||
