Doctor Who: Series 6 Monsters

Posted: 22 Jan 2011 06:30 AM PST

Which monsters await the TARDIS crew in Series 6 of Doctor Who? Here's a round-up of the ones we know and a few that have been rumoured.

The Silence

When Prisoner Zero told the Doctor, "silence will fall," back in the first episode of Series 5, little did we know that the true meaning of the phrase would remain unresolved. Just who are The Silence? Reports indicate the mysterious species are set to appear in the Series 6 opener, where we will hopefully get some answers.

And let's not forget producer Piers Wenger's intriguing hint: "We'll see [The Silence] in its physical form, but that is something that is already established in many ways. It figured in the last series but we're going into the true terror of them, the horror of their species and their needs."

Oscar-Tipped Firth in Who Plea

Posted: 21 Jan 2011 10:27 PM PST

The King's Speech star Colin Firth – who most of you may recognise from the Bridget Jones movies or even the BBC One adaptation of Pride & Prejudice – has revealed that he would like a part in our favourite show!

Taking part in a Twitter interview, Firth also spoke about how he would like to play a very particular type of villain…

"I'd never rule out a part in Doctor Who or Torchwood – especially Doctor Who."

"I'd also love to play a villain like Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes."

While Moriarty is all sewn up in Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' Sherlock, there is currently an opening for a particular sinister Time Lord in Doctor Who. Perhaps some strings could be pulled for the Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-tipped, midlife crisis-avoiding respected actor to find his way into the Whoniverse in some capacity…?

Retro Toys Repackaged!

Posted: 21 Jan 2011 10:05 PM PST

For all you collectors out there, a new range of Doctor Who collectibles and toys will soon be available to buy from merchandiser Bif Bang Pow!

But these aren't your standard figurines that you can buy at the moment; it's a rich and varied tapestry that will include not only the 9-inch Denys Fisher toys from the 1970s but also bobbleheads as part of its range. Each collectible will be eight inches tall and will feature such delights as points of articulation and fabric clothing that is episode specific!

The CEO of the company had the following to say:

"Bif Bang Pow! is thrilled to bring these brand-new Doctor Who action figures, bobble heads, and collectibles to market. The Denys Fisher range of 9-inch action figures from the 1970s was never released in the United States, and has become one of the most highly sought after toy lines of the past 40 years.

"Doctor Who bobble heads have never been made for any market, so we have the opportunity to offer these highly desired products to a whole new fan-base that never had the chance to purchase them before. Personally, I've been waiting for this since 1978, so as The Doctor would say, it's about time!"

There are also plans to unveil a line of magnets, coasters and even glass wear for fans to buy. The starter range will be shown at the New York Toy fair, which takes place from February 13th to 16th so if you're in the area, go and check it out!
