Carolyn Edwards Interviewed

Posted: 08 Oct 2008 11:12 AM CDT

It's been a busy year, new Who, new websites - but OK I admit it: I forgot to run this interview with Carolyn Edwards from last year.

Carolyn, if you're reading this - I'm so sorry!  And please reply to my emails!

So, as the back end - in fact the crown jewel - of our Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor articles last Autumn, we were going to run this interview.  Sadly something happened, got inthe way, and this never occurred.

So to all of you out there and particularly the lovely Carolyn - sorry.  Now read it, its rather FAB!

Podcast with Gibbons

Posted: 08 Oct 2008 09:36 AM CDT

The title conjours up a still life painting of some difficulty. However, what I'm talking about is that the Geek Syndicate have put up their podcast (made at the Birmingham International Comics Show) of myself, Dave Gibbons, Mark Buckingham and Doug Braithwaite talking about British comic creators approaching the US industry: which, it turns out, Dave first did in 1973! It can be found here:

Sarah Jane Ratings

Posted: 08 Oct 2008 01:59 AM CDT

Unofficial overnight figures show that Episode Two of The Sarah Jane Adventures achieved an audience of 0.6 million. The programme got a 6.1 per cent share of the audience. The average is slightly down on week one, probably because the episode had already been shown on CBBC. Final figures for the BBC1 and CBBC showings will be released by BARB next week. The Appreciation Index for the episode was 86, putting the programme firmly in the excellent category. It was highest figure on BBC1 for the

Huzzah, the Region 1 first series SJA boxset popped through my letterbox this morning! Wasn't expecting Amazon to ship it across the Atlantic so fast, but here's what Region 2 SJA fans will have to look forward to when the boxset comes out in the UK next month!

Haven't had the chance to watch the DVD's yet, but Den of Geek have a fairly informative review of what to expect. The Region 2 boxset comes out on 10 November 2008, and is currently available for preorder on Amazon for £15.98!

The Doctor's House Call

Posted: 08 Oct 2008 12:38 AM CDT

Uber-fansite Den of Geek has today posted a preview of the fourth series DVD release of Doctor Who, which includes a rundown of the special features included on the discs. Apparently there's a number of deleted scenes from both "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" which could, potentially, mean that we'll see cut scenes starring Sarah Jane Smith!

NO STRANGER AROUND THESE PARTS...

David Tennant's usual "Production Diaries" return, and will feature 15 minute behind the scenes footage of the cast and crew recording that same season finale.

It also includes information collected from the 14 episode commentaries*, which includes a few nuggets about the production of The Sarah Jane Adventures series 2, which - when they were recorded in May 2008 - was still in the middle of production.

These include:

• The production team couldn't find an actor short enough for Kaagh in The Last Sontaran so they had to make a new costume - thereby upping the cost of the episode.

• The actor who played the milkman from Journey's End is to appear in an upcoming episode.

• Catherine Tate wants a part (but not as Donna Noble), as her daughter loves the show.

• David Tennant wants to be the voice of 'Mr. Smith'.

• The biggie! David Tennant was to appear in the opening episode (in a sub-plot which would explain why K9 wasn't appearing in the show) but, at the time of recording the commentary (May 2008), this idea was binned. Julie Gardener states "it could still happen".

Thanks to Den of Geek - who also include a review of the SJA series one boxset, and report rumours about a certain Tom Baker [SPOILERS, perhaps]

*Sadly, there's no Lis Sladen commentary. It's the "School Reunion" fiasco all over again! Haha. No, seriously, she was too busy filming her own show to take part. I'm guessing you'd rather have twelve new SJA episodes than one/two retrospective commentaries?!

Apparently, monsters wear makeup too... 25-year-old Helen Rowe, of St John’s, Worcester has worked for Millennium FX for more than four years and in that time has helped create some of the scariest aliens seen in Doctor Who. Helen was lucky enough to meet Neill Gorton at a trade fair back in 2004, and found herself as part of his monster workshop after graduating - a logical progression for an interest in makeup and costume that runs back to seeing the music video for Michael...
