| Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried -- Released! Posted: 31 Aug 2010 11:07 AM PDT Finally it's here! Our very first fully animated adventure has been released and... It's completely free! Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried is a 10-minute animated adventure starring Lisa Bowerman as the 27th Century Archaeologist Bernice Summerfield, and Miles Richardson as Irving Braxiatel. While waiting to see what Braxiatel is is planning, Benny goes back to her roots and investigates a previously undiscovered civilisation. It's not long, however, before she's being pursued through the ruins by an implacable foe. "The Bernice Summerfield range has always been a testing ground for new writers, actors and ideas," says Director and Animator, Alex Mallinson. "Indeed, the range was Big Finish's first venture back in 1999. So, to celebrate Bernice's eleventh season, we've pushed the boundaries again and produced Big Finish's first animated feature. It's a ten-minute adventure which acts as an introduction not only to the first play of season 11, Resurrecting the Past, but also to the character herself and the range in general.". For me personally, this started as an exercise to see if it was possible to create a short film. Big Finish is always about doing a lot with limited resources. Everyone worked very hard to make this a success and I'm hugely grateful for their help and encouragement. The real test now though, is whether it's as much fun to watch as it has been to create." To go with the animation, there we are giving away five high resolution desktop images and a high-quality version of the the story that can be downloaded and burnt to DVD, all this at http://bernicesummerfield.co.uk. Dead and Buried leads directly into 11.01 Bernice Summerfield: Resurrecting the Past. Season 11 is available for pre-order now. | ||
| Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried Posted: 31 Aug 2010 10:30 AM PDT Big Finish Productions have released Bernice Summerfield: Dead and Buried, the animated adventure which leads the next series of audio adventures, first reported here. While Bernice waits to see what Braxiatel is planning, she's getting back to her roots - investigating the site of a previously undiscovered civilization. It isn't long however, before she's being pursued through the ruins by an implacable foe. On her own, light-years from rescue, she must rely on her wits to survive and discover who wants her dead and buried. Full details on the series and download links are available in the Big Finish Website. | ||

| Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a… Posted: 31 Aug 2010 08:00 AM PDT What are you expecting from the Doctor Who Christmas Special this year? Daleks? Cybermen? Yeti? While these are all monsters you would associate with your favourite TV show, The Daily Star has rumoured that the Doctor will be taking on a (drum roll please) Great White Shark. That flies. Still here? Good. No, that wasn't you misreading anything, the freshest rumour for the Doctor Who 2010 special is exactly that. The Doctor will take on a flying Carcharodon Carcharias at some point in the episode. But that's still a rumour and nothing has been confirmed. According to a source for the show:
Or even be anywhere near a Christmas Special we presume. The Christmas Day episode is said to be loosely based on the Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol which you may remember Dickens reading out to an engrossed audience in 2005's The Unquiet Dead. Apparently the episode is going to be spectacular (would you expect anything less?) with Executive Producer Steven Moffat stating that he's really going all out on this particular special:
Remember faithful readers that most things you hear about the special are only rumour and not a lot has been confirmed about it as yet; take everything you hear with a pinch of salt until it's confirmed by the BBC.

Staged at the Royal Albert Hall in July of this year, the Prom was a monsters and musical extravaganza featuring presenting roles for Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvil and Matt Smith – who also donned the tweed of the Eleventh Doctor to do a bit of world saving for good measure. The concert featured the fantastic music of Murray Gold including "The Mad Man with a Box" and "This is Gallifrey/Vale Decem" and some well known classical pieces such as John Adam's "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" and Richard Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries." The exclusive content will also feature the trio as they prepare for and their thoughts on the show as well as a monsters eye view of some of the audience who came dressed in their finest bow ties to the event. | Jago and Litefoot - Series Two Posted: 31 Aug 2010 01:03 AM PDT Big Finish have released episode information for Series Two of Jago and Litefoot, the spin off series featuring two characters originally created by Robert Holmes for the fourth Doctor story, The Talons of Weng-Chiang.The five disc box set is released in January 2011 and sees the return of Christopher Benjamin as Henry Gordon Jago and Trevor Baxter as Professor Litefoot, with the ensemble cast including Lisa Bowerman as Ellie, Conrad Asquith as Sergeant Quick and David Collings as Gabriel Sanders The stories are as follows: 2.1 Litefoot and Sanders Written by Justin Richards Directed by Lisa Bowerman Featuring Chloe Howman Women are being killed on the streets of London, and the evidence points to it being the work of a vicious vampire. This should be a case for Jago and Litefoot but – to the astonishment of Jago – the esteemed investigators of infernal incidents have gone their separate ways. It's now a case for Litefoot and Sanders – but Jago isn't going to go away quietly… 2.2 The Necropolis Express Written by Mark Morris Directed by Lisa Bowerman Featuring Vernon Dobtcheff Strange things are happening in the pauper's graveyard at Charnel's End. There are hideous creatures in the undergrowth, a mysterious light emanating from the church, and something deadly beneath the ground itself. Someone from Litefoot's past has come back to haunt him, and things may never be the same again… 2.3 The Theatre of Dreams Written by Jonathan Morris Directed by Lisa Bowerman Featuring Duncan Wisbey, Jennie Stoller, Alex Mallinson "Roll up gentlemen and ladies, roll up! Welcome to Deuteronomy's Theatre De Fantasie, the show where your dreams come true!" Henry Gordon Jago believes he has made a killer booking for the New Regency Theatre. Unfortunately, he is absolutely correct… 2.4 The Ruthven Inheritance Written by Andy Lane Directed by Lisa Bowerman Featuring Duncan Wisbey and Simon Williams The pathology skills of Professor Litefoot and Dr Sacker are called upon by Lord Ruthven, who asks them to catalogue a cache of bones beneath his country estate. And so begins the endgame… as a plan long laid come to its glorious fruition. Series One was released in June.

Revenge Of The CybermenThe Doctor, Sarah and Harry have landed on the Nerva Beacon, hoping to find the TARDIS waitng for them. Instead the intrepid trio find a space station in the grip of a deadly plague that has wiped out most f its crew. But the Doctor soon comes to suspect that the 'plague' is no natural illness – and that some of his oldest and most fearsome foes are behind it… Seven years on since their appearance in The Invasion, this has the Cybermen at their stomping, domineering and hands placed firmly on their hips best. In fact they are quite butch here with the Cyberleader making a fine first appearance. Pitched just the right side of fun and traditional, Revenge Of The Cyberman highlights Tom Baker's acting skill as he's starting to hit his stride with the character and how he was gelling with the Ian Marter and Liz Sladen. Baker delivers his swipes with a straight face, no secret wink to the camera kind of comedy here. SFX wise the story is sold short by the limitations of 1975 CSO. The make up effects for the Vogans too is slightly cheap looking; a shame as they are an effective alien. If you can get around these then there's much to enjoy here. ExtrasCommentary – Actors Elisabeth Sladen and David Collings join Producer Philip Hinchcliffe for a jovial chat about this story. Now this is slightly stiff at times, not because of the quality of the information but just that Hinchcliffe is just so serious sounding. His disapproval of the music is a nice fact to learn though. The Tin Man and the Witch – A smart but all too short documentary on the creation of this story. Director Michael E. Briant, Philip Hinchliffe and Barry Letts all contribute worthy anecdotes but I just wish they'd gotten hold of Tom Baker to add his recollections to it. Location Report – A classic bit of research here with incoming Doctor Tom Baker being interviewed on location at Wookey Hole during the story's shoot. An excellent if slightly cheesy piece that shows a young Tom at his most interesting and eccentric.
