Posted: 03 Sep 2008 08:52 AM CDT Series 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures is set to air on Monday September 29th (scheduled broadcast time TBC), and the current issue of SFX contains some snaps of the new run. SFX Magazine features an interview with producer Nikki Smith, but of more interest is an interview with newcomer Anjli Mohindra who plays Rani on the SFX website. Rani is a replacement for Maria Jackson (with Yasmin Paige sittings exams during the production), but she's by no means a cookie-cutter clone. SHe's not daft...

Daniel Anthony public appearance Posted: 03 Sep 2008 06:51 AM CDT ![]() Daniel Anthony, who plays Clyde Langer on SJA, will be appearing with CBBC at the Thames Festival on London's South Bank on the weekend of 13th and 14th September! He'll be there supporting the young film-makers at the 'Me and My Movie' tent, located in the Jubilee Gardens by the London Eye. Children aged 7 to 14-years-old can sign up for a one-hour shoot, watch a clip from one of their favourite CBBC programmes, work out what happens next - then film it! They can even go behind-the-scenes of Newsround and try their hand as a reporter or camera operator in a specially built studio experience! The workshops go on from 12 noon to 7pm on both days, but kids will probably need to book places early to avoid disappointment. For more info, head to the Me and My Movie website. In other news, the brand-new SJA website is finally up! Boasting a sleeker interface, character info on Rani Chandra, new wallpapers and a new videos section - it'll certainly whet your appetite for the second series!
Posted: 03 Sep 2008 04:34 AM CDT (With Special Offer Coupon) Anyone in the general area of London should be reminded that this Thursday is a Tavern day. As you may recall, I've been greatly disappointed by recent Taverns: whereas it was once the meeting-place of all the hip kids in fandom society (and Paul Cornell), it's now almost entirely populated by fat old men (but not Paul Cornell). This is particularly galling when you consider that Doctor Who is now younger and more dizzy-headed than ever before, as if the Tavern has become the haunt of dissolute old-school geeks who stand around muttering "bah, if it's CGI then it's not a real Macra". This clearly needs to change, which is why I urge any New Blood who may be reading this journal to turn up tomorrow evening. The venue is the Fitzroy Tavern, Charlotte Street, in the shadow of WOTAN (i.e. you can see the Post Office Tower from the corner). And if the Tavern's too crowded, or you just don't like the drinks, then we can always decamp to one of the nearby pubs that usually takes the Doctor Who overspill. As an extra incentive, I'm prepared to bring presents for anyone who hasn't been there before. As you can imagine, I have a large stack of now-unwanted books and toys that might interest the typical "retro" fan: old Target novelisations, BBC Worldwide cash-ins that I stole from Steven Cole's office while he wasn't looking, early '80s guidebooks that were wholly unnecessary even at the time, Doctor Who Discovers Space Travel, the Dapol figure of Davros that's bright pink and has two hands... you name it. To stake a claim to one of Lawrence Miles' Ever-Changing Special Prizes, just log on to a well-known message board - ooh, let's say, Outpost Gallifrey - and leave a message that reads "I would like Lawrence Miles to give me...", followed by the name of the item you want. If I happen to have it spare (g'wan, use your skill and judgement), then I'll turn up with it tomorrow night. Last orders at lunchtime. When making your choice, remember that I've got an awful lot of left-over contributors' copies of my own books, so they're a (fairly) safe bet. Especially the more recent ones. Note also that if you're (a) female or (b) male but with elfin good looks, then you can feel free to complete the sentence "I would like Lawrence Miles to give me..." with something a lot more exotic than "...a cassette copy of Peter Davison Reads Kinda".

Posted: 03 Sep 2008 03:48 AM CDT If you head over to the official SJA website, you'll be greeted by this image: SARAH-JANE.tv got in touch with Carbon Studio, the designers behind the website, and asked them what goodies we could expect after the update: "...the BBC requires us to sign major confidentiality agreements regarding information about unlaunched websites... So our hands are tied a little with specific information. But we have been working on a 're-fresh' of the SJA site for Series 2!" A little vague, but exciting! The new SJA website should be online fairly soon.
Giant Spider Invades Liverpool Posted: 03 Sep 2008 12:05 AM CDT Arachnophobes should steer clear of Liverpool city centre, as the European Capital of Culture celebrates by erecting a giant mechanical spider on the side of a tower block. She goes by the rather unthreatening name of La Princess. Cheers to Captain Mac on...

Posted: 02 Sep 2008 08:22 PM CDT A cute, out of proportion rubber foam Dalek - a relic of the original bout of Dalekmania in the 1960s - has sold at auction for an staggering &ound;1500. Bought for 50p in the mid-1960s, the fragile foam Bendy Dalek features an unusual paint job, and is one of the rarer toys from the 1960s.
