| BFI: Russell T. Davies on the Future of Torchwood Posted: 12 Jun 2009 10:21 AM PDT News abound from the preview screening at the BFI this evening in London. Reviews have begun sparking up as well as chatter about what's to come. The screening of the first of five episodes of Children of Earth was followed by a Q&A with actors John Barrowman and Eve Myles as well as Russell T. Davies himself. According to this article among other sources, when asked about the future of Torchwood, Russell T. Davies stated that Series 4 is "ready to go". He also has hopes for further crossover with the parent show, Doctor Who. Davies was still tight lipped about the official air date for the series, saying they have it set, but it is still to early for it to go public. | ||
| News: Enemy of the Daleks from Big Finish Posted: 12 Jun 2009 07:39 AM PDT Starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor with companions Ace (Sophie Aldred) and Hex (Philip Olivier), Big Finish released David Bishop's Enemy of the Daleks in May to a great response. Bliss used to be a paradise planet. The Galapagos Islands of space. But when the TARDIS brings the Doctor, Ace and Hex to Bliss, it’s been over-run with ironweed plants, and the air is heavy with the stench of burnt silk and static electricity. Worse, the Daleks are coming, on the trail of a... | ||
| Posted: 12 Jun 2009 07:39 AM PDT Ok let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a good Dalek story? Sure I hear people complain that they are overused, but I see some of those same people with a HUGE grin on their faces when they watch or hear one. They’re not fooling me, nor Big Finish it would seen as they gave us a whopper of a good story with May’s release of Enemy of the Daleks. It’s a bit of a milestone story for Hex as actor Philip Olivier can finally state: “you’re not a companion... | ||

| Posted: 12 Jun 2009 01:52 AM PDT The BBC Press Office has just released the lineup highlights for the week of June 27-July 3, which includes the latest installment of Torchwood radio plays. While these dates have been set in stone for some time (see Audio Dates), we have yet to get an official statement on when Children of Earth will be airing. There is still much speculation as to whether or not the simulcast between the US and the UK will happen. With the days counting down to the US release date (July 20th on BBC America) and the preview showing wrapping up as I writing this at the British Film Institute in London, there is little time left, I believe, before we get our final answers. | ||

| Posted: 11 Jun 2009 11:05 PM PDT The first series of Dark Shadows Dramatic Readings concludes in July with the release of Echoes of Insanity, which explores the shady past of vampire Barnabas Collins' servant Willie Loomis. Framed by Barnabas to protect his secret, Willie lies injured in the Windcliff Institute, haunted by the memories of his ordeal. His only hope is the mysterious golden angel who appears in his dreams, but does she have her own agenda? Echoes of Insanity stars Emmy award-winning actor John Karlen (Cagney & Lacey) as Willie Loomis, alongside Lara Parker as the dangerous witch Angelique. The script is by D Lynn Smith, a new contributor to the range, whose screenwriting credits include episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Touched by an Angel and Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman. "Watching the show as a child, Angelique and Willie always particularly intrigued me," she explains. "Angelique was a witch, but she was also a strong, intelligent woman who knew what she wanted and went after it – a great role model at a time when female role models were hard to come by. Willie was wild and handsome and brash. Writing this story gave me an opportunity to explore Willie's adventures before Collinsport, exploring a past to which the original series only alluded." | ||

| Posted: 11 Jun 2009 07:46 PM PDT The last time we mentioned the SJA audiobooks coming out this Autumn, they were little more than holding pages on Amazon.co.uk. Two months on and we're excited to inform you that not only do they now have titles, but vague plot descriptions, too! Huzzah! The White Wolf, written by Gary Russell and due to be released on September 3rd, sees Sarah Jane and the kids head to the village of Wolfenden after our favourite sonic lipstick-wielding heroine receives a letter from an old friend she can't remember! There, they'll try to uncover the mystery behind the white wolf carved on the hillside, and figure out what it has to do with alien abduction! The Shadow People, coming out the following month on November 5th, sees Sarah Jane chaperoning yet another school field trip. The last time she did this, the gang found themselves trapped inside a museum and Luke became possessed by a terrifying alien entity known as Ravage! Seems their school camping trip to Snowdonia isn't going to be any less eventful when Sarah Jane and the kids find themselves stranded in a harsh environment. With Rani seeming to appear in two places at once and a shadowy figure watching their every move, the gang need to unearth the secret of a nearby cave to have any hope of getting home alive! If two exciting audiobook releases weren't enough, the BBC are spoiling us with yet more SJA merchandise! A 104-page SJA Quiz Book is also due for release on November 5th. Amazon offer the following product description: "To join Sarah Jane and her friends in investigating alien goings-on, you'll need first-rate observation and investigation skills! Test what you've learnt from all three series of The Sarah Jane Adventures with these fantastic quizzes!"But that's not all! An SJA novelisation based on the third two-parter of the third series is being released unexpectedly early. The product description has some spoilers for the upcoming wedding episode, so you've been forewarned! "Sarah Jane is acting very suspiciously. When Luke, Clyde and Rani investigate, with the help of Mr Smith and K-9, they discover something unexpected – Sarah Jane has a boyfriend and she's going to marry him! Of course, in Sarah Jane's life, things are not always as they seem and some very special wedding guests ensure this is one day she will never forget!"I hope we all know at least one of the special wedding guests due to make an appearance in the story! And no, it isn't K9 wearing a bow-tie ;) Well...maybe. Does the release of this novelisation, out November 5th, mean we'll see eight episode novelisations this year as opposed to the regular four? Or are the Beeb picking and choosing the best four stories? We'll find out closer to Autumn! | ||
