| Posted: 31 May 2009 05:49 PM PDT Doctor Who Voyage of the Damned guest star Russell Tovey - who we might yet see again as Alonso Frame - has told ITN how good he thinks Matt Smith is. Tovey is rumoured to be appearing in one of the 2009 Doctor Who specials that mark the transition from David Tennant to Matt Smith as the Tenth Doctor breathes his last and regenerates into the Eleventh. "Matt Smith is awesome. He's a fantastic actor. I'm a big fan of his. I think he'll be brilliant," said Tovey. "Matt's... | ||
| Posted: 31 May 2009 08:24 AM PDT Whoa! It's only taken 12 years stuck in development hell, but now at last the producers of the K9 spin-off series have found enough money to make the series they've dreamt up. The series filmed its 26 part (!) first series between 3rd December 2008 and 8th May 2009, according to the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine. Made as a co-production between Disney's Jetix channel and Australia's own Network Ten, the series is aimed at 8-12 year olds and described as "a blend of The X Files and Men in Black, with a touch of Ghostbusters". The cast list includes: Keegan Joyce, 19 (playing 'Starkey' - "a 14 year old orphan rebel in a slightly-dystopian future London, whose flight from the police leads him to the mysterious old Victorian mansion.") Philippa Coulthard, 16 (appearing as 'Jorjie Turner' - "another 14 year old who's teamed up with Starkey for the sake of adventure.") Robyn Moore ('Inspector June Turner, Jorjie's mother, who "heads up the Alien Threat section of the Department, a shadowy security/police organisation.") Robert Moloney ('Professor Gryffen' - who is "experimenting with some unearthed alien technology, a Space-Time Manipulator.") Daniel Webber, 20 ('Darius Pike' - Gryffen's 15 year old streetwise assistant.) The series has been created by Bob Baker and Paul Mark Tams, and features scripts from other writers including Jim Noble, Shayne Krause and Shane Alexander. Series script editors are Anthony Morris and Graeme Farmer, with Vicki Madden being script producer. Producers are Richard Stewart & Penny Wall (Australia) and Simon Barnes (of Park Entertainment, UK). Grant Bradley & Jim Howell executive produce, and Baker/Tam act as associate producers. Rather interestingly, the series features a cameo by the original Mark I model of K9 (last seen in Doctor Who's "The Invasion of Time") before the metal mutt is then destroyed and completely rebuilt from scratch. It means this show is an official continuation/spin-off from the Doctor Who mythology (after years of trying to distance itself from the show). It should debut early 2010. More news as and when it comes in! | ||
| News: New Micro-Universe Spaceships Posted: 31 May 2009 07:41 AM PDT The much-championed Micro-Universe Spaceships have been released again under the guise of Timesquad Spacehips. They are re-releasing the Slitheen ship and Captain Jack’s Chula War Ship alongside a brand new SS Pentallian Spaceship. Each comes with a random Timesquad figure. It’s interesting for collectors in another way as well – because Character Options have always made clear they can’t talk about ideas even if they’ve been decided against in the end because... | ||
| Posted: 31 May 2009 07:22 AM PDT Video game producer Telltale have made public their desire to release a Doctor Who licensed title. The developers - many of whom were once at LucasArts and worked on the Sam & Max, Monkey Island and Grim Fandango series of games - are currently enjoying success as a result of their Wallace & Gromit title. Apparently Telltale have been requested by many fans of their games to do a Doctor Who tie-in, according to CEO Dan Connors. "It crops up around the studio a lot, but we... | ||

| Posted: 31 May 2009 05:53 AM PDT England is such a crazy country. One day you have to wear a coat to work in the morning as it's so cold ... the next it's chucking it down with rain so hard that you need a big golf umbrella (ella ella eh eh eh) to keep dry, and then that evening it's so scorchingly hot that you can't wear a jacket! But we live here and so are kinda used to the vagiaries of the weather ... Taking advantage of the nice weather, my partner Sam decided that she wanted another car (to be fair, we need two as I will be using the one for work, and so she needs another for her work) and so headed out and ended up getting the most adorable little silver softtop MG ... so we have been posing in it with the roof down, catching the rays, and generally enjoying the sunshine and the weather. The other week we ended up down by the river Thames and spent an amazingly relaxing afternoon eating tapas and drinking Long Island Iced Tea and beer while watching people go by. Both Sam and I love watching people ... I think it goes with the territory of being writers. Sometimes you see someone and a story just pops into your head! Their background or history or something equally bold and diverse and strange about them. Film-wise we finally saw Twilight ... hmm ... not that impressed. Some nice scenes where the evil vampires are hunting, but apart from that. And, I'm sorry, but vampires do not 'glitter' in sunlight. They smoke and scream and writhe and burn ... burn ... BURN! Much, much better was Ultraviolet, a kick ass SF vampire romp with Milla Jovovich. I liked the stylish way it was put together, the effects were great, and Milla struts her stuff wonderfully. The vampiric element was effectively handled as well, but it was also quite subtle too. Until next time ... | ||

| Posted: 31 May 2009 01:02 AM PDT Well, the talk at the Dana Centre on 'The Physics of the Impossible' went well, I think. Michio Kaku turned out to be sweet, charming, and very open to answering annoying questions from authors on subjects such as Planck lengths and the holographic universe. The audience were well up for it too, asking some serious questions. My own ten minutes I recall only as gabble, with lots of handwaving. | ||
