| Happy Birthday, Elisabeth Sladen! Posted: 31 Jan 2011 10:00 AM PST Pinch, punch, it's the first of the month – and time to raise our glasses as we send out our best birthday wishes to Elisabeth Sladen, who turns 63 today! As you'll all know, the actress was first introduced as the Doctor's companion, Sarah Jane Smith, in the 1970s serial, The Time Warrior. Since then, she has made countless [...] | ||
| Posted: 31 Jan 2011 09:45 AM PST Not a day goes by without another handful of thespians joining the Whoinverse. So please put your hands together for this years entrants into Doctor Who Series 6. Up first is stand up comic Charlie Baker (IT Crowd, Never Mind the Buzzcocks) who'll be playing the flatteringly titled 'Fat Man' according to his page on Debi Allen Associates. As you'd expect, where there's a 'fat man' there's also a 'thin man' who'll be played by Dan Johnston (After You've Gone, The Bill) according to Vic Murray Talent Ltd. The duo are set to appear in mystery episode directed by Peter Hoar (Spooks, Mistresses) according to yet another agency profile on Curtis Brown Literary and Talent Agency. And rounding up the whistle-stop tour of agencies, Spotlight have listed child actors Fern Deacon (Poirot, Gulliver's Travels) and Frances Encell (Emmerdale, The Royal) as contributing voice work to the latest series. Oh, they grow up so fast. It only seemed like yesterday these Whovians were playing Shepard no#3 in their Nativity plays. Doctor Who is expected to air this Spring on BBC 1 (via GallifreyNewsBase) | ||

| Posted: 31 Jan 2011 08:42 AM PST We were minding our own business today, happily maintaining our reputation as the most comprehensive Doctor Who site on't Internet, when who should call us but agent to the stars Irving Bizarre! Irving, for those not in the know, represents just about anyone who's anyone who's dead but today he had a rare living client for us who he thought we'd be interested in interviewing, who not only appears in series 6 of Doctor Who but also has some amazingly close and 'fuzzy' chemistry with Matt Smith. "Well," we replied "Let's meet this talented newbie!" And so, in a coffee shop that rhymes with 'imposters' we sat patiently waiting wondering who exactly would walk through the door? A glamorous soap star? An old school acting legend? Danny Dyer? It was none of those, no, rather it was Matt Smith's fake beard:
After explaining to him that we don't offer cash for interviews and placating him with a Creme Brulee Latte he generously agreed to give a short interview:
It turns out that for scenes set to appear in a forthcoming episode (a glimpse of which can be viewed in the trailer) the Doctor will be incarcerated where he'll become as hairy as Jerry Garcia but unfortunately there wasn't time for Matt to grow a full beard. Matt Smiths Fake Beard also let slip that the process of removal was less than comfortable for the pair of them.
The hostility doesn't end there. When we informed the beard that Matt was off to film scenes specially scripted by Steven Moffat for the Doctor Who Experience, Matt Smiths Fake Beard went balistic:
It was at this point when, cup drained, Matt Smith's Fake Beard offered to climb on our face for £20. Naturally we declined which only seemed to enrage him further. He promptly stormed out of the coffee shop saying he'd never read Blogtor Who again. We tried to correct his mistake but he had already left. The Doctor Who Experience, which promises to put fans at the heart of the action, opens at London's Olympia Two from February 20. Tickets and further information on what goodies lie in store can be found on the exhibitions website. (via Press Association)

| Doctor Who ‘Lego' Preview Posted: 31 Jan 2011 05:50 AM PST Been wondering what those Doctor Who sort-of Legos will be like? It's your lucky day! ActiveDad has recently published a first look from a display at Toy Fair 2011! The Lego-compatible sets from Character Building present at the event included a Dalek factory complete with a few pictures of the Doctor for target practice, a smashing TARDIS interior that pledges to drain £49.99 from your pocket should you choose to legally acquire it, and a massive army of hundreds of Daleks of every colour, Cybermen, and Weeping Angels, all poised for battle. But perhaps the most exciting Lego-ish Doctor Who thing there was the (pictured) Eleven Doctors Micro-Figure Set, which features every Doctor in miniaturized, semi-Lego form in a box not too different from the acclaimed Eleven Doctors Box Set. With that and the TARDIS interior, you your kids can create a new version of Time Crash featuring much more than a mere two Doctors! For pictures of everything we just mentioned, make your way over to ActiveDad and scroll around the page in awe for a bit. This Character Building range should be out sometime in March. | ||
| Posted: 31 Jan 2011 03:04 AM PST Matt Smith's first full series as The Doctor comes to France 4 next month when the channel begins showing the 31st series of the show, starting with Le Prisonnier Zéro (The Eleventh Hour) on February 12, at 8:35 PM. Viewers in France got to see the end of the Tenth Doctor last Christmas day when France 4 showed La Prophétie de Noël. The series will continue with Épisode 2 — La Bête des bas-fonds and Épisode 3 — La Victoire des Daleks. In addition French-speaking Doctor Who fansite Beans On Toast has revealed that series 4 of Doctor Who will be released on DVD in French. The news has been confirmed by France Television Distristribution, the DVD editor in charge of the DVD releases of the first three series in France. French-speaking fans have been campaigning for a DVD release of the series with Beans on Toast launching an online petition in August 2010. Series 1, 2 and 3 are also to be re-released on DVD, and this time, the series 3 boxset will include the original English version with French subtitles. The current DVD edition only offers the French dub. For discussion on this news see the Beans On Toast Forum. | ||

| Posted: 31 Jan 2011 02:40 AM PST The Spotlight entry for actor, Simon Fisher-Becker, who played Dorium Maldavar in 5.12: The Pandorica Opens, states that he will return to the role in Episode 7 of Series 6. The entry also confirms the title as being 6.7: Demons Run, although this could still change. To add further substance to this, a recent image has surfaced online via DoctorWhoSpoilers.com, which you can see to the right. This image is copyright to Steve Joes. ** DWO do not post spoiler related information on our news pages, but as this pertains to a an episode title, we thought it newsworthy. | Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:33 AM PST The BBC has released a new picture taken from the upcoming series of Doctor Who, showing Matt Smith chained and sporting a considerable beard. The actor said It was a glued-on beard. I wouldn't be able to grow a full-on beard like that in time. They had to remove it with a substance smelling like white turps. It's also been confirmed that Smith has filmed special scenes, scripted by show runner Steven Moffat for the new interactive exhibition opening at London's Olympia next month, the Doctor Who Experience. It gives a sense of the TV show. I've filmed some scenes for the experience. It places you, the fan, at the heart of the action and become the companion, in a sense. There's a Tardis, which you can go on. The museum has all things Doctor Who. It should feature costumes from all the Doctors over the ages, and I'm sure I've got a few bits in there. | ||

| Posted: 30 Jan 2011 07:49 PM PST Former Doctor Who executive and creator of Torchwood Russell T Davies has been the subject of much media frenzy in Wales over the past few weeks after returning suntanned from the beaches of California buzzing with ideas from his office in California. (Online home for many Welsh newspaper articles) www.thisissouthwales.co.uk seem to have been on the writer's trail since he returned, and recently asked him what he thought of the news that Manic Street Preachers bassist was developing a Doctor Who script.
As far as we're aware, there is nothing official in Wire's script – he's only doing it for fun. Until he gets that phonecall, of course…
| Impending Terry Nation Biography Posted: 30 Jan 2011 06:09 PM PST
Not only did Nation write every Dalek story from their Season 1 debut, The Daleks, to Destiny of the Daleks in the late Tom Baker era; he was also behind 1964′s environment-hopping delight The Keys of Marinus, and 1975′s The Android Invasion, two eerily Dalek-less tales that will no doubt be mentioned in the book as well. The Man Who Invented the Daleks: The Strange Worlds of Terry Nation by Alwyn W. Turner will mysteriously appear on the shelves of all decent booksellers sometime in May, courtesy of publishers Aurum Press (yes, the same Aurum Press that's publishing the Lis Sladen one). RRP £20; pre-order from Amazon for £17. (via Gallifrey News Base)
