Tennant NOT in The Hobbit Movie

Tennant NOT in The Hobbit Movie
News Dated: 27/7/2009

Tennant denies rumours he is set to star in The Hobbit Movie.

Speaking to MTV at this years San Diego Comic Con, David Tennant has denied rumours that he is set to star in the upcoming movie of The Hobbit:

"The Internet is a curious place, isn't it?" Tennant told MTV News.

"I think someone sits in their bedroom in Saskatchewan and comes up with an idea and they post it. And within minutes it's around the world and I'm getting phoned up by journalists and friends of mine saying, 'When are you off to shoot with Guillermo [del Toro]?'" said Tennant. "It's not something I know anything about."

"No one's talked with me," he added.

While Tennant's no stranger to special effects, he doubted even the most impressive computer's ability to bring him down to Hobbit size.

"I'm a bit tall, aren't I?" he joked. "I know they do things with CGI now, but I'm 6'1". Hobbits are little. I do have quite hairy toes, though."

Posted: 26 Jul 2009 05:35 PM PDT

It's the 27th of July 2009 - just a matter of months before the beginning of the end for the Tenth Doctor Who. Following the screening of a Waters of Mars trailer at the San Diego Comic Con over the weekend, the trailer was made available on the BBC website overnight. Starring David Tennant as the Doctor and Lindsay Duncan as Adelaide, The Waters of Mars also stars former Neighbours/Flying Doctors actor Peter O'Brien, and was directed by Graeme Harper. There's loads of Comic Con coverage on the net - but where to find the David Tennant and Doctor Who related stuff in amongst Terry Gilliam, The Hobbit and Iron Man 2? David Tennant and Russell T Davies appeared on the San Diego TV station CW6 earlier today before their San Diego Comic Con Doctor Who panel appearance. You have until noon on Wednesday to get that in to me, before the final votes will be counted, double checked and revealed sometime on Friday.

In the meantime, can I bring to your attention the efforts of one group of fans who were so unhappy with the conclusion to Children of Earth (SPOILERS for anybody who hasn't seen it yet) that they've decided to start a petition of sorts to bring Gareth David-Lloyd and his now deceased character Ianto Jones back onto the show for the proposed series four.

So far their fundraising has helped raise over £3,000 for the BBC's Children in Need. A massive congratulations to them and their efforts thus far.

The UK media website Digital Spy has published a summary of today's Doctor Who discussion panel at the ComicCon event in San Diego, which featured Russell T Davies, David Tennant, Julie Gardner and Euros Lyn discussing their time working on the programme, taking questions from the audience and previewing the forthcoming special episodes.

Among the topics raised was the possibility of a Doctor Who feature film, which the panel stated is not a project on which any of them are currently working. The panel also featured a presentation from Guinness World Records, declaring Doctor Who to be "the most successful sci-fi show on TV full stop".

We good to go?

Right.

The latest issue of SFX Magazine hit my doormat on Saturday morning, and inside SJA producer Nikki Smith discusses the third series of the show, and confirms the return of both the Trickster - as well as the Slitheen (well, their cousins, actually, the Blathereen).

"We've got another Trickster story. We've also got the return of the Slitheen for the end of the series, and this time we meet their 'interesting' cousins, the Blathereen." She states.

Also lined up for the new series are another familiar race from recent Doctor Who - "The Judoon are joining us in our series opener, alongside a brand new monster, a reptilian character called Androvax, a Veil. He's under arrest when one of the Judoon's life carriers crashes on Earth, so a Judoon's hunting down his prisoner who's escaped."

Nikki also discusses David Tennant's guest spot, the appearence of Nigel Havers, who the new series features its own "classic ghost story", as well as how the series will cope post-third series with regards to Russell T Davies departing from Doctor Who (all crossovers will be run through new executive producer Piers Wenger).

You can read about this all in the September edition of SFX Magazine, out this Wednesday.

Saturday at the Con

Posted: 25 Jul 2009 05:05 PM PDT

Today was the day it all turned around.

I don't know if it was all the fabulous Doctor Who fans I got to hang out with, but man, my Saturday rocked.

I saw John Barrowman abduct and photograph a Spartan Warrior.

I got filmed for Doctor Who Confidential.

I saw Naoko Mori in a top that defied conventional engineering.

I got to wave at Russel T. Davies and Colin Baker.

And then I took the evening off to see the Mythbusters.

Which was a huge mistake because David Tennant, John Barrowman and Russell T. Davies all attended the Doctor Who/Torchwood screening.

And they snogged on stage.

Not all at once!

David and John had a snog and then John ran over and gave Russel a chase little smooch so he would't feel left out.

I only know this because the video was posted on YouTube.  :(

So much for my network of spies.

Torchwood Series 4 confirmed?

Posted: 25 Jul 2009 04:19 PM PDT

The comics news site ComicMix is reporting that an unnamed BBC America executive at ComicCon has confirmed that the BBC has ordered a fourth series of Torchwood. There is as yet no independent confirmation of this; however, a Torchwood panel is scheduled at ComicCon tomorrow, with star John Barrowman, writer/executive producer producer/show creator Russell T Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lyn. Presumably, if the report from ComicMix is correct, the news will be confirmed at this panel.
