| Like David Tennant? Try David Manet! Posted: 15 Feb 2011 09:19 AM PST Ever wonder what it's like being a French voice actor dubbing over an English-speaking Doctor Who performer? If you happen to understand French, now's your chance to find out! Our wonderful Whovian friends over at Beans on Toast have recorded a 44-minute interview with Belgian voice artist David Manet, who was responsible for speaking French on top of both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant during the course of the first four reboot seasons of Doctor Who, as a part of "la fin d'une ère" (the end of an era) that France is still recovering from. Remember that? We English-speakers experienced it about 75 years ago now, or so it feels. Beans on Toast's brilliant Aurélie Demonchaux, who has been responsible for providing us our French-related news for a while now, was nice enough to translate a few highlights from the interview so we Anglophones can attempt to understand the mind of a man who's exceptionally talented at lip-syncing. Interestingly, it's apparent that unlike his be-pinstriped counterpart Tennant, who enjoyed his run but decided to put a stop to it, Manet enjoyed his run and would have liked to have kept going:
For the full selection of English excerpts, check out the Beans on Toast forum. There's also a gallery of the interview that's worth a peek. This interview followed a previous one in 2009, the transcript for which can also be found, albeit entirely in French, at the Beans on Toast website. A video reel of Manet's work is on YouTube, where scenes featuring his Ninth and Tenth Doctor work sit at the front. Pay close attention to how he pronounces "Kasterborous" in French; who knows, you may be able to impress a date with that sort of knowledge! (photo by Marie Bynens)

| Posted: 15 Feb 2011 09:03 AM PST Avast me Hearties! That scurvy naive Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, Bonekickers) has gone and poured his gizzards out on twitter- doffing his triangular hat in the direction of Steven Moffat and the Doctor Who crew of the damned. Twittering the now de-pirated Bonneville wrote a lovely message saying:
News of Bonneville's adventure on the high seas was first announced in flip flopping, political bandwagon jumper The Sun (which we never link to) – along with his confession of his life long love of the show:
Aw, bless his little Dalek socks. Bonneville will be appearing along side former 'strawberry blond' haired supermodel turned actress Lily Cole (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) as a "mysterious creature that haunts a pirate ship" and Former Eastender Lee Ross (Ashes to Ashes) as a character called Boatsswain. Footage has been posted on YouTube of Karen Gillan getting into the swing of things on board a ship anchored at Charlestown, Cornwall The episode, written by Steve Thompson (Sherlock), will be the third to air when the show makes its expected return this coming spring.

| Posted: 15 Feb 2011 01:30 AM PST Ladies and Gentlemen, step right this way for some pucker Royal Shakespeare Costumes as worn by the Doctor himself David Tennant – along with period threads that have been modelled by thespian legends Sir Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings) and Samantha Bond (GoldenEye, The Sarah Jane Adventures' Mrs Wormwood). The RSC have put 15,000 items I say, 15,000 items, I can't say fairer than that, up for sale and punters have been queuing for hours at the Company's Stratford-Upon-Avon Rehearsal Rooms. We've got your nun's habits, policeman's helmets your common or garden chain mail, crowns, rails of cloaks, capes and Egyptian headdresses for your King Tut disco. Punters have been snapping up David Tennant's used laundry. Jonathan James, an English Literature student at Lancaster University, from Redditch, Worcs, snapped up a cream jacket, as worn by the former Doctor in the 2000 production of Shakespeare's Emo classic Romeo and Juliet, for an Ayrton Senna:
Bless her cottons, this lady has snapped up a beautiful set of Grey Slippers for a McGarret – as worn by the Time Lord when he played Denmark's second favourite son (after Peter Schmeichel) Hamlet back in 2008:
When I'd finished counting up me takings the RSC had raised £55,000 from costumes that they can no longer hire or use. RSC big cheese, Alistair McArthur – the Head of Costumes – told me:
It's like me and me carrots. I get dead sentimental when they leave the stall. (via The Daily Telegraph)

| Posted: 15 Feb 2011 12:45 AM PST Every Doctor Who fan young and old will want to know about this! Tying in with the Doctor Who Experience due to open at the Kensington Olympia, two new books are launching as part of an exciting new range – and you can meet the authors themselves! The new book range contains two Doctor Who adventures for the price of one. The first contains the titles The Good, The Bad and The Alien and also System Wipe written by Oli Smith. The second novel contains the adventures Heart of Stone and Death Riders by Doctor Who legend Justin Richards. Both stories star the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond. Oli has written several Doctor Who adventures of the past few years for various formats including stories such as The Runaway Train and Nuclear Time. He's also scripted several Doctor Who games for the Nintendo Wii and Apple iPhone. Richards has been a constant Doctor Who writer since the early 1990's writing for the Virgin New Adventures and then running the BBC Eighth Doctor novel range for a number of years. He has also written several Big Finish plays as well. Justin and Oli will be appearing at Olympia 2 on Saturday 5th March 2011 with other Doctor Who experts and will be ready to be asked any questions that you have to throw at them regarding the Doctor and the dangerous Universe that he lives in but most importantly, they'll be signing copies of your books as well!
