News: The Keys of Marinus on DVD Posted: 23 Sep 2009 09:19 AM PDT Out on DVD this week, The Keys of Marinus is a 1964 Doctor Who adventure starring William Hartnell as the Doctor with William Russell as Ian Chesterton, Jacqueline Hill as Barbara Wright and Carole Ann Ford as Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter. On a remote island of glass surrounded by a sea of acid, there is a machine that can remove evil from the minds of an entire population – the Conscience of Marinus. Posted: 23 Sep 2009 05:59 AM PDT The new Torchwood novel Risk Assessment by James Goss has been reviewed on Den of Geek, to a very favourable response... With the Victorian Torchwood assessor Agnes Havisham awake and a war sending corpses through the rift, Jack, Gwen and Ianto are forced to prevent a plague wiping out Cardiff. Here are a couple of paragraphs from a very postive review of the 13th Torchwood novel. James Goss' writing is superb, from the titles with "In which our heroes..." style subheadings, to...
Posted: 23 Sep 2009 05:16 AM PDT Another piece of great news from the recent Regenerations convention in Swansea over the weekend is the colourization of the 1971 Doctor Who classic The Mind of Evil which stars Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, Katy Manning as Jo Grant and Roger Delgado as the Master... At present it isn't known whether the whole story has been recoloured - the chromadot process is believed to have been used on episode 2 however the first installment previously existed only on black and white film, for which a...
Posted: 23 Sep 2009 04:47 AM PDT Outgoing Doctor David Tennant is to guest host the Absolute Radio breakfast show for a week in November. Tennant will join his friend and regular host Christian O'Connell, who revealed the partnership on his Twitter page: "All done deal - David Tennant will be co-hosting the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show with me for a week in November! And i mean in from 6-10am!" Tony Moorey, Absolute's programme manager, said "It's hard to think of a celebrity more loved by the British public. When you combine that with David's sense of humour and the on-air relationship he's formed with Christian O'Connell in recent interviews, it's clear that these shows will be must-listen makes. Seriously, who wouldn't give Doctor Who a show?" Absolute Radio was was previously called Virgin Radio. Jonathan Ross will be joined on his BBC Radio 2 show by John Simm on Saturday 26th September. The programme is available on FM in the United Kingdom and on the internet globally. Doctor Who has won the first British Fantasy Award for Television, announced at FantasyCon on September 19. Rob Shearman, convention guest and writer of the episode Dalek, collected the award on behalf of Russell T. Davies. Paying tribute to the achievement of Russell Davies and Julie Gardner in making the new series so successful, Shearman mentioned that when people had originally heard he was to work on a new series of Doctor Who, some had laughed at the very idea of resurrecting that tired old show. At the same awards, Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale lost out in the non-fiction category to the autobiography Basil Copper: a Life in Books, but Torchwood novelist Sarah Pinborough won the short story category for "Do You See?" The final part of the Darksmith Legacy series, The End of Time by Justin Richards, is coming out this week. To celebrate, there is an exclusive Darksmith Collected Party for fans who have collected all 10 books and completed the quests online. All players who complete the final quest will automatically be entered into a free prize draw to win tickets to this event where they can meet the authors, come face to face with some monsters and get an exclusive sneak-preview of things to come. Hugo Short Form Poll: My Incompetence Continues Posted: 23 Sep 2009 12:37 AM PDT I've just started up the poll again, because Chris Roberson mentioned Fringe, and that should have been on there too. (Torchwood will be up for Long Form this year, Being Human starts next year.) Does anyone want to suggest any more titles I should include, like that fine new series Wafer Thin Mint?
