News: Sonic Screwdriver Explodes (SPOILERS?)

Posted: 12 Oct 2009 05:38 AM PDT

On-location snaps of Matt Smith recording Doctor Who last week revealed a key moment in the life of the sonic screwdriver.  It's had so many shapes over the years that it would be foolish to try and list them all here - however it's fair to say that there have been two key designs. In the original series, the Doctor's faithful tool - first seen in the hands of Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor - was a silver device similar to a GP's otoscope. With the return of Doctor Who in 2005...

News: Doctor Who Museum to Close

Posted: 11 Oct 2009 11:21 PM PDT

Experience Design have announced the last chance to see the classic collection of Doctor Who items at the Doctor Who Museum in Blackpool, which will close on November 8th after 5 years. The Doctor Who Museum in Blackpool features a unique...

And another one!

Posted: 11 Oct 2009 11:14 PM PDT

The brilliant folk over at the BBC have stepped up their third series marketing campaign with the release of a STUPENDOUS new two-and-a-half minute SJA trailer! Featuring clips from every two-parter in the upcoming series and narrated by Elisabeth Sladen, the trailer was first shown at the Soho press screening of Prisoner of the Judoon a few weeks ago - but has only just gone public. Looks and sounds like this is the cinema trailer we've all been waiting for!

However, various sources have confirmed that the Blathereen trailer plonked up on the SJA website at present is the one making the rounds in cinemas across the nation; tagged onto the Disney-Pixar movie, Up! Which is a darn shame, 'cause from the looks of it - this new trailer is far farrrrrr superior:

Meet Eve! She can make you play games against your will O_o

Blathereen in the attic, oh my!

Mona Lisa, armed and fabulous!

The medieval ghost from The Eternity Trap?

The Trickster has a change of wardrobe for the wedding two-parter!

And a rather unexpected wedding guest!

Those are just a fraction of the shots from the trailer, to see the whole thing in its entirety - head over to the official SJA website! For those who live outside the UK, you can watch it over at a brilliant new SJA fansite called Enter the Attic! Is your heart a-racin' from the epic overload of visuals? Do you think you can't possibly squee anymore than you already have? Oh believe me, the BBC have a lot more up their sleeves before the third series airs! Stay tuned!

Farewell Great Macedon

Posted: 11 Oct 2009 08:02 PM PDT

Nothing at the End of the Lane have just published Farewell Great Macedon, a 258-page, A4-sized, perfect bound softcover book, available for order exclusively via themselves. Details below:
In early 1964, when Doctor Who was only a few months old, actor and scriptwriter Moris Farhi, under the guidance of script-editor David Whitaker, wrote a six-part historical adventure entitled Farewell Great Macedon, detailing the Doctor's encounter with Alexander the Great in the ancient city of Babylon.

Nothing at the End of the Lane is proud to present, for the first time ever, the complete script of this unproduced Doctor Who story in one special-edition volume. Covering over 250-pages, Farewell Great Macedon not only reproduces the original script pages for all six episodes, but also features:

»Foreword by Moris Farhi.
»The history and development of the Farewell Great Macedon script and Moris Farhi's association with Doctor Who between 1964 and 1977.
»Reviews of the story by Jeremy Bentham, Paul Scoones and Philip MacDonald.
»A special edition of DWM's Time Team.
»A historical examination of Alexander the Great's life and death compared with that seen in Farewell Great Macedon.
»Stunning new artwork by Jason Fletcher and Adrian Salmon.

This special edition also contains the one-episode tester script, The Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance, written by Farhi for David Whitaker at a time when the Doctor was still halfway though fighting his first on-screen battle with the Daleks.

News: Sarah and the Doctor

Posted: 11 Oct 2009 06:36 PM PDT

As you probably know, The Sarah Jane Adventures returns this week with the two part story Prisoner of the Judoon - and later in the series, David Tennant joins the show for highly anticipated crossover story The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith! Having Tennant appear as the Doctor in one of the spinoff shows is of course pretty marvellous - and also sees the character return to the traditional 25 minute format of (the majority of) the classic series. The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith stars Lis...
