| Posted: 25 Jul 2009 03:03 PM PDT The science-fiction website io9 has posted a report of the roundtable discussion Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, Euros Lyn and David Tennant took part in on Saturday at the San Diego ComicCon event in the United States. There to promote the forthcoming specials that will see out Tennant's time as the Tenth Doctor, the group discussed the future of Doctor Who with journalists, and io9's full report contains some casting spoilers for the forthcoming two-part finale to Tennant's time in the TARDIS. Apparently debunked by the group is the idea that a Doctor Who feature film is to be announced at the ComicCon event. | ||

| Posted: 25 Jul 2009 05:09 AM PDT Russell T Davies has spoken out about the Ianto Jones backlash that has swept Torchwood fandom since the broadcast of Children of Earth - and declared it as not a backlash! As reported by BBC News, fans campaigning for Ianto to be somehow revived have so far raised &ound;1,800 for Children in Need - so whatever you think of the idea, there's a good cause at the end of it. The fourth part of the 5-part mini-series saw Gareth David-Lloyd's character Ianto Jones - originally the team's... | ||

Yes we did.) but fortunately that soon passed and we made it to the convention centre just as the crowds... | ||

| Posted: 24 Jul 2009 05:39 PM PDT After almost four months of shooting, filming for the third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures concluded last week with the cast and crew's annual wrap party! Work will now progress onto the post-production stage, where FX shots will be added to the show and SJA composer Sam Watts can start preparing the scores for each episode. "None of us can believe how fast it's gone this year!" exclaims Nikki Wilson in a recent DWM article. "I think this series is better and stronger than ever." And to think, the third series almost became the series that never was, having been considered for cancellation several times whilst it was being reviewed for recommissioning! It's unlikely that the decision to cancel the show would've been taken on ratings alone. It's mainly a matter of budget. Jeremy Hunt, the shadow culture secretary, recently claimed that the Beeb are increasing their spend on imported entertainment at the expense of homegrown and children's content. The cost of imported programming from countries like the US has risen by £11m in the past year. The money has to come from somewhere, and it's assumed that children's shows like SJA are the ones getting the short end of the stick. However, the BBC responded by saying that they've merely concentrated their children's investment on producing "fewer but higher quality original programmes", citing none other than The Sarah Jane Adventure as an example! "Our quality scores for children's channels have increased since we introduced this 'fewer, bigger, better' strategy and, overall, we are spending £125m a year on children's content." A BBC Trust spokesman said it had recently reviewed children's programming and was awaiting a response from management on issues such as its budget in the autumn. They were able to state that "the BBC should remain the cornerstone of high quality UK-produced children's content." Here, here! With Children's BBC getting a new controller earlier this week - here's hoping changes are brought into place that keep shows like The Sarah Jane Adventures on our screens for a very very long time. :) | ||

| News: New Seventh Doctor Companion Posted: 23 Jul 2009 11:38 PM PDT Nine years after the release of Colditz (number 25 in the Doctor Who range), Big Finish has announced that the character of Elizabeth Klein (played again by Tracey Childs) is returning to audio Doctor Who! In Colditz, Klein was introduced as a Nazi scientist from a world in which Hitler had won the Second World War. Her time line was corrected - but Klein has never forgiven the Doctor for this defeat. And now she's back, in a season of three stories commencing January 2010. The first story... |
