| Posted: 05 Dec 2008 08:46 AM CST After the announcement of David Tennant leaving, it was inevitable that the media would begin to speculate on who would assume the role of the Doctor in 2010. BBC Entertainment reporter Lizo Mzimba made a report on Tennant's departure which ran on BBC news programmes over the course of yesterday, citing Paterson Joseph (previously seen in the series as Rodrick in the Series One finale), David Morrissey (to be seen in the forthcoming Christmas special), and James Nesbitt as the leading choices. | ||
| Official: David Tennant Leaving DW After TV Specials Posted: 05 Dec 2008 08:46 AM CST David Tennant will be leaving Doctor Who at the conclusion of the 2009 specials currently in production, the actor announced live on stage this evening at the National Television Awards. The Guardian newspaper this evening broke the story prematurely, reporting on their website (in a report subsequently pulled down) that Tennant is "vacating the TARDIS and leaving the BBC's Doctor Who series at the end of next year. Tennant's decision brings to an end his popular four-year tenure as the time l | ||

According to the official Doctor Who website, Catherine Tate (who collected the Drama series award alongside Executive Producer Russell T Davies) said "I know it's won the award for the last three years, but I was sweating that we wouldn't the year I joined!" | Posted: 05 Dec 2008 05:09 AM CST The Escapist reports on a UK Women's group starting a campaign for the next Doctor to be played by a woman. They cite the fact that over the years the character has metamorphosized from the old professor type to the young energetic type - so why not a woman? "There is a distinct lack of role models of female scientists in the media and recent research shows that this contributes to the under-representation of women in the field," a UKRC representative said. "The UKRC...

He also appears at number 2 in the Favourite Actor category whilst Doctor Who was voted favourite TV Show. Has anyone been keeping a count of the number of "sexiest" awards DT has won? | He's a Survivor! (Not Gonna Give Up) Posted: 04 Dec 2008 11:39 PM CST Every time I mention actor Joseph Millson on these pages, hearts suddenly go a-flutter. It seems the guy (who plays Alan Jackson on a now semi-regular basis) has a lot of admirers out there in fandom - and they're a dedicated bunch!! They're going to be pleased then by the announcement of Joseph guest starring in next Tuesday's episode of "Survivors". Originally created by Terry Nation (the man behind the Daleks, Davros and...erm... the Voords) "Survivors" tells the tale of a worldwide pandemic, and those that manage to live through it, who are then forced to start their lives over. This 21st century reimagining shows on BBC One every Tuesday evening, and stars Julie Graham (Bonekickers) and Paterson Joseph - who could quite possibly be the Eleventh Doctor. Joseph guests as character Jimmy Garland, who either seduces or is seduced by the group's leader, Julie. In a lake. As you do. This fantastic Joseph Millson website has all the details. You can also catch Joseph in an upcoming episode of insomnia-curing "Midsomer Murders". "Survivors" airs Tuesday December 9th, BBC One @ 9pm.
| Posted: 04 Dec 2008 11:06 PM CST In this week's edition of BBC Four's Screenwipe Charlie Brooker meets a host of television writers and discusses with them the writing process. One of his guests is Russell T Davies who offers his own insight into the writing world, and uses his current work on the Torchwood series 3 scripts as example - like how he'll create a new character and just plck the name Stephen out of the air and call him that; there's no wasting time trying to come up with a name that fits. Other writers interviewed on the show include the acclaimed Paul Abbott (Coronation Street, Shameless, and State of Play), Tony Jordan (Eastenders, Life on Mars, and Hustle), Jesse Armstrong & Sam Bain (Peep Show) and Graham Lineham (Father Ted, The I.T Crowd) - all of whom offer their own experiences and advice. It's a fascinating insight, and one that I'd highly recommend to anybody interested in writing as a career. It's available to watch on BBC iPlayer until next Wednesday - or you can find repeats on BBC Four over the course of the weekend. | ||

| News: 'Inside The World of Doctor Who' Event A Success Posted: 03 Dec 2008 06:35 PM CST The BBC's Doctor Who website has a story about an event presented by BAFTA at The Barbican this past weekend called "Inside The World of Doctor Who". The event was hosted by The London Children's Film Festival as an opportunity for London's children and families to get a behind the scenes look at the making of Doctor Who. There were special guests and monsters galore, including Kirsten O'Brien (not a monster I hasten to add!) who interviewed someone named Russell T. Davies, as well... |
