In Love with Eleven

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 10:47 AM PDT

Steven Moffat has expressed how happy he is that viewers have accepted the new star of Doctor Who much sooner than he anticipated.

Steven MoffatMatt Smith took over from David Tennant – arguably the most popular Doctor ever – but seems to have won over viewers and fans alike in a relatively short space of time.

"I thought it'd take about four or five weeks to get to where we got after the first broadcast, but people just seem to have fallen in love with him instantly."

The Grand Moff also had plenty to say on the subject of scary episodes, noting that the first t hree are only "moderately scary" but The Time of Angels changes things somewhat.

"Episode four has the weeping angels and Alex Kingston returning," Moffat said. "I think it's one of the scariest ones we've ever done – my little boy says it's the scariest thing he's ever seen in Doctor Who."

We'll have an exclusive preview of The Time of Angels later today!

The End of Time - French translation

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 04:49 AM PDT

The Vampires of Venice

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 02:33 AM PDT

The official synopsis for episode six has been released by the BBC. The episode title seems to have had a slight tweak and it is now listed as The Vampires of Venice. Minor spoilers (although it does pretty much confirm who Amy is marrying).

Dessicated corpses, terror in the canal and a visit to the sinister House of Calvierri – the Doctor takes Amy and Rory for a romantic mini-break, as the Tardis touches down once again.

But 17th-century Venice is not as it should be. The city has been sealed to protect it from the Plague, although Rosanna Calvierri may have other plans…

The Doctor is played by Matt Smith, Amy by Karen Gillan, Rory by Arthur Darvill and Rosanna Calvierri by Helen McCrory.

If you missed it be before, check out this clip below.

The Vampires of Venice will air on Saturday 8th of May at 6.30pm (time subject to change).

Torchwood USA ‘Ongoing’

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 01:57 AM PDT

Back in January there were reports that Fox were developing a US version of Torchwood, much to the annoyance of many fans. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox have now scrapped their plans.

"BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format," said BBC Worldwide in a statement. "We are currently in discussion with several interested networks."

But before any of you get too relieved BBC Worldwide's Jane Tranter said, "It's very much ongoing and very much alive."

As for rumours of Doctor Who USA, it looks like that horrible idea at least isn't going to materialise any time soon.

"It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time," Tranter said. "There is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening."

City of the Daleks – First Impression

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 12:29 AM PDT

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games

Release of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games is still several weeks away, but the game – available for free from the BBC website from June 5th – is highly anticipated, with fans already swooning at the designation of the 4 installments as parts of the current series, effectively making it 17 episodes long!

First impressions of the game – still in the pre-release stage – are good.

With voice acting from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as the Doctor and Amy, Nick Briggs as the Daleks and TV Dalek operator Barnaby Edwards as various other characters, the overall visual design by the team at Sumo Digital in Sheffield is remarkable, offering fans the first look at Skaro!

The Daleks are naturally a huge presence and in their varied colour, new series guide, they offer a considerable threat.

City of the Daleks takes the Doctor and Amy from Earth to Skaro and beyond, offering a set of challenges from creeping past Daleks to hacking into computers with the sonic screwdriver. There are of course no guns – the Doctor is non-violent, and it is this approach which gives the game the most uniquely geneuine feeling of being connected to Doctor Who in a way Dalek Attack! and Destiny of the Doctors were unable to achieve in the 1990s.

Controlled by mouse and keyboard, Doctor Who: The Adventure Games mixes 3D third person perspective immersive landscapes (not to mention collectable artefacts) with 2D puzzles, requiring a mix of skills which the BBC hopes will unify families around the PC or Mac in much the same way they have been unified watching Doctor Who on TV.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games is also scalable depending on your PC spec, and will run on Pentium systems, although the final specs have yet to be released.

We'll have a full review of the game upon release, and we've LOADS of interview material to come between now and then!

Doctor Who Adventure Game Titile Anounced.

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 11:29 PM PDT

The Title of the first of the New Doctor Who Adventure Games for Mac or PC has been anounced as,

City of the Daleks, and will be Available as a free Download from the BBC on 5th June 2010, to that point Phil Ford the Writer had this to say.

"This is quite a series opener. We destroy London even before the credits role - so you can only begin to imagine where we travel to from there. City of the Daleks is as big-budget as you can imagine: from London we head to Kaalann, the capital city of the Daleks, one constructed from pure anger and hate. And these new Daleks don't like to be messed with, so players are about to enjoy a new interactive episode which is as heart-pulsing as anything you've seen before."
