| Rumours You Should Disregard #1 Posted: 01 Jun 2011 10:53 AM PDT IMDB.com, the website behind such accurate Doctor Who exclusives as Norman Lovett's much lauded appearance in The Parting of the Ways, have again let accredited nobodies write the cast list that nobody checks for the grand finale of Series Six. Don't so much take this with a pinch of salt rather use the salt for a whole Tequila shot of crazy. Apparently The Grand Moff is not content with bring us past Eleventh Doctors, Future Eleventh Doctors and even Doctor Dopplegangers – no, this time he's supposedly bringing back the Fifth and Tenth Doctors for episode thirteen of 2011. Sigh… Before we unleash the Doctor Who attack dogs on them most of the other information on the site is fine and the idea does have some merit, though that was mostly used up in the fabulous Time Crash (which seems like the perfect excuse to watch it again.) It would make for a fantastic 50th Anniversary episode and given the plotless yet enjoyable lap of honour The Five Doctors was it would also be fitting but… it's not happening. Move along folks- nothing to see here. (via Big Shiny Robot) | ||

| Posted: 01 Jun 2011 04:04 AM PDT If you're not after any spoilers, my friends, and especially if you're one of those non-British people who haven't even seen The Almost People yet, you can stop reading this article… now!
Karen's Monster Spoiler If you've already checked out the prequel for A Good Man Goes to War, you may not be terribly surprised by the monster-related news that Karen Gillan here is about to tell you:
(ahem) Sorry about that – seems our TARDIS here at Kasterborous towers is malfunctioning a bit. Here, have a Babel Fish. Now you should be able to understand her…
Hmm… rather intriguing how Miss Gillan dishes these two seemingly separate teases in such close proximity to each other. Is this a hint? Is she trying to tell us that River is in fact a Judoon? Or a Cyberman? Or a hybrid Judoon-Cyberman-mega-beast? (Feel free to post this or any proper theories you may have at our recently-published River Song Speculation Zone!) We'll find out for sure when A Good Man Goes To War this Saturday at 6:40 PM on BBC One. (via DIY) | ||
| Posted: 01 Jun 2011 03:20 AM PDT It has been reported that Mark Gatiss will be appearing in episode thirteen of Doctor Who, the finale of the second half of the current series due to be broadcast later in the year. The news comes as part of an interview with one of his co-stars, interviewed by Cultbox (note: the link contains a number of possible spoilers for A Good Man Goes To War as well as episode thirteen).Gatiss was previously announced as one of the writers for this series, with his script - directed by Richard Clark (The Doctor's Wife) - originally slated as episode three before being moved into the second half as episode nine. Earlier contributions to the series include the scripts for The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot's Lantern and Victory of the Daleks, plus an appearance as Professor Lazarus in The Lazarus Experiment; he also provided the uncredited voice of "Danny Boy" in his Dalek tale. He was the narrator for the second series of the behind-the-scenes programme Doctor Who Confidential. He is one of the few people to contribute both behind and in front of the camera for Doctor Who. | Posted: 01 Jun 2011 03:10 AM PDT It's podKast (with a "K") time again, and this week James McLean, Brian Terranova and Christian Cawley mull over the events of The Almost People, in particular THAT cliffhanger and speculate on how A Good Man Goes to War might play out… In addition, we have a chat about the issue of spoilers, and just when it is safe for a fan to go online, what sites to go to, etc., in order to avoid spoilers. We wonder if a "fascist spoilerphobia" has been borne out of Steven Moffat's recent (and unrelated) dismissal of the people who shared plot spoilers with the rest of the world following the preview screenings for The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon. You don't have to enjoy the podKast using the button above, either – if you're suitably hi-tech you can also take advantage of your MP3 player and/or sync software and pick it up in iTunes or subscribe to the RSS feed and use your preferred media player to enjoy the current run of increasingly popular podcasts!. | ||

| Posted: 01 Jun 2011 02:23 AM PDT Alex Kingston (River Song) talks about her new role as the titular Luise Miller: "I'd wanted to work on stage here again, and to work with Michael (Grandage, director), for a long time. We'd discussed projects - an Ibsen, I think - but the timing has never been convenient. For me the hardest thing to negotiate is time away from my family. But this series of Doctor Who was shot during my daughter's spring break, so she could come over for that. And Luise Miller coincides pretty much with her summer holiday. So I was able to prepare myself psychologically for her going back to school, thinking: six weeks is really hard but it will be all right because she'll be with me for the summer again. If Michael had offered me this during term time I don't know if I could have accepted it. That said, this is what I do. I wanted to be an actor to perform plays, to work with other people to create something. If you think of creativity as a muscle that has to be exercised, there isn't that much opportunity to do that in television. Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) reflects on her time, post-Doctor Who: ... it's totally the end of Doctor Who for me, too. I can't imagine anything would bring me back, and they're done with Rose. They've got this great new set up with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan and it works brilliantly. So there's no way in the world it will happen again for me – well not for the foreseeable future. Both Belle and Rose have been brilliant for my career, but I don't know yet if they might become curses some day. They haven't been so far, but who knows? The problem with something like Secret Diary is that you could end up getting endless sexy scripts and a long line of sexual predator parts, which you could tire of. It's not something I want to keep doing over and over again. And I got a lot of stick about it, too. Playing a prostitute doesn't go down well with everyone, surprisingly. But the role took me into the American market, which is fantastic. Katy Manning (Jo Grant/Jones) is to appear in the film The Haunting of Harry Payne which is currently being filmed in East Anglia. The film is described as a gangster/ghost story, where an ex-London gangster starts to experience forces after killing his former gangland boss. The film also features Graham Cole, who appeared in a number of stories in the early 1980s.In the run-up to the BAFTAs, writer Mark Gatiss reflected on his workload over the last year, the importantance of BBC commissioning, and the hot-topic of ratings: I had a bit of a mad year, to be honest, and was sick of the sight of myself by Christmas, so God knows how everyone else felt. In my defence, scheduling is a curious beast and it fell out that two things I'd made the previous year (The First Men in the Moon and Worried About the Boy) ended up being shown slap-bang in the middle of my History of Horror documentary series for BBC4. On that subject I must take this opportunity to record how fantastic it is that there's still a place where a passion project (as that series most certainly was) can be so championed and encouraged. Equally, that documentaries as startling and oddly moving as The Young Ones and as rich and strange as The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan still have such a valued place.Speaking of scheduling, it's worth saying that when Sherlock was scheduled to air in the traditionally dead summer slot it seemed like very bad news. It's a measure of how differently we now watch shows that this didn't prove to be the case. Whether catching up on iPlayer, recording on our Sky boxes or downloading our favourites, overnight ratings are ceasing to have any meaning. But you mustn't get me started on ratings or I'll start singing "The King is in the Altogether" and we'll be here till Christmas. Writer David Fisher commented on how he was asked to get the physics right in his Doctor Who stories: I remember being called in once. The producer said, "We've got a major problem. We've had letters from 12-year-old boys saying the physics couldn't work. In the future, can you guarantee the physics will work"?Mr Fisher decided to get in touch with scientists working at a Cambridge astronomy centre, near where he lived, and asked if he could talk some ideas through with them. It turned out they were Doctor Who mad. The experts helped him not only come up with a way for the Creature in the Pit to threaten an entire planet with a neutron star but also a way to stop it. They said "that's perfectly simple too. Just wrap it in tin foil". Film director Kenneth Branagh recently appeared on The Late Late Show in America, where he was ostensibly there to talk about his new film, Thor, but then spent much of the interview chatting about Doctor Who, Matt Smith, and the TARDIS (with host Craig Ferguson strongly suggesting he should meet Karen Gillan!). | ||

| Posted: 31 May 2011 11:33 PM PDT Amidst all the excitement and hype for the sure-to-be-brilliant interpretation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing starring former Doctor Who duo David Tennant and Catherine Tate, one voice is bravely speaking out about why this production may not be entirely a good thing. Ian Shuttleworth of the Financial Times published a review the other day, not of the West End play starring Tennant, but the Globe Theatre version with period costumes and the likes of Eve Best (The King's Speech, Nurse Jackie) and Charles Edwards in the starring roles of Beatrice and Benedick. While Mr. Shuttleworth seemed to enjoy what he saw, it's difficult to guess what the majority of his experience watching this Globe performance was actually like, as he spends a considerable portion of his review mourning the fact that this rendition will inevitably be overshadowed by Tennant/Tate's, which opens within the week.
You're right, Mr. Shuttleworth. The "Much Ado" you saw, which was in The Globe, no less, will never be remembered. After all, how many people do you know who are clamoring to experience the show on DVD? Probably not as many as those petitioning to take home a copy of "Much A-Who." And we mean petitioning literally. There's a campaign going on at iPetitions right now requesting Tennant and Tate's performance to get the Hamlet treatment and be produced for DVD. Are you one of the mob of Tennant fans who wants yet another round disc full of mad hair and dashing good looks that you can watch frame-by-frame? Do you want to see what the buzz is all about but can't make it to the live performance? Go on, sign this form! | Barrowman Finally Loses It! (Video) Posted: 31 May 2011 10:30 PM PDT We told you some months ago about John Barrowman's appearance on the Goodnight Burbank show (with plenty of mentions during our recent podkast with show boss Hayden Black) and now, finally, we can bring you the segment, in which the Torchwood and Doctor Who star is interviewed via satellite, with some rather shocking results… A word of warning – the popular actor and presenter seriously kicks off in this clip. We're not sure how he will deal with the reaction to it Clearly Barrowman was caught off-guard by the interviewer, and perhaps he shouldn't have reacted badly to her initial demeanour, but blimey! What was he thinking? What was Barrowman thinking? Obviously, Goodnight Burbank is a spoof show – John Barrowman loves all of the shows he appears in, but isn't this clip great?
