| Posted: 28 Jul 2009 09:50 AM PDT It was often rumoured before Matt Smith's announcement - based purely on new Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat's previous observations - but now we have confirmation in the latest edition of Radio Times... | News: Who Is She? (SPOILER POTENTIAL) Posted: 28 Jul 2009 08:41 AM PDT Taken from the latest Waters of Mars Doctor Who trailer, this bit of interference in amongst the scariness of David Tennant whispering "Water always wins" and "BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!" can quite easily be missed. Around 24 seconds into the trailer, something strange happens. Viewed like interference or a point of view from a TV set, we see a blonde female apparently holding a small child. Check out the full trailer below to remind yourself just how out of place... | ||

| Posted: 27 Jul 2009 07:29 PM PDT Doctor Who has been awarded its second Guinness World Record, for Most successful sci-fi series. The award is based upon the show's perfomance in ratings, DVD and book sales, and downloading popularity. The award was presented to Russell T. Davies by Guinness editor-in-chief Craig Glenday at the San-Diego ComicCon on Sunday. Glenday said: "It's the longest-running sci-fi show on TV. But that's quite enough, it's too good a show to have a longest-running record. Based on things like CD sales, downloads, illegal downloads, we've realised that Doctor Who is the most successful sci-fi show on TV full stop." The show's first record entry is for Longest running sci-fi series. Reported by: Digital Spy, CBC, IF Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Guardian France: Tele7, Tout le Cine, Allocine | ||

| Posted: 27 Jul 2009 06:19 PM PDT ![]() Wow! Four months since my last blog. How time flies! Speaking of Time, with a capital T, I've just seen the trailer (as premiered at Comic Con) for "The End of Time" - this year's two-part Christmas special and... David Tennant's last regular outing as The Doctor! And man, does it rock! Even through the shaky-vision camera style and the muffled sound it looked fab. It was sooo good it almost made me stop thinking about Series 5 next year with Matt Smith and the delectable Karen Gillan. The Eleventh Doctor's costume was a bit of a surprise at first and, I must say, I am hugely disappointed that the Beeb didn't release a proper publicity shot ahead of the papparazzi shots we got on the day of filming. A nice shot of Matt and Karen in costume standing in front of the newly redesigned TARDIS exterior wouldn't have gone amiss. However, that candid first picture of the two of them sharing a laugh whilst sat on the steps of a trailer IS very good - it captures the chemistry between the two nicely. So good in fact that a close up of their faces now adorns my computer desktop, and accompanies this post. Critique-wise, the Doc's costume grew on me rapidly - it reminds me of a cross between Patrick Troughton and Indiana Jones' professorial outfit. It also reminds me of how a friend of mine used to dress twenty years ago - yes, he was a big Dr Who fan! So, it's all looking good for the future of Dr Who with some excellent looking specials coming up to cap the Tennant/Davies years and some good casting and design decisions for Series 5 and beyond! | ||

Towb had a long and distinguished career in British film and television appearing in many classic programmes during a career lasting nearly sixty years. Towb had two roles in Doctor Who. He first appeared as Osgood alongside Patrick Troughton in the 1969 story The Seeds of Death. | Posted: 27 Jul 2009 06:58 AM PDT Please Note: There will be spoilers in this blog entry if you haven't seen the UK press in the last week, or the reports out of San Diego Comic-Con.
The last week has been a fantastic time to be a Doctor Who fan - and the proof of how great this show is, could be seen in the thousands of screaming fans in San Diego yesterday morning, as the celebrated the coming end of an era - And what a ride that ending looks like its going to be. Frights on Mars with water and who knows what else, and then "The End of Time" itself, with Wilf, Donna, the Master, Timothy Dalton and the last days of Planet Earth!!!! It all looks very dark indeed! Whatever happened to Russell's promise not to scare the kids on Christmas Day??!!!! | ||

| Hornets' Nest #1 - CD cover and info Posted: 27 Jul 2009 06:08 AM PDT Hornets' Nest #1 - CD cover & details BBC Audio have sent DWO the cover & details for the Hornets' Nest #1 CD release. Hornets' Nest #1: The Stuff of Nightmares Tom Baker reprises the role of the Fourth Doctor in the first of five thrilling brand new audio adventures, with Richard Franklin as Mike Yates. 'Wanted: retired army Captain for light household duties and fireside companionship. Must tolerate mild eccentricity and strong scientific advice. Knowledge of Giant Maggots, Super Intelligent Spiders and Prehistoric Monsters a positive boon.' Responding to an advert apparently worded for him alone, Captain Mike Yates (retired) is reunited with a ghost from the past. But why has the Doctor, that mysterious traveller in Time and Space, sent for his former UNIT acquaintance? Trapped by a horde of vicious creatures in an apparently innocuous English country cottage, the two old friends are on the brink of an enormous adventure. As the Doctor relates his recent escapades, it becomes clear to Mike that they – and the Earth at large – are facing an enemy of unimaginable power and horrific intent. The nightmare is only just beginning... With Tom Baker as the Doctor, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey and Daniel Hill as Percy Noggins, The Stuff of Nightmares is the first of five linked stories written by the acclaimed Paul Magrs. ** DWO can also confirm the casting of Rula Lenska as the Hornet Queen. Hornets' Nest #1: The Stuff of Nightmares is released on 3rd September 2009, priced £9.99. | Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Part One Posted: 27 Jul 2009 06:03 AM PDT I'm so sorry I didn't post this earlier. I was sooo exhausted and I'm still knackered today. Sunday was amazing. I had trouble sleeping and got up at 4:30. I was down at the Convention Center by 5AM. Out in front of the Con was the 'God Line'; everyone with a pass that wanted in, needed to be in this line. When I got there, there were about five hundred people in line in front of me. Some were there to get onto the Expo floor, some were there for gaming, some were there for the Supernatural panel, some for other panels and then there were all of us in line for the Doctor Who panel. When my Husband had come in at midnight, he had gone by to see if a line had started. He saw about seventeen people in line. I spoke to one of these people hours later and she said there had been about five people who started the line at 8PM. So, some people had been in line over 24 hours to see the Doctor Who panel | ||
