News: Matt Smith Online

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 06:12 PM PDT

If you weren't already aware, Eleventh Doctor Who actor Matt Smith has a dedicated official site - www.mattsmithofficial.com - and while it is still "under construction" there is an open discussion forum. There's also a bit of information available such as contact details and Matt's biography. We're slightly puzzled though as to how long this has taken - with a casting announcement on New Year's Day, Mr Smith's "people" have had almost 11 months to sort out a web presence...

Ghosts of Yesteryear

First off, before we enter SPOILER terrority, can I just remind you that a certain Miss Yasmin Paige was on our television screens this fine October evening? She was part of ITV's Murderland, starring alongside Hagrid himself Robbie Coltrane (or Fitz Cracker, if you'd much prefer...) in a murder mystery told through three very different perspectives...

YASMIN PAIGE AS THE MUCH MISSED (?) MARIA JACKSON

You can catch episode one of the three part mini-series on ITVPlayer now.

The 18 year old has also recently been cast in a feature film! It's called Submarine, and it's the directorial debut of Richard Ayoade. According to IMDB it's:

A comedy which follows a 15-year-old boy with two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to stop his mother from leaving his father for her dance teacher.

No idea when/if this'll hit cinema screens.

Now, onto the SPOILERS!

Beware, they are pretty heavy SPOILERS - regarding plot elements from this week's The Mad Woman in the Attic. Sure you want to read on...?

Well, who am I to stop you, hmmm?

Highlight to read:

During part two of The Mad Woman In The Attic, we get treated to a flashback featuring the Third and Fourth Doctors as played by Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker respectively. The clips shown include The Time Warrior, Planet of the Spiders, The Hand of Fear and The Five Doctors. Not only that but we glimpse Sarah Jane's future too with the ominous phrase, "He is returning, he is coming back" and a clip of the TARDIS materialising in the Bannerman Road attic. Towards the end of the episode there's another flash forward (not the 'Next Time' I hasten to add) where we witness The Tenth Doctor, as played by David Tennant. Not enough nostalgia for you? Well, that little robot mutt K9 is back too - this time for good (so they say). And looks like Mr Smith is none too pleased...

This comes from the superb Den of Geek! site - go there now and check all the latest happenings within the worlds of television and film.

Remember!! The Mad Woman in the Attic airs Thursday and Friday on BBC One, from 4:35pm.

Top sci fi magazine SFX is currently running a poll for their annual awards - and there's plenty of Doctor Who related entries to vote on! Vote for Doctor Who in the Best TV Show category, for Planet of the Dead or The Next Doctor in the Best TV Episode section - or even Torchwood: Children of Earth Day 5. Dervla Kirwan (Miss Hartigan in The Next Doctor) and Torchwood's Eve Myles are nominated for your votes in the Best Actress category (although I went for Ashes to Ashes' Keeley Hawes)...

News: Archibishop Magister?

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 12:07 AM PDT

Telegraph blogger James Delingpole has likened the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams to Doctor Who's own Reverend Magister - the evil Time Lord himself, the Master. Clarified by his colleague Damien Thompson, it seems that the press are launching the opening salvo against the man in charge of the Anglican church and doing so by comparing Dr Williams to the Master. It was in 1971's The Daemons in which the Master disguised himself as the Reverend Magister in the south west town of...

YouTubing It #5

Another great sub-genre of Doctor Who on YouTube is taking stories from the classic series and making "Next Time" teasers in the style of the new series. The best of these are City of Death and The Web Planet, but they have embedding switched off so you'll just have to visit them.

Here's one for The Caves of Androzani…

Doctor Who Magazine 414

This months DWM features an exclusive behind-the-scenes report on The Sarah Jane Adventures, and talks to the cast and crew of The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, which guest stars David Tennant as the Doctor. Elisabeth Sladen says "Some of it's quite sad. I can't read these scripts too often because they absolutely make me cry. If I do that too much, there won't be any emotion left for on set. Gareth Roberts has written something beautiful"

Also in the issue:
  • Previews of the forthcoming animated adventure, Dreamland, and interviews with the cast, including David Tennant, Georgia Moffett and David Warner
  • She's travelled in the TARDIS for nearly ten years with both the Eighth and Sixth Doctors. And she was the first of the Doctor's companions to fall in love with the Time Lord! Charley Pollard, aka actress India Fisher, talks DWM about her adventures.
  • The Eighth Doctor is famous for snogging Doctor Grace Holloway in the 1996 TV Movie. But what else should we remember him for? Find out as the Watcher presents the latest guide to the Doctor
  • Doctor Who's executive producer Russell T Davies shares reminiscences of being a fan in his youth and discovers that, for some, the memory cheats
  • Neil Harris looks at the stories that made up the bottom 10 places of DWM's Mighty 200 poll and discovers that, despite popular opinion, there's a great deal to enjoy in these adventures
  • DWM talks to Sarah Jane's husband-to-be, played by actor Nigel Havers, just before the wedding, with a few interruptions from David Tennant!
  • The Time Team gather together to watch Survival, the last full adventure for the Seventh Doctor.
  • The Fact of Fiction travels back to the earliest days of Doctor Who and finds the four time travellers trapped aboard the TARDIS and fighting among themselves. Could they be on the edge of destruction as they hurtle beyond the sun? Find out as Inside the Spaceship is put under the microscope
  • The Doctor and Majenta discover that the London Underground holds a terrible secret. A new comic strip begins, Ghosts of the Northern Line, written by Dan McDaid with art by Paul Grist.
