Kopic's Doctor Who & Torchwood News

Tid-bits from Captain Jack and Martha

Posted: 17 Apr 2008 10:20 AM CDT

Ant wasn't the only one on holiday... As the Torchwood news in the US was basically the same as the UK, I found myself with little new material to report on... until now... Enjoy!
-Tremas

You know, you have to worry about lawyers sometimes... For rights reasons, the commentary track for "Last of the Time Lords" was left off of the US release of the Doctor Who Season boxed set. However, our friends at BBC America have taken are of us Yanks by offering the commentary via download:

"Doctor Who stars David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, and John Barrowman give you an insider's guide to this season's finale in our audio commentary. And you won't find this on any U.S. DVD - you can listen to it EXCLUSIVELY on BBCAMERICA.com.

During the finale on Saturday, April 19th at 7 pm et/pt, log on to BBCAMERICA.com and listen along in real-time as you watch. Be sure to pause during commercials! The audio file is also available for download - for free!"

While surely "Who-centric," the content does talk about Torchwood here and there... Amongst tales of how The Master was tortured with stubble burns, they also explain the technical need to "break" Capt. Jack's time watch amongst other juicy tid-bits.

The Holiday's Over...

Posted: 17 Apr 2008 01:24 AM CDT

What can I say? I needed a break. After almost two years reporting all things Torchwood on a near daily-basis, I needed to get away from the Torchwood universe for a little while. 13 episodes equates to 13 frantic weeks of non-stop reporting; breaking news, broadcast times, reviews, and anything else that might have been sprung at us during the second series' time on air. It's very demanding, and exhausting too. Honestly, it takes its toll - and I could feel my passion for this barmy old show slowly slipping away.

I've took some time off, and am back - recharged and ready to go!

The latest issue of Torchwood Magazine is out across the UK today (a full preview of it will follow either tonight, or tomorrow morning) and it breaks the news that the forthcoming Radio 4 Torchwood audio adventure will be set post-season two! So, alas, they'll be no Owen or Toshiko - but the special 45 minute story will feature Freema Agyeman, again reprising her role as Martha Jones! Apparently Martha hears about the death of Owen & Tosh, and decides the team should get away from Cardiff for a little while - and investigate strange goings on at the CERN laboratory. Bring it on!

Expect the episode sometime in either June, or July.

In other news, Richard Stokes has now left the series (along with Chris Chibnall) to work on the all new Law & Order: UK series. There's no news on who will replace him in the producer's chair just yet - but you can leave your own suggestions in the comments section below!

The Torchwood trading card game has now been launched across the UK - and you can read all about it here.

Across the pond the Paley Center for Media (formerly the Museum of Television & Radio) are holding a special event - "Click Critics: The Power of Fan Websites" - this May 19th. The invitation for readers of this very site reads:

"Click Critics: The Power of Fan Websites Monday, May 19, 2008; 6:00 to 7:30 pm TV recap/fan sites like Television Without Pity have a significant impact on television's creative community, as producers are able to instantly track fans' reactions to their programming. In addition to the entertainment these portals provide readers, they have become the ultimate focus group, making passionate, informed, unfiltered audience responses to new material a simple click away. We are gathering writers behind some of the more well-known sites to discuss the influence of fan sites on programming, the culture of actively engaged critical communities, and their position in the "legitimate" critical landscape.

Panelists include creators and contributors from Lostpedia, Ugly Is In, Galactica Sitrep, OfficeTally, Whedonesque, and Television Without Pity"

The event is being held in the New York branch, with tickets costing $10, or $8 for students. Click here for ticket details, and use the code "fans" for a special $8 ticket price.

If any fans of Torchwood.tv do attend, let us know how the night went - and if you spread the word!

Finally, if you're a fan of the Torchwood and Sarah-Jane websites over on BBCi, then check out this nifty blog to learn several secrets, courtesy of webmasters carbon studio, on how the sites were created!
