The BBC have released this picture of the forthcoming new animated Doctor Who story Dreamland. The 45-minute story will be broadcast in six installments on BBC2 and BBC HD this autumn. David Tennant will be joined by Georgia Moffet as new companion Cassie Rice. Moffet of course played The Doctor's Daughter, and is also really the Doctor's Daughter in real life - that is, Peter Davison's daughter. She's also David Tennant's girlfriend. David Warner, who Peter Davison once recommended to this blogger as the person they should cast as the Doctor in the new series, is also in Dreamland, playing Viperox, allegedly the stories villain. Warner, well-known to sci-fi fans for his role as "Evil Genius" in Time Bandits, has acted with David Tennant in Doctor Who before - in the Doctor Who Unbound audio play Sympathy for the Devil, only on that occasion Warner was playing the Doctor and Tennant was playing UNIT Colonel Brimmicombe-Wood (and Nicholas Courtney reprised his role as Lethbridge-Stewart for the only Tennant-Courntey Doctor Who story to date). The new animation pic looks cool and I think is a nice change from the previous style of animation used for The Infinite Quest and other animated-features for Who done by Cosgrove Hall. But I do wish for once that they could come up with a promotional image that doesn't feature the Doctor wielding the Sonic Screwdriver as a weapon!

| Posted: 24 Aug 2009 04:49 AM PDT It's time for the better-late-than-never August Podcast. And this month, it's a Rob Shearman Special. Rob is the acclaimed writer of many Big Finish Doctor Who releases, such as The Holy Terror, Chimes of Midnight and Deadline (starring Sir Derek Jacobi). He also wrote the TV series episode Dalek. Now, Big Finish are proud to announce that November 2009 will see the publication of Rob's second collection of short stories, Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical. His first collection, Tiny Deaths, won a World Fantasy Award. Here's what new Doctor Who executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat has to say of Rob's latest short story collection: 'Shearman offers us haunting, nightmare alternatives to our world that are still somehow utterly recognisable, thank to the way he always picks out the comically mundane among the impossible and the fantastical. He makes each story cling to you, forces you to make sense of it and somehow inhabit it.' In this free podcast, Rob discusses his new book with old chum Nick Briggs. And they sometimes stick to the subject. Download it now or stream the audio. The choice is yours. | ||

There are certainly touches of Holmes and Watson about the way the Doctor and Mike [Yates, played as...
