| Posted: 11 Nov 2008 10:23 AM CST Yours truly was privileged last week to be invited to the press launch of this new series of Doctor Who books from Penguin. The Darksmith Legacy will be a series of ten books (the first two to be published in January) accompanied by a website providing many opportunities to explore this new saga in print and online. The books will have puzzles and clues that enable the reader to unlock different locations on the website in order to help them complete a quest... The graphics on the website are superb and the preview of the first book, "The Dust of Ages" by Justin Richards, leads me to believe this will be a big hit. You can read my full account of the launch event over at Kasterborous... | ||
| News: Knowing Me, Doctor Who... Posted: 11 Nov 2008 09:34 AM CST Steve Coogan for Doctor Who? That was the question posed to the comedian recently when he was interviewed during his first tour in around 10 years. BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat (is it me, or is that such an old, yesterday, 1980s "hip" "trendy" and downright naff name for a news bulletin?) spoke to Coogan, and alongside lots of questions about Alan Partridge (there's more on that over at Quintessential Comedy) they asked him the big question... Your name has been thrown into... | ||

| Posted: 11 Nov 2008 09:23 AM CST A review of Toby Hadoke's Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf show has been published in the Louth Leader, and if you haven't seen the show yet you will certainly want to after reading it. It's a touching show, by all accounts, and even features the voice of David Tennant. I've seen clips of it on Youtube, which showcases the comedy aspect of the show - there is much more to it, however, as Hadoke tells a wonderful tale of father-son bonding. It is about his relationship with his son, his wife... | ||
| Posted: 11 Nov 2008 08:41 AM CST This month edition of Torchwood: The Official Magazine is a much improved effort after the last couple month's worth of reads. It offers another update on the filming of "Children of Earth", specifically revealling the rather vague name of a new alien race featured throughout it - the '456' (pronounced "Four-Five-Six"). Russell T Davies named the race publicly at last month's Cheltenham Literary Festival, which he attended with John Barrowman. Question... the 456 - good guys, or ultimate evil? + TORCHWOOD MAGAZINE'S 11TH ISSUE - OUT NOW! Meanwhile there's more casting details, as Nick Briggs (voice of many alien races - including the Daleks and Cybermen - in NuWho) makes his first appearence in front of the cameras, playing an unspecified role. Nicholas Farrell also appears as Brian Green (who "plays a pivotal role throughout all five episodes."), Katy Wix as Rhiannon, Rhodri Lewis as Johnny, Ian Gelder as Mr. Dekker, Charles Abomeli as Colonel Oduya and Hilary Maclean as Anna. | ||

| Posted: 10 Nov 2008 08:46 PM CST That's what I wrote in a letter to Tommy Knight last year, with regard to SJA getting a second series someday, and a DVD boxset, to boot. The letter was written shortly after The Lost Boy had been aired, back when SJA's future was less than guaranteed. And now, a year on, it seems SJA's done pretty well for itself! Seeing as we're halfway through a fabulous second series and [as my colleague noted yesterday] we finally have our long-awaited boxset! Picked up my own copy from Zavvi yesterday, who hadn hadn't even put the set out on the shelves yet. When the clerk pulled out a handful from behind the counter, my heart literally skipped a beat! The boxset was just so...sleek! This was the defining moment that every self-respecting SJA fan had been waiting for. To own a little piece of SJA history. And here it was, IN MY HANDS!Aesthetically, the boxset itself is PERFECTION! Comparing this set and the American SJA boxset released last month is like comparing night and day. They're totally different! One set looks crudely put-together, whilst the other is the epitome of professionalism. The gorgeous cover art speaks for itself: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Content-wise, it's chock-full of games, alien profiles, outtakes and, not to mention, episodes! To see them without a CBBC logo in the corner is like a breath of fresh air! I paid £17.99 for the set at Zavvi, but it's available for £15.98 on Amazon.co.uk. Either way though, the boxset is worth every penny! | ||
