"Not impossible, but no plans at the moment," he explained during a recent interview with Total Film. "People keep telling me they've [...] | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2011 07:46 AM PDT Doctor Who Fans Unite have rolled out the red carpet, put up some streamers and invited you to a spectacular screening of a specially-selected episode of the show for its third anniversary. The event – taking place Wednesday July 20th at 7:30 pm at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, West Lakes, San Antonio – has a distinctly comic book theme: Sandman creator Neil Gaiman's episode The Doctor's Wife currently leads the viewers choice vote and IDW Godzilla cover artist Paul Hanley will be on hand during the night selling original art and prints. Entrance to the event will be free but you will need to head to the Alamo box office to pick up a ticket to secure your spot as it will be busy. A second theatre is on standby in case of overflow. To celebrate Doctor Who Fans Unite have also remade their own glow in the dark TARDIS T-shirts which feature all eleven Doctors on the back as well as a host of commemorative TARDIS pints for sale as well. To vote on which episode you would like to see on the big screen click hit the voting site and make your mark! | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2011 07:02 AM PDT Poor Sylvester McCoy; his Doctor just can't seem to catch a break. He may have played the Doctor longer than any other actor (1987 to 1996), but that didn't stop TV quiz question setters trying to give that honour to David Tennant's Doctor (2005-2010). And it doesn't stop there for the poor Seventh Doctor. Initial excitement was dampened last year when it was revealed that the New Adventures listed for reprint this year were in fact an error and wouldn't be getting a release this year. But still, he must have been hopeful that the Eighth Doctor adventures that were getting released would mean an eventual release for his books. A chance that slipped away this week when the DWRS noted that the details for the paper copies for the reprints had been removed from retail websites, leaving only the Kindle versions. Still at least his collection of comic strips from Doctor Who Magazine have been reprinted. Volume 1, A Cold Day in Hell, has been released with Volume 2 to be released any day now. Except it isn't. Volume 1 was released back in 2009 and following the cancellation/delay of The Crimson Hand the future of Volume 2 has been left in serious doubt. But it's not all doom and gloom. The Seventh Doctor's Series 25/26 outfit was chosen to be to used in collection of Forbidden Planet exclusive shirts along with Doctors three to six as well as 10. Shirts should have been delivered in early July. No, wait it's the end of August now. Still, that's only next month. Not long to wait and it's not as if Seventh Doctor merchandise has a history of being delay or cancelled now is it……? But we shouldn't complain, we should take solace in the fact that the DVD release of Paradise Towers went through fine. Paradise Towers. Oh well. Many questions about release dates surround the 7th Doctor is his tie in material, but one stands out more than any other: When am I getting my bloody T-shirt? (Calm down Alasdair – we've heard from the publishers and the paper reprints of the classic Doctor Who books are still going ahead! – Ed) | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2011 06:31 AM PDT Want to see something really clever? A hard working Doctor Who fan has put together an alternative version of the London Underground map, which instead of containing all the traditional and famous stops that everyone is used to, contains the timelines of each individual incarnation of the Doctor and every encounter he has had with an enemy! The incredibly complex and thoroughly entertaining piece includes nearly every bit of information that a Who fan could desire and may be particularly useful for those who are new to the show but can also handle the wibbly wobbly timeline of the Doctor. Different coloured lines represent different Doctors and each "stop" is linked to a Wiki page containing a wealth of information, right at your fingertips. It is honestly, one of the most fun and interesting ways to look at the Doctor's time line if you feel inclined to have a browse. Created by Crispian Jago (is there a Litefoot counterpart somewhere?), there's also plenty of information on people and groups who have helped the intrepid Time Lord out over the decades including UNIT, River Song and even dear old Bessie! Don't forget to look out for that Yeti, either… | ||

| Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:16 AM PDT It is with deepest regret that DWO announces the passing of Classic Doctor Who Actor, Derek Crewe. Derek was perhaps best known to Doctor Who fans for his role as Synge in the 4th Doctor adventure; The Sun Makers. DWO would like to extend our sympathies to Derek's family and friends. | Whovian Creators in Pub Fiction Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:16 PM PDT While the Vworp Vworp pubcon at the Lass O'Gowrie earlier in July might have passed you by, you should not miss the Whovian element of the Pub Fiction events in the Lassfest literary programme, where Paul Magrs and Steven Gallagher will be talking this Saturday and Sunday! These sessions are intended as intimate and relaxed opportunities for people to meet some of the North's best and brightest authors. You'll be treated to readings, multi-media presentations and Q&A's in one of Manchester's cosiest pubs! At 5pm on Saturday, 23rd July, Bryan Talbot discusses his graphic novels Grandville and Grandville Mon Amour and the venerable and on-going tradition of anthropomorphic characters in illustration and comics from which they have emerged, pointing out references to this tradition and 19th century art within the Grandville books themselves. Later that day at 6.30pm, you can catch an autobiographical chat with one of Salford's most prolific writers, Warrior's Gate and Terminus scriptwriter Stephen Gallagher (pictured), as he recalls the old Piccadilly Radio/Granada days via Doctor Who to his most recent Hollywood stint, illustrated with a few clips! Finally on Sunday, July 24th the prolific fantasy author Paul Magrs will be one half of an audience and reading with George Mann, sci-fi author and publisher. As well as many Big Finish works, BBC Books and creating Iris Wildthymne, Magrs has written two Doctor Who audios with Tom Baker – the first time he had reprised the role for 30 years and is currently recording a new audio series with Tom on behalf of the BBC. | Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:00 PM PDT We at Kasterborous are always partial to a concept mash-up – the more divergent the entity being pulled into the Whoinverse the better – so when IDW comic book artist Michael Dialynas squashed together the dark fairytales of the Eleventh Doctor and Antoine de Saint Exupéry's beautiful 1943 children's classic The Little Prince in this fantastic sketch – well it would be rude not to show it! Taking his inspiration from French aviator Exupéry's novella, where the narrator finds himself (like Exupéry's own experiences) stranded when his plane crashes into the Sahara Desert. While contemplating his predicament the narrator is approached by the Little Prince – a serious blond haired boy – who asks the Narrator to draw him a sheep. As the pair share their tales of life on Asteroid B-612, a mysterious rose and suffer through the narrow minded world of adults the pair finally build up the courage to search for a lifesaving supply of water. Taking his cue from this pose-Dialynes perfectly captures the wide-eyed enthusiasm of the Doctor and his world. Dialynes doesn't just limit himself to the Whoniverse. Though his blog The Wooden Crown he's brought together the worlds of Marvel, Game of Thrones and The Princess Bride all in the name of 'what if?' | ||
| Posted: 18 Jul 2011 06:57 PM PDT Starz have also reported that the total audience for The New World reached 2.7m viewers once the additional weekday airings and the Live+3 DVR data have been included. |
