| Tennant Celebrates birth of a Daughter Posted: 31 Mar 2011 01:28 PM PDT The Daily Mail is reporting that David Tennant and Georgia Moffett are celebrating the birth of a daughter. The baby, named Olivia, is understood to have been born earlier this week. Tennant and Moffett are believed to have became engaged over Christmas, although they have never talked publicly about their relationship. A family friend confirmed the news to the Mail saying "Georgia and David could not be happier, Olivia is beautiful and their families are over the moon. They did very well in keeping everything very nearly private and keeping things under wraps. Georgia was a lot more pregnant than people thought when the news first broke." Georgia Moffett is the daughter of fifth Doctor Peter Davison, who becomes a Grandfather for the second time. | ||

| Posted: 31 Mar 2011 06:36 AM PDT Anyone listening to the first podKast (yes, with a 'K') will have heard the esteemed gentlemen of time Christian Cawley, Kasterborous over-lord and podcast renaissance man James McLean sharing their thoughts, good and bad, on Series 5 – which raised the point that a lot of adult drama was missing from that series. That the Doctor had just escaped death at the hands of the deranged Time Lords one moment and then was busy being all Doctor-y the next. It's as if the Time War never happened. Which brings us to a rumour circulating based partly on the absolutely fantastic trailer for season 6 and the Eighth Doctor's recent sartorial change. Believe it or not speculation is rife of a return for the Eighth Doctor. Now, we've all been down this road before so please reach for the salt before progressing any further because there may be many Doctor Who fans after a pinch after this. In October at a convention in New Zealand the Eighth Doctor himself Paul McGann was on hand to unveil his new costume for the Big Finish audio adventures – who had mostly relied on a picture from the 1996 TV movie. Accompanying the new look was also a BBC approved WETA Workshop model of a signature Sonic Screwdriver. Now WETA models don't come cheap so if it was just a prop for a new cover photo it seems alittle ostentatious – adding to the ulterior motives is McGann himself who as never a fan of the original 'look at me i'm an English eccentric' on the nose look of his Doctor. By itself, there's not much to go on, a costume change and a bit of digging on fans parts but with the release of the new trailer for Series 6 something more interesting has come up.
It's the "coral" desktop theme of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors (well technically its all of their TARDIS' regardless of decor). But let's back up a bit. Remember that moment in the trailer where a disembodied voice tells the Doctor he's killed many Time Lords - cool isn't it? Anyway judging by the Doctor's blinding response (I'm not going to type it up. Go on, watch the trailer again…you deserve it) the Time War could just be a central theme to the new series. And which Doctor was piloting the TARDIS at the beginning of the Time War? The Eighth Doctor. When we first met the Ninth Doctor in 2005, he seemed to still be getting to grips with his new face (and the size of his ears) in the brief moment where he peered into the mirror (although that would seemingly have been contradicted by the photographs shown to Rose by Clive which show what appears to be the Ninth Doctor at the launch of the Titanic – unless it didn't have a mirror onboard or any reflective surfaces?) Now this does depend on the Time War being a central theme; it could just as easily (and more likely) be the moment the Tenth Doctor became the Eleventh Doctor with Rory and Amy having a Back to the Future II moment. It also may offer an explanation as to why he exploded mid-regeneration destroying the interior of the TARDIS other than 'the production team fancied a change.' Again this is all speculation but feel free to expond your thoughts on the possible return of the Eighth Doctor to our screens… (via Big Shiny Robot)

| Impossible Astronaut: See it Early! Posted: 31 Mar 2011 04:09 AM PDT Know how the BBC always seems to host pre-broadcast promotional screenings of certain episodes of Doctor Who in this, the Platinum Age of the series? Hate the jealous feeling you get when you realize that those who attend these screenings get to see Who stories before you do? Don't start coveting your neighbour's wife's admission ticket just yet – this may be your chance to make other people envy you for a change! Auntie Beeb's planning a party with a screening of Doctor Who's two-episode series premiere, The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, on Monday, April 4th (that's just next week in case you forgot your pocket calendar/iPhone) in London, and they're giving away 60 tickets to 30 people (that's two per person, not 60 each, which would be more preferable) to mark the occasion! If that's not enough awesomeness for you, how about this – after the screening there will be a Q&A sesh with the cast! Not only will you get to see what looks set to be a thrill ride of an opener before everyone else does, you'll finally get to ask Karen Gillan (assuming she'll be among the cast in attendance) if she'll marry you from the audience! All that's required of you is a name, an email address, a phone number, a UK residency (aww… -me) and 16 years of life spent outside your mother's womb. You also need the ability to be in Central London by 6PM on the aforementioned date; the BBC may give you a ticket, but the travel expenses are on you. As such, if you think you won't have the means to be there on time, the BBC requests that you simply do not enter. Deadline for entries is April 1st at 4PM, which is very, very soon. For any of you unlucky non-winners that may arise from this giveaway, don't fret – you'll still get to see The Impossible Astronaut when it airs this Easter on BBC One! | ||

We've been literally poring over the captures which – as you can see below – feature Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston and Hugh Bonneville and a few other guest actors and actresses from the first half of the 2011 series. | Karen Gillan to star in BBC Four biopic Posted: 30 Mar 2011 10:15 PM PDT Karen Gillan is to play Jean Shrimpton, one of the world's first supermodels, in a new biopic commissioned for BBC Four. We'll Take Manhattan, written and directed by John McKay, explores the explosive love affair between photographer David Bailey and the sixties supermodel which developed during a wild and unpredictable 1962 Vogue photo shoot in New York. The drama brings to life the story of two young people falling in love, misbehaving, and inadvertently defining the style of the Sixties along the way. The role will be Gillan's first leading role away from the series since she joined the cast of Doctor Who. Jean Shrimpton is an icon of the Sixties and I am so excited to be playing somebody who had such a lasting impact on the fashion world. I can't wait to take on the challenge of bringing Jean and Bailey's fascinating love story to life. Sixties here I come. Claire Parker of Kudos Film and Television, says: In Jean, Bailey found someone that he and his camera fell in love with. We'll Take Manhattan captures the essence of their dynamic affair and how they unwittingly changed the face of a decade. We're delighted to have the opportunity to make another film for BBC Four and are thrilled to have Karen Gillan on board as Jean. Filming starts in May. BBC Four has also recommissioned Dirk Gently, the adaptation of the late Douglas Adams novel. The channel has ordered another three episodes of the drama based on the books by the former Doctor Who author and Script Editor, following the success of the pilot shown on the channel last December.

| Posted: 30 Mar 2011 09:40 PM PDT YES! Okay first the rules and a bit of background info: BBC Learning and Doctor Who Confidential have announced 'Script to Screen' a fantastic competition giving a team of school children aged between 9-11 (nnoooooo!) the chance to write a mini adventure staring the Eleventh Doctor himself, Matt Smith. To win teams of school children have been asked to produce an adventure across time and space within the four relative dimensions of the TARDIS. The winners will be whisked away to Cardiff where their script will be brought to life by the production team and cast- with the whole event, from script to the final piece, captured by the Confidential team. Saul Nassé, Controller of BBC Learning, said:
The script can be about anything you can imagine but it must include the Eleventh Doctor and one of four fearsome monsters from a choice of Ood, Judoon, Cyberman or Weeping Angel, as well as a brand new human character to test the wits of the Doctor. Steven Moffat, who'll be providing helpful tips and his expertise on writing memorable scripts, lent some words of wisdom to his potential replacements:
The wining entry will be chosen by Moffat and Nassé along with Executive Producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis. Full terms and conditions will be made available on bbc.co.uk/teachers on April 20th 2011. Tailored learning resources will be available on the BBC Learning website to help guide teachers and pupils through the process will be available from April 23rd 2011 and the closing date for entries Monday 13th June 2011.
| Posted: 30 Mar 2011 06:46 PM PDT It's time for a new Kasterborous podKast (we told you they would be more regular!) and this time around we've plenty to squeeze into the 50 minute format, which should suit you fine as you make the daily commute. Don't forget to hide you MP3 player in your pocket, however, lest you spill that Starbucks on it. We have an interesting mix of celebrity and standard Doctor Who chat this time around, which centers on John Barrowman's appearance in online sitcom Goodnight Burbank which we reported on several months ago. In fact in this week's Kasterborous podKast you can find out more about Goodnight Burbank and hear from its creator (and Doctor Who fan) Hayden Black, along with his Burbank colleague Laura Silverman. You'll also find out just why we used that particular typo as the title for PodKast 2-2! We had lots of fun with this one, which also features James McLean and Christian Cawley discussing the recent Doctor Who Series 6 teaser trailers (but was recorded a little too early to cover the full 60 second trailer). If you're ready to listen to the new podKast, here it is: Don't forget you can also subscribe to the RSS feed and have the Kasterborous podKast downloaded and synced to your MP3 player! |
