| Posted: 27 Aug 2010 02:56 PM PDT Karen Gillan will join Steven Moffat at the Edinburgh International Television Festival for a question and answer session about Doctor Who. The Masterclass is being held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Sunday morning. Moffat will also appear on the panel for special Question Time on Saturday night alongside Diane Abbott MP and Mariella Frostrup. David Tennnat has been listed as one of the top ten Hamlet's by The Guardian newspaper. Tennant, who played the role in Stratford and London in 2008, was described as sardonic and volatile, a Hamlet so graceful that at times he seemed almost to dance across the stage. BBC4 is to dramatise Douglas Adams's 1987 novel about anti-hero Dirk Gently. Adams was Script Editor for Season 17 of Doctor Who and wrote The Pirate Planet and co-wrote City of Death. He was writing a third Dirk Gently book, The Salmon of Doubt, at the time of his death in 2001. The books have formed the basis of a play and a BBC Radio 4 series but have never before been filmed for Television. Andrew Smith has been talking to the Rutherglen Reformer about his return to Doctor Who and his new script for Big Finish Productions. Smith wrote the 1980 Fourth Doctor story Full Circle. The new story is called The Invasion of E-Space and once more features Lalla Ward as Romana. Smith told the Reformer: "I wrote the first draft, sent it off, and I didn't hear back for a little while. I was getting really paranoid as I had no idea how it had gone down, but I was quite relieved when they got back to me and said they loved it." | ||
| International iPlayer on the way Posted: 27 Aug 2010 02:39 PM PDT BBC Director General Mark Thompson has told the Edinburgh International Television Festival the corporation is aiming to launch an international commercial version of the BBC iPlayer within a year. The plans, which are subject to approval by the BBC Trust, will hopefully allow viewers around the world to watch BBC programmes, including Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, soon after their UK transmission. There are also plans to develop a way for UK licence fee payers and British servicemen and women around the world to gain access to a version of the UK public service iPlayer. The BBC Chief used the MacTaggart Lecture to defend the BBC following criticism from many of its competitors, such as James Murdoch who gave last years key note speech to the festival. The speech has already been attacked by The Telegraph who singled out the free downloads of Doctor Who computer games, such as today's release of The Doctor Who Adventures, as something the BBC has no business doing. | ||
| Doctor Who Prom Extra Material Posted: 27 Aug 2010 01:31 PM PDT The BBC has announced that extra content showing behind the scenes material from the Doctor Who Prom will be available to UK viewers via the Red Button service.Described as a VIP access-all-areas view of the Prom which took place last month, the material will include interviews with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and follow their preparations as they get ready to take the stage. The service will begin on Monday 6th September, the same day the Prom is broadcast on BBC Three. Red Button viewers will also be able to see music cut from the main BBC Three transmission as well as a look at the audience through the eyes of some of the Doctor Who aliens. | ||

| Posted: 27 Aug 2010 07:33 AM PDT As a nice bit of cross media, the official BBC Doctor Who website has released a prologue to their newest Adventure Game, TARDIS. Wish You Were Here is a short story written by James Moran (who wrote The Fires of Pompeii and various Torchwood episodes) and is set before the events of TARDIS. For those of you not in the know, TARDIS is the third in the series of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games and will let you the player take control of the ship itself whilst battling a new monster known only as The Entity… It promises to be a non stop action adventure romp for the Doctor and Amy (and you!) but if you would like to find out what the tie travellers were up to before this adventure started, then Wish You Were Here is the perfect place to start. It follows on from the widely popular City of the Daleks and Blood of the Cybermen. If you visit www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho you'll be able to navigate yourself to the Adventure Games homepage where you will be able not only download Wish You Were Here but also wallpapers, jigsaws, screensavers and information on TARDIS. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games – TARDIS, is available for download in the UK now! Don't forget to check out our other coverage of the game, including a trailer! | ||

| Revenge of the Cybermen Figures! Posted: 27 Aug 2010 01:39 AM PDT Cybermen! Or to be more precise, a Cyberleader, two Cybermen and a Cybermat! These are latest additions to the Doctor Who range of action figures, and come together in a great collectors pack from Forbidden Planet, available from November 17th.
The Tom Baker era of Doctor Who is certainly shaping up to provide a wealth of classic figures, from these Cybermen to a Destiny of the Daleks collection the Mummie servicer robots from Pyramid of Mars and Magnus Greel from Talons of Weng Chiang to name but a few. Of course this isn't really a surpise given that these are considered some of the show's greatest ever stories. This latest collection of figures is pretty cool though, and will look great lined up alongside the more recent Lumic-design Cybermen, not to mention the frightening variants from The Tenth Planet. Personally, I like the added touch of the Cybermat, recently seen in the Blood of the Cybermen videogame from the BBC. Available for the price of £29.99, get Christmas sorted by pre-ordering these smashing classic Cybermen figures from Forbidden Planet today!

The latest installment of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games is live on the BBC website right now – TARDIS is written by James Moran (The Fires of Pompeii, Torchwood: Children of Earth) and features the voices of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as the Doctor and Amy Pond. TARDIS follows the successful City of the Daleks and Blood of the Cybermen and puts you in control of the Doctor and Amy, as well as the TARDIS itself! Says Steven Moffat:
With a "madcap" script from James Moran that takes players on a frantic, funny and surprising adventure and music from Murray Gold, this adventure is as much a part of the Doctor Who legend as the TV series. Available right now for PC and (Intel only) Mac from the Official Doctor Who website (www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho), TARDIS is available for no extra cost to UK households and users outside the UK will be able to purchase and download it from today as well! To get you in the mood, here's a nice blow up version of the image above: And to top it all off, a nice trailer thanks to Blogtor Who:

Timothy Dalton is best known to Doctor Who fans as the reincarnated Time Lord founder, god and President Rassilon in David Tennant's swansong The End of Time, but known to movie fans as a former James Bond (The Living Daylights, 1987 and Licence to Kill, 1989) not to mention playing Prince Barin in the amazingly iconic comic book movie Flash Gordon back in 1980. He's also appeared in The Rocketeer and Looney Tunes Back in Action, not to mention the Simon Pegg movie Hot Fuzz. Dalton will appear in several episodes of Chuck as a "mysterious stranger" who it seems has a history with Chuck's mother (played by Linda Hamilton of Terminator/Terminator 2).
As well as playing the Master opposite Paul McGann's superb Eighth Doctor, Roberts has appeared in a string of successful TV series and movies, such as Heroes, Batman movie The Dark Knight, new heroflick The Expendables, and a lot of not so successful "B" features, running back to and beyond martial arts classic Best of the Best. It's certainly an interesting lineup of guest actors – I wonder who else will be cast?

| Home is Where The Smugglers Was Shot Posted: 26 Aug 2010 06:00 PM PDT 'Slowing down…easing up…in freefall' While the property market maybe shrugging its shoulders at the economy like a thick kid looking at a GCSE paper its reassuring to know that Doctor Who induced impulse purchases are still out there contributing to the all round confusion that is our future.
This First Doctor tale saw our favourite time traveller (not including Michael French from Crime Traveller) materialising in 17th century Cornwall where pirates led by Captain Samuel Pike (Michael Godfrey)and his henchman Cherub (George A Cooper) are searching for hidden treasure, while a smuggling ring masterminded by the local Squire (Paul Whitsun-Jones) is trying to off-load contraband. Despite falling into the catagory of the early historical ones rather than more heavily science ficition tales of the later serials, the episode is a great little romp through romantic fictions biggest cliches.
The three bedroom property is situated in St Levan, eight miles from Penzance, Porthcurno, and is close to Nanjizal, Church Cove, Newlyn and Trethewey, the locations used for filming. Even the barns across the road from the house were used at one stage, while more can be seen on the 8mm footage of the location on the Lost in Time DVD. Click here for the BBC's photo novel of The Smugglers. For a virtual Through the Keyhole tour of the property and for more details click here Not that were suggesting you buy a new home for its tenuous link to Doctor Who but if you did you would have a special place in geeky nerddom and lets face it, its worth more than money, love, respect from your peers and a satisfying career…right…isn't it…I'm so alone… the barns across the road from us were one of the locations. There is 8mm footage of the location on the Lost in Time DVD and of course the telesnaps. (With thanks to Simon)

| Posted: 26 Aug 2010 07:00 AM PDT A Cyberman (CyberMackem, shurely? – Ed) was spotted getting onside for England's 2018 World Cup bid in Sunderland this week – the metallic foe of the Doctor was dressed in a Sunderland shirt by staff at the Doctor Who Exhibition at the Centre for Life in Newcastle.
The gesture was part of Wear Your Shirt To Work Day (a football shirt that is, otherwise it's as empty a jesture as Use Your Pens Correctly Day was) giving fans a chance to show off their support (as if they needed to be asked) for England's bid. As the bid drew to a close today Fifa team leader Harold Mayne-Nicholls said:
Though broadly complimentary about the transport, stadiums, security and the passion for football question marks were raised about accommodation as the bidding team are yet to organise the 60,000 hotel rooms necessary for the entourage of teams, fans, WAG's and Garth Crooks before the end of September deadline. Before visiting our merry shores, the delegation travelled to rival bidders Russia, where doubts were raised about whether or not they would be ready as 14 of the 16 stadiums potentially playing host to the tournament are yet to be built. The final verdict of who will host the World Cup in either 2018 or 2022 will be decided on 2nd December. (via Sunderland Echo)

Here we go – the big one! This week's Art For Hearts auction piece is particularly important to us here in the constellation of Kasterborous because it was created by our very own designer, Anthony Dry! This A4 print on photographic paper of the Doctor, Donna, Davros, and the Daleks (from The Stolen Earth/Journey's End), which first appeared in the Doctor Who Series Four DVD Box Set, can be YOURS if you're the highest bidder on this eBay page! Plus, the fact that it originated from and is autographed by a founding member of your favourite Doctor Who website should up its level of awesomeness by a few billion points! At the time of writing this, the highest bid is £31.00, making it both priceless AND affordable! But don't wait! After Monday, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a creation of simply the best Whovian artist in the business will be forever lost! Sorry I sound like a bit of a television advert this week, but it really is impossible for me to not get excited about this one! And I'm sure I can say the same for everyone else behind the scenes here at the ol' K. If you haven't been following us week after week, I should tell you that Art For Hearts is for a good cause: auction organiser Ian Stacey is donating all proceeds from this entire Doctor Who art auction to the research of organ transplants!
