| Posted: 07 Aug 2011 11:41 AM PDT Tennant has also been signed up for a new CBeebies animation series, Tree Fu Tom. He will provide the voice of the lead character Twigs while the voice Tom will be provided by former companion Sophie Aldred, who played Ace alongside the Seventh Doctor in the 1980's. The series is aimed at 4-6-year-olds, and set in an enchanted world where movement creates magic. Colin Baker is currently touring the UK playing the role of Count Fosco in the national tour of Wilkie Collins' classic ghost story The Woman in White. This tour runs into the Autumn and includes stops in Swansea, Guildford, Buxton, Worthing, Derby, Basingstoke, Crewe, Malvern and Taunton. | Posted: 07 Aug 2011 08:30 AM PDT On the eve of the second instalment of Doctor Who: Series 6 Character Options has released the second wave of its 2011 action gigures for pre-order. Coming 8th August fans can get their hands on the bearded Doctor, complete with straight jacket, from Day of the Moon (which will probably be lacking in at least two areas of articulation!), Idris the personification of the Doctors greatest companion, the TARDIS, and Uncle, the patchwork humanoid who lured the Doctor to House with false promises of a belated Time Lord reunion, both of which appeared in Neil Gaiman's masterful The Doctor's Wife. Each figure is available from Forbidden Planet and can be pre-ordered for just £8.99! | ||

| Posted: 07 Aug 2011 08:05 AM PDT Karen Gillan has recently stated that the reason that the current incarnation of Doctor Who works so well is because of the chemistry between her and Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. Chatting to Metro, the actress went on to state that the dynamic between the two of them was "the heart of the show" and very important to giving it the success that keeps audiences tuning in. In many ways, Karen is completely correct, it is very important for the lead actors in any show and especially Doctor Who to create an enjoyable back and forth for viewers to get drawn into. There have certainly been some TARDIS crew members that have not bonded entirely well with the Doctor, leading to viewers having a difficult time enjoying the Doctor Who experience. Of note (and this has nothing to do with the actors at all) the Sixth Doctor and Peri had a patchy relationship filled with arguments and cynical comments thrown back and forth at each other leading to a fall in ratings. But chemistry is not everything, after all the show is so much more than just the actors who bring it to life so amazingly well. The writers, producers and remaining members of the cast and crew put so much effort every year to make sure that audiences get the best that Doctor Who can offer. However, Matt and Karen have a wonderful friendship that does indeed sparkle both in front and behind the camera. Long may it continue! | ||
| Posted: 07 Aug 2011 07:27 AM PDT With the premiere and series finale screenings now long established at Manchester'sLass O'Gowrie pub, landlord Gareth Kavanagh hs decided to extend the screenings to include each and every episode for remainder of Doctor Who Series 6 from Saturday, 27th August through to the finale. So if you fancy watching Who in a room full of like minded souls, the Lass is for you! Even better, as luck would have it August 27th is also the date of the regular Who meet-up (Vworp) at the Lass O'Gowrie, so there is every chance of a good crowd, especially with the Pride festival in town that weekend. For the uninitiated, The Lass O'Gowrieis an award-winning traditional pub down the side of the BBC, just off Oxford Road. With a great atmosphere, the pub will be playing the episodes on a digital big screen with 5.1 sound in their Salmon Room. You can find more info about the venue at www.thelass.co.uk or over at their bustling Facebook group (search for the Lass O'Gowrie). Gareth tells me that he just might (no promises mind, printers permitting) have copies of Vworp Vworp #2 with to hand on the night which would make it the unofficial launch for this most-anticipated Doctor Who fanzine | ||
