| Posted: 10 Oct 2009 10:45 AM PDT BBC Worldwide dropped a squee-bomb on me last Friday, when they were kind enough to pass along a preview disc of the soon to be released second series SJA boxset! This preview was sent to me so ridiculously early, even the BBC haven't taken delivery of the completed boxsets from their factories yet. So, fresh off the printing press for your reading pleasure, here's SARAH-JANE.tv's taster of what you can look forward to from 'Disc 4' of the series two set. ![]() Yep, the same ol' menu from the Invasion of the Bane DVD, which were recycled in the complete first series boxset last year and, it seems, have been once again for the second series set. I don't mind this too much, though. 'Cause if it a'int broke, why fix it? Whoever designed the DVD menus two years ago did a pretty solid job. Be a shame to waste such a talented piece of work. Though, they do shake up the menus a little with some minor changes. ![]() ![]() ![]() You don't see much variation until you delve into the Secret Files section... ![]() ![]() ...where new episodes are summarised... ![]() ![]() ...new characters are introduced... ![]() ...behind-the-scenes set piccys are squee'd over... ![]() ...and certain epic cinema trailers can be seen in all their hi-res glory! ![]() ![]() This was, perhaps, the part of the second series boxset I've been looking forward to most. I had the pleasure of seeing the SJA cinema trailer on the big screen last Autumn, when I went along to see City of Ember at my local ODEON. The trailer ended up overshadowing the movie it was tagged onto by miles(!) And it's easy to see why. Not only is the trailer well-edited and exceedingly well-written, but it looks gorgeous on my HD-ready laptop. Which I found impressive considering the trailer was shot with non-HD equipment! The cinema trailer makes The Ten Doctors trailer [found on the same menu screen] seem like it's been crudely cobbled together by a fan making a Doctor Who AMV on Windows Movie Maker. If you're curious, the trailer features a bunch of random Classic Who and New Who moments strung together, backed by a Doctor Who theme tune from yesteryear - with the caption 'Dr Who: ten times better than anything else in the universe' slapped on at the end(!) Suppose the Beeb are trying to get a whole new generation into Classic Who! Good luck to 'em. Dorky parents have been trying to do the same for years! xP ![]() The Quiz from the first series boxset is back as well, 'cept this year you have to answer questions from *gasp* series two! After you correctly answer five questions in a row [harder than it looks if you don't know Sarah Jane's starsign!] you'll be 'treated' to a viewing of the Comic Relief special. ![]() I think they should've opted for new outtakes, though...and saved the Comic Relief special for the third series boxset. If and when they release a Blu-ray set of the third series [we can dream!] I'd have liked the option to see From Raxacoricofallapatorius With Love in HD. I know, I know - it wasn't that good. And indeed, most of the second series was a bit hit n' miss for fans. But there's no denying that it had some genuinely hilarious moments: | ||

| Posted: 10 Oct 2009 06:23 AM PDT As you may have heard already this weekend, influential former Doctor Who director, producer and writer Barry Letts has sadly passed away. Barry Letts - whose association with Doctor Who began with 1967's The Enemy of the World - began his career as an actor in the 1950s before moving behind the camera to work as a director. Taking over the role of Doctor Who producer from Derrick Sherwin in 1969, Letts was in charge for the entire Jon Pertwee era of the show, as well as overseeing the... | ||
