| Posted: 03 Sep 2010 09:40 AM PDT Something's amiss in the Kasterborous Towers… If you've been keeping your eyes peeled lately, you may have noticed a certain image that's been popping up everywhere.
But what does it mean? From the moment it popped up on our Twitter page, we members of the K staff have been working 'round the clock trying to figure out where it came from. Most of our investigation has led to head scratching. We feel as if we've seen it before, but we can't quite put our finger on it. We've been so busy with our case that we almost didn't notice when the picture materialized again, this time manifesting itself on an entirely different medium… Never mind the strange icon, how did this brand new Kasterborous Doctor Who News page on Facebook get here? We're quite puzzled, especially by the fact that it already seems to know everything about us. Here's the description it provided for us:
Odd though the page may seem, we figure that since it's there, we might as well use it. During the past week this strange apparition on Facebook is already proving to be a helpful tool in allowing our readers to connect with us and vice versa! Why don't you join the party right now? Log on to Facebook, find the brand new Kasterborous page, and click the "like" button. Once you'll do so, join the conversation! Facebook is an excellent way to share your thoughts about our articles and get to know our news and reviews teams on a whole new level! Already people are raving about the image we've recently uploaded featuring our own Christian Cawley and Brian Terranova befriending a brilliant blue Dalek, and there's more where that came from!

| Jane Espenson writing three Torchwood episodes Posted: 03 Sep 2010 09:08 AM PDT Jane Espenson has confirmed that she’ll be penning three episodes for Torchwood’s fourth series. The writer - whose previous credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The O.C – told Blastr that she’s honoured to be part of the writing time for The New World, explaining: “I’m thrilled to say I was invited. | Posted: 03 Sep 2010 07:23 AM PDT Okay, that title was merely put there to grab your attention. This Kasterborous writer will in no way endorse the destruction of such a creative way to expand the Doctor Who universe, even if he's unable to experience this creativity for himself.* However, the Telegraph seems to welcome the idea with open arms. In a highly political essay recalling BBC top man Mark Thompson's MacTaggart lecture last week at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, the anonymous writer examines whether the BBC is abusing its licence-fee-driven budget to fund such projects as the BBC News website and Doctor Who: The Adventure Games.
The article further points out that the licence fee is to pay for the BBC's public services, and implies that it doesn't include The Adventure Games among them.
If Doctor Who counts as a public service at all (and don't worry, I think it does), then the act of entertainment in general must also fall into that category. The Adventure Games are at least intended to be original, innovative, and premium entertainment (whether they are or not, I wouldn't know*). Therefore, The Adventure Games must be considered a public service, and as such, an excellent use of licence fee funding! *What do they have against American Mac users, anyway?! But of Course, I'm Not From Around Here Thus, I don't even pay the licence fee. So what do you think? Should the production of The Adventure Games simply stop? Should the licence fee even exist? What's your take, Brits? Feel free to chip in if you're from somewhere else, too!

| Posted: 03 Sep 2010 04:55 AM PDT SFX has uploaded more interviews with the creative team behind Doctor Who Live.The magazine talks to Will Brenton, Director Of Doctor Who Live who talks about how the show is being put together. We're bringing a lot of action into the auditorium. Apart from all the backstage crew, we've got 16 people in the cast, a 16-piece band, three sound desks and our lighting is being done by a guy who's just come off the Stevie Wonder tour. It's a big old scale. To Ben Foster the arranger and musical director who tells of how he has arranged the music for the tour and of the importance of music to the show. It's exclusively music that has already been broadcast on the show. Which is great because many people know the themes. We're doing some of the favourites, but we're also doing some stuff from series five, because that's becoming very popular too. Especially the Eleventh Doctor theme that we did at the Prom. And to Paul Hardy-Brown one half of the illusionists engaged to bring magic, illusion and special FX to the show. It's going to be a fantastic show that's never been seen before in a theatre or an arena in the UK. Even worldwide. It's a very, very interesting show. The fans and audience will get value for money. It is going to be a great, great show. Even if you're not into Doctor Who, it's going to be spectacular. | ||

| Torchwood Series 4 Writer Speaks Posted: 03 Sep 2010 03:40 AM PDT Thank goodness for slow talking agents. It seems that Jane Espenson – a screenwriter with Buffy and BattleStar Galactica on her CV – might have missed the chance to work on Torchwood Series 4 had her agent been speaking any faster!
Meanwhile, she describes an "intense" writing process in the team assembled by creator Russell T Davies; one that has already claimed the name of at least one previously announced character.
Hmm. We wonder if it is "CIA agent Rex Matheson", a name which frankly we feel is otherwise best left for the canine world. Even so, we're pretty sure that Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) are retaining their names…

| A Rent in Time and Space (£8,500 PCM) Posted: 02 Sep 2010 06:51 PM PDT Matt Smith has a fine house, a very, very, very fine house (though no news as yet on how many cats he has in his yard.) The actor rented the £8,500 a month property in Barry Island (which is in Sweden for all you stalkers out there) after finding it on a location recce. A source said:
'Daisy' is in fact not gorgous British fashion model Daisy Lowe whom the press have linked to the Doctor Who star but an 18th century Harpsichord (are you sure about this? -Ed) that Smith takes everywhere with him. The insider added that the property is perfect for the 'loved up' couple, adding;
We at Kasterborous wish Matt and his Harpiscord the best of times in his new home. (via Digital Spy)
| Posted: 02 Sep 2010 06:44 PM PDT The weekend of 24th/25th July saw the cast of Graceless reassemble to record the final two episodes of Big Finish's original sci-fi drama featuring Abby and Zara, the artificially-created sisters with special powers last seen in the Key2Time trilogy. Ciara Janson (Abby) and Laura Doddington (Zara) were joined by Fraser James as Marek for parts one and three, The Sphere and The End. Marek is the man in the sisters' lives – a rogue they can never quite trust who could turn on them at any time. Fraser James previously featured in the Big Finish Doctor Who story Valhalla, alongside Sylvester McCoy. His extensive television credits include regular roles in the BBC dramas Babyfather and Judge John Deed, and as Blamire in the final series of Robin Hood. The remaining guest cast of Graceless will be very familiar to fans of Doctor Who and Blake's 7. In The Sphere, Colin Spaull plays Uncle Lindsay, a ruthless casino owner on the Sphere, a seductive lure for gamblers and pleasure seekers where the sisters are reunited. Spaull is well known for his Doctor Who roles, first as Lilt in 1985's Revelation of the Daleks with Colin Baker, and as Mr Crane in the new series episodes Rise of the Cybermen and The Age of Steel alongside David Tennant. Colin's many other credits include Great Expectations, The Bill and The Inbetweeners. Michael Keating is best remembered as Vila Restal, the wise-cracking thief in the iconic BBC drama Blake's 7, and he joins the cast of Graceless as Earl Kreekpolt as Abby and Zara approach The End. Kreekpolt is a dangerous space pirate who will go to any lengths to acquire the sisters and their special powers for his own needs. Michael Keating previously appeared in the Big Finish Doctor Who stories The Twilight Kingdom and Year of the Pig, and other work includes the 1970s Doctor Who story The Sunmakers with Tom Baker, Casualty and many episodes of EastEnders as Reverend Stevens. Rounding off the guest-cast for The End is Roger Watkins as Garstang, and Alex Mallinson. The guest for part two, The Fog, recorded earlier in the year, includes Patricia Brake and David Warner. Written by Simon Guerrier and directed by Lisa Bowerman, Graceless will be released in a three-disc CD boxset on 31st October, and is currently available for pre-order on CD and download. | ||

| First Look at Tennant in Fright Night in 2-D! Posted: 02 Sep 2010 08:16 AM PDT Photos have emerged of a promotional banner featuring former Tenth Doctor David Tennant in full Vegas costume as Peter Vincent in Dreamworks Fright Night remake.
Despite the promise of a 'R Rated' horror film the banner seems to have been designed by the Twilight marketing team, there's even a hint of (oh dear God no!) Van Helsing in the font. Which maybe bad news for any fans (I'm talking to both of you) of the 1985 original which saw Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride) call on the help of the late Roddy McDowell (Planet of the Apes) to help fight the neighbourhood nasty. Joining Tennant are Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) as Brewster's best friend, Evil Ed; Sandra Vergara (Nip/Tuck) as Vincent's assistant; Imogen Poots (Christopher and His Kind with Matt Smith) as a popular high school senior called Amy and Toni Collette (About a Boy) as Charlie's mom, who will obviously fall for the Vamp and then disprove of her sons meddling ways. Fright Night will be released on October 7th 2011 in 3D and glorious 2D. (via Dread Central)
| Posted: 02 Sep 2010 07:58 AM PDT Director Will Brenton has been talking to SFX and confirmed the stage show touring the UK this Autumn takes the 1973 Jon Pertwee story, The Carnival Of Monsters as its inspiration. The 3rd Doctor story featured a character created by Robert Holmes called Vorg, who owns a Miniscope, a machine that keeps miniaturised groups of creatures in versions of their natural environments. The stage show features Nigel Planer playing a brand new Doctor Who character called Vorgenson, who is able to conjure up foes of the Doctor. Brenton told the magazine When I first came aboard this project, it was a project very akin to the Prom offering. What I thought we needed to do was bring this space alive a lot more, by making it a narrative that takes place in real time, in that Arena at that moment. Which is what we've done. Monsters from the series have been appearing around the UK to promote the show. In Sheffield the city's Peace Gardens were invaded by Cybermen, while in Nottingham Clockwork Droids were spotted in the Old Market Square. Meanwhile Silurian warriors scared schoolchildren in Birmingham's Victoria Square. The Bournemouth Daily Echo has been talking to The Twins the identical twin illusionists who are acting as creative consultants on the stage show. The Doctor himself, Matt Smith, has been talking about the show to Radio One's Newsbeat. Although Smith will only appear in the show in pre recorded video inserts, the actor has said he is likely to be at the launch night. | ||

| Posted: 02 Sep 2010 01:46 AM PDT Before Robert Shearman wrote for Doctor Who – or wrote books of award-winning short stories – he was best known for his comedies for the stage. His plays trod a fine line between domestic farce and bizarre absurdism, showcasing the lives of ordinary flawed people thrown into impossible and fantastical situations. Big Finish is proud to present Caustic Comedies, a selection from his best known work: from the macabre Easy Laughter, winner of the Sunday Times Playwriting Award, to his sci fi comedy Binary Dreamers, winner of a Royal National Theatre prize and Fool to Yourself, directed by Alan Ayckbourn. By turns all seven plays are odd, disturbing, heartbreaking, and very, very funny. Available in paperback, hardback – or as a special collector's edition. (This beautifully bound A4-sized edition is part of a limited run of 300 signed copies). Each play has a preface written by Rob and boasts a specially commissioned full-page illustration.
