| Posted: 11 Feb 2011 07:00 AM PST Here's some news that will get fans of the recent Jago and Litefoot series excited; after the success of the first two seasons, a third has been recorded and is currently in post production for a release in June 2011. If that isn't enough to get your motor running then lets add to the mix Louise Jameson who will be joining as a regular cast member… playing Leela! The savage is back on earth for a new series of adventures with her old friends! Sent by the Time Lords on a mission to investigate a corruption in time. Producer David Richardson explained:
Staring with Dead Men's Tales by Justin Richards which sees the trio encounter dead sailors that have risen from their watery graves in the River Thames, the new series follows on with The Man at the End of the Garden by Matthew Sweet in which a young girl's imaginary friend gives the trio some trouble! Swan Song by John Dorney is described as "an unusual twist on a ghost story and finally the series climaxes Chronoclasm by Andy Lane in which everything comes to a stunning climax! This is going to be a very exciting series and will no doubt please fans old and new this summer. You can preorder the wonderful five disc box set for a meagre £30.00 from www.bigfinish.com.

| Mekhi Phifer Showcases New Talent Posted: 11 Feb 2011 05:58 AM PST He's a nice guy, that Mekhi Phifer (no, I don't know how to pronounce it either). When he's not appearing in movies with the guys from the M&M adverts popular "rapper" Eminem or appearing in the next series of Torchwood, the esteemed actor is launching websites to showcase new movie-making talent, such as thirdreel.com (check it out). Thankfully he's also taken time out to chat about Torchwood: Miracle Day, in which he appears as CIA agent Rex Matheson alongside John Barrowman and Eve Myles reprising Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. So Phifer has been here in the UK shooting scenes for Torchwood series 4, and while he's clearly happy to be involve you do get the feeling he could be a little more patient…
Hmm. Let's hope he doesn't have to go and queue in the local Post Office… Seriously though, there is a lot of information about Third Reel in the interview, so make sure you read it!
| Posted: 11 Feb 2011 05:19 AM PST Casting news today directly from Auntie Beeb herself! Yet another tall hot redhead has found her way into Doctor Who; supermodel Lily Cole who will portray "a mysterious creature that haunts a pirate ship," according to the BBC's official Doctor Who website. Considering that everyone's favourite longest-running-science-fiction-show-in-the-world has a lot to do with aliens, we think it's a safe bet to predict that this "mysterious creature" is not from Earth. Naturally, as a supermodel, Cole's got about one million thirty-two pics of herself floating around on the internet, so if the accompanying photo makes you need to see more get a better sense of what she looks like, just Google her! If you're a film fanatic, you may have noticed her in St. Trinian's as Polly and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus as Valentina. Since judging by appearances is all… we ever… do here at Kasterborous, we're sure everyone will agree that Cole is a welcome addition to the cast. She'll appear in Episode 3 of Series 6/Season 32 alongside Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, and Hugh Bonneville as a pirate. Said series/season of Doctor Who should premiere within the next couple of months on BBC One. | ||

| Posted: 11 Feb 2011 03:02 AM PST After a longer than planned hiatus, DWO's very own Doctor Who Podcast, The DWO WhoCast is returning. With nearly 200 episodes under its belt since 2006, the show returns with two new hosts that will be familiar to most of our visitors. Our first host is Cameron K. McEwan, who many of you will know as the editor of fellow Doctor Who site, Blogtor Who. On joining the team, Cameron said: "After a number of years expressing my o pinions and thoughts through mere text, I'm delighted to be using my own actual voice now to help highlight the Scottish agenda in Doctor Who. I can't think of a better way to do this than through The DWO WhoCast." Joining Cameron is a veteran of The DWO WhoCast, as we welcome back Tony Gallichan. Tony is also the host of the popul ar podcast, The Flashing Blade, and on rejoining The DWO WhoCast had the following to say: "I'm surprised and delighted that I have been persuaded to return. The DWO WhoCast has become the Morcombe and Wise show of podcasts. I think that the memory cheats. Stay tuned!"
Outgoing host and creator of The DWO WhoCast, Paul Wilson had the following advice for the new hosts: "I wish you all the best and I'm sure you will entertain everyone. Just remember to give your honest opinions, and never leave a pie in the oven whilst interviewing any guests!" Outgoing co-host and DWO Editor, Sebastian J. Brook had the following words of encouragement for the boys: "Hosting The DWO WhoCast has been a tremendous joy, but the torch is being passed onto two extremely capable chums who will take the show in a whole new direction. I wish Cam and Tony all best - splendid chaps, both of you!" The DWO WhoCast returns Tonight, continuing on from the original episode numbering with Episode #178.

| Jago and Litefoot... And Leela! Posted: 10 Feb 2011 09:20 PM PST After the recent release of the acclaimed Series Two of Jago and Litefoot – which is available to order now – we are delighted to announce that Series Three is in post-production, available for pre-order and on course for a June 2011 release. Louise Jameson will be joining the regular cast as Leela, reunited with the two investigators of infernal incidents. It is the first time that Louise has worked together with fellow actors Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter since the TV story The Talons of Weng-Chiang in 1977. "Leela has been sent to Earth by the Time Lords," says producer David Richardson. "Something is corrupting time on Earth, the planet is in grave danger and Leela again teams up with Jago and Litefoot to urgently locate the source of the problem." The series begins with Dead Men's Tales by Justin Richards, in which the trio are on the trail of mysterious dead sailors that have risen from the murky waters of the Thames. Warren Brown (The Accused, Single Father) guest stars as Johnny Skipton. Episode two is The Man at the End of the Garden by Matthew Sweet, in which Jago, Litefoot and Leela are menaced by a young girl's imaginary friend. Eden Monteath (who appeared in the Eleventh Doctor's first TV adventure The Eleventh Hour) plays young Clara while Joanna Monro (Planet of the Spiders) is Eleanor Naismith. Next up is Swan Song by John Dorney, which is described as an unusual twist on a ghost story. The series concludes with Chronoclasm by Andy Lane, in which the race to save Earth history reaches its devastating climax. The cast includes Philip Bretherton as Mr Payne, while a certain Wendy Padbury plays a small role - though this is confirmed not to be as Zoe Heriot. | ||
| BBC Unveil Groundbreaking Shop! Posted: 10 Feb 2011 07:45 PM PST Retailopolis: the mountain of communication and ease of use against which all retail shops must be judged. Strewn at its base, the failed models of mere mortals with their corner shops of 15p crisps and e-coli. At its peak, the groundbreaking Doctor Who Experience, whose exclusive Wi-Fi service will provide visitors to the Experience with redeemable coupons, exclusive facts and figures about the exhibitions on show, and yes, even subtitles for the deaf. Truly, we are at the peak of our shopping evolution. And while we meander in shopping Valhalla, the first shop devoted solely to Doctor Who, we can browse at the merchandise exclusively available at the Experience and wonder at the designing marvel that will be the circular tills- laid out to resemble the TARDIS' console. After being guided to the celestial shop, heads still filled with the exhilarating walk-through adventure, where we will have trodden on board a full recreation of the Eleventh Doctor's TARDIS, and seen his entire life encased in glass in an 'out of this world' exhibition featuring iconic Doctor Who props and costumes from its 47 year history, we will have no choice but to spend, spend, spend. We have a new God, and it is called BrandNew Corporation. One of its conduits, Alex Johns, Managing Director, spoke and he doth said:
Its is spoken, our new retail God is both humble and giving. Our tangible rewards, far more worthy than memories or togetherness, more sweeter than the coffee from the cafe and more comforting now we know just how groundbreaking the shop is. The Doctor Who Experience opens its doors at the London Olympia 2 from the 20th February. (via BBC Press Office)

| iSay! iPlayer coming to the iPad? Posted: 10 Feb 2011 06:28 PM PST The BBC have moved quick to address speculation and reaffirm it's position on making BBC Online more accessible to mobile devices. Daniel Danker, General Manager of Future Media & Technology, commented on the BBC Internet Blog that auntie beeb would be offering the iPlayer app for both Android and iPad OS by as early as next week- meaning you'll soon be able to view Doctor Who from anywhere you happen to be in/around/or on. The main features of this new app are:
Unfortunately not all Android users will be able to download the app – only those with Android version 2.2 and Adobe Flash 10.1 Player installed will be able to enjoy this service. Growth in people watching programmes like Doctor Who on mobile devices via the iPlayer has increased massively – with mobile use of BBC iPlayer outpacing PC growth by more than 2-to-1, and BBC iPlayer on tablets outpacing PCs by more than 20-to-1. Which begs the question: Given the furore over the ratings last series, how will replayed mobile device access factor in either an increase or a decrease in the perceived (how many people still watch the show as it airs?) traditional audience figures for Doctor Who? Its an argument that's not going away any time soon… (via BBC Internet Blog)

| The Ghost of Conventions Future Posted: 10 Feb 2011 05:28 PM PST I'm not keen on the past. I love the future. That's one of the reasons I signed up for this genre. SF is not a nostalgia brand. Or it shouldn't be. But that's a rant for another time. Here, I mention it only in so far as it informs what I'm about to propose. Recently, conventions have started featuring a 'Ghost of Honour', a figure who might have attended said event, but for their passing away. Various attractions at the convention are centered on that figure. It's a good idea, and I'm not here to criticise it. It's a little too specific to contribute to the nostalgia malaise of SF, it's about scholarship, and it's especially worthwhile when it honours the recently departed, like Charles N. Brown, the former Locus chief who, in life, was planning to be at the Reno Worldcon. But alongside that, how about we have something similar that looks to the future? I propose a Future Ghost of Honour. (Or Foetus of Honour.) This is an as yet unknown individual, listed as a Guest of Honour at, for example, the 2012 Worldcon in Chicago. This Guest would be someone who is born in 2012, who, in the decades after, becomes a significant SF/fantasy author. At the 2062 Worldcon, it will be decided who the 2012 Worldcon Future Ghost was. It may be obvious, or there may have to be some sort of judging event. '2062 Worldcon?!' you say. 'That's ridiculous! You're assuming that SF fandom will continue, that anyone will even be alive by -!' I'm hoping for exactly that, yes, and this concept is a sign of that hope. It's designed to help turn our genre towards the future. This hope isn't ridiculous. Humanity will continue, trivial everyday human pursuits will continue, and in a mere fifty years, a lot of today's young authors will still be around to celebrate their relatively youthful Future Ghost compatriot. I wouldn't bet against Robert Silverberg making the presentation. And if you think SF fandom is greying terribly now, that you wonder if the subculture will still be around in ten years, never mind fifty, well then, this concept is yet another demand for something to be done about that. It's a small proposal. It wouldn't cost a thing. And it's a message to the future: we've lost sight of you a little at the moment, but we know you're still there. Thanks for listening. Cheerio! | ||
