| News: OBITUARY - Peter Copley (20th May 1915 - 7th October 2008) Posted: 19 Nov 2008 11:06 AM CST It is with sadness that Kasterborous.com marks the passing of Peter Copley, known to Doctor Who fans as Dr Warlock in the Tom Baker story The Pyramids of Mars. Peter Copley was born in 1915 in Bushey in Hertfordshire and had a very long and distinguished career appearing in hundreds of TV shows, among them some genre classics such as Doomwatch, The Avengers, Survivors and most recently as Greyhald Spold in Sky One's adaptation of Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. He also appeared in One... | ||
| Posted: 19 Nov 2008 10:25 AM CST 23rd November sees the 45th anniversary of the first showing of Doctor Who and to celebrate this wondrous event the nice people at Kasterborous.com are offering a few choice items as free giveaways to those people lucky enough to have their names drawn from a proverbial hat. I say "hat" because I don't know yet what the actual receptacle will be for collecting the names that are sent in via email. Head on over to Kasterborous.com for your chance to win a copy of "The Time Traveller's Almanac" and/or Lance Parkins' "History of the Universe" and/or some pretty exclusive art prints from Anthony Dry - Kasterborous' own art director whose work has also adorned the pages of Doctor Who Monthly, the Complete 3rd Series box set and numerous Big Finish productions. Good luck! | ||
| Posted: 19 Nov 2008 09:32 AM CST The Glittering Storm was my favourite SJA audiobook last year, primarily because it followed the unwritten SJA formula...to the letter. Abiding by the formula isn't an exact art, but the basic elements usually involve a mystery, a threat, diverse locations, plenty o' humour, a little tension and, above all, great writing! Stephen Cole's The Glittering Storm had this in spades last November, but I had my doubts that he could top himself in The Ghost House. Oh, how wrong I was...! I confess, I was somewhat disappointed with Peter Anghelides' contribution to the SJA audiobooks this year. It just didn't sit well with me. I mean, a food monster? Come on(!) *shakes head* But The Ghost House trumped all the other audiobooks [even the episodes to some extent] and delivered some fantastic writing, great music and, of course, a brilliant reading by Lis! She's even managed to get her Clyde impersonation spot-on! No more uber-chavvy inflections, just good ol' fashioned Clyde Langer - funny, adorable and fearless to a fault. The audiobook has a sturdy plot, brilliant characterisation and gives listeners a genuine sense of fear and suspense. I was hooked to the story from the first word and on the edge-of-my-seat throughout. Long story short, I highly recommend getting it! Here's hoping the Beeb are smart enough to keep Cole around till next year. The Ghost House and The Time Capsule are now available on iTunes. | ||

| Posted: 19 Nov 2008 04:45 AM CST Few films have ever had such a good ambassador for their cause as Terminator: Salvation's McG. | Posted: 19 Nov 2008 12:50 AM CST Rumours of the return of the Master won't exactly dissipate with this latest news, which concerns a chat John Simm had with The Times. As well as relating to how he and Philip Glenister spent a lot of time moaning on the set of Life on Mars ("Christ, I can't stand actors who complain about their jobs. Though Phil and I used to sit around eating too much and moaning. It was like Moany Men on Mars. Moany Fat Men on Mars"), Simm - who first appeared as The Master in Utopia - made a... | ||
