| Posted: 04 Dec 2009 01:45 PM PST The answer is: very soon. Here's some information from the wonderful people at BurnGormanOnline, care of xenutia1 and the Torch_wood Livejournal community. " Two New Projects and a Nomination For Burn Gorman We have a triple whammy for you from BurnGormanOnline, with two new projects for Burn this month and the What'sOnStage award to boot! First off, we have had word that Burn is to play the Tin Woodman in a new radio adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz. This is set to air around the 18th of December but as yet the listings have not been released, so we'll get back to you with details as soon as they are. Second is a chance to see him live, but hurry, tickets are selling fast! Burn is narrating The Southbank Centre's newest run of Peter and the Wolf, which uses camera projection technology to transmit images of a scaled-down set onto a screen over the stage. The short animated film won in its category in the 2008 Oscars, and this new production features a fresh script from poet Simon Armitage, and an introductory skit (also featuring Burn). You can read the full article or book tickets here. It is only 6 shows, running at both matinee and evenings from 28th-30th December, just perfect to cure the after-Christmas blues! Last but certainly not least, Burn is currently in the lead in his category at the What'sOnStage awards, but it's a close-run thing so let's vote like the clappers and get him a win! He has been nominated under "Best Supporting Actor In a Musical" for Oliver! John is also way ahead in the "Best Takeover In a Role" category, and for those that were lucky enough to see Oliver!, Jodie Prenger is also leading the "Best Supporting Actress in a Musical" category. " Thanks to www.burngormanonline.com for the updates. | ||
| Posted: 04 Dec 2009 01:18 PM PST Amazon are advising their customers that the UK January release of Peladon Tales is being delayed by two weeks. No information is available from 2 entertain to confirm this and it is not known what effect any delay may have on the rest of the 2010 schedule. Meanwhile TV Shows on DVD is reporting that The Next Doctor will be "upconverted" from standard definition to HD for the upcoming Blu-Ray edition of the 2009 Specials box set. This is the first time a Doctor Who episode that hasn't been produced in HD has undergone this treatment. The website also confirms the extras which will be included on the End of Time DVD/Blu-Ray release. The information is for the North American release, but is expected to be identical to the UK edition.

| Posted: 04 Dec 2009 02:38 AM PST The Big Finish team are now back from the Chicago TARDIS Doctor Who convention and just about over the jet lag... So we thought we'd take this opportunity of saying a big thank you to the organizers and the hundreds of you who made us so welcome. During the three and a bit days of the convention, we had three signing sessions and three panels. It was great to meet you all and really informative to hear your views on Big Finish. We were particularly pleased to hear how popular our podcast is. And the level of support for the character of Charley Pollard was truly breath-taking. Now that she's finally parted company with the Sixth Doctor, there were many, many calls for her to have her own series. So we are looking into that possibility right now. 'It's rather humbling to discover just how Big Finish has touched so many people's lives,' says executive producer Nick Briggs. 'I spoke to so many lovely people, but I'd particularly like to give a big shout out to Kurt, Tara and Fatenah... Not that I want to be accused of favouritism!' Here's to many great Chicago TARDISes to come... And, of course, we'll all be at the New York TARDIS convention next year. | ||

| Posted: 03 Dec 2009 11:04 PM PST The actor Richard Todd has died at the age of ninety. Richard Todd was a British film star well known for his heroic roles in such films as The Dambusters, D-Day the Sixth of June, and The Longest Day. Born in Ireland he was a war hero in his own right, being one of the first soldiers to parachute into France on D-Day in 1944. He had a long and distinguished career in British stage and film. He was Oscar nominated for the 1949 film The Hasty Heart, appearing alongside future American President Ronald Regan. He won the Golden Globe for Most Promising Newcomer for the same film. In 1957 he appeared in Yangtse Incident alongside William Hartnell. He appeared in many Disney adventure movies such as The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men, The Sword and the Rose and Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue. In 2002 he was made a Disney Legend. Todd appeared in the 1982 Fifth Doctor's third story, Kinda. Appearing with Peter Davison, Todd played Sanders, the leader of the Earth colonisation survey expedition to the jungle planet Deva Loka. Todd was made an OBE in 1993, was last seen on screen in a 2007 episode of ITV drama Heartbeat. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday at his home near Grantham in Lincolnshire. | Posted: 03 Dec 2009 06:26 PM PST ![]() The MediaGuardian.co.uk website has unveiled this year's front cover for the Christmas double edition of the BBC's Radio Times listings magazine. The Christmas special of the Radio Times is a festive tradition in the UK, eagerly awaited and usually the magazine's biggest-selling issue of the year. Usually the special features a generic Christmas scene on the front cover, but occasionally particular programmes are featured - as Doctor Who was in 2005, which was considered to be a great honour for the series. This year, the magazine has produced two alternate covers, both of a similar design. One features Father Christmas and a wind-up toy of some dancers, representing the BBC's successful Strictly Come Dancing series. The second cover features a Dalek toy in place of the dancers, highlighting Doctor Who's key role in the BBC's Christmas schedules across a range of programming. | ||
