It's the fourth day of our one-day-only sales, and we've got a treat for you: it's main range Doctor Who releases 31-40!

The stories available today are: Embrace the Darkness, The Time of the Daleks, Neverland, Spare Parts, …Ish, The Rapture, The Sandman, The Church and the Crown, Bang-Bang-A-Boom! and Jubilee.

So whether your tastes are more towards Daleks, a Eurovision pastiche, religious fervour or bangin' bass, there's something for everyone in today's stories. For today only, these stories are available at the special knockdown price of only £5, whether it be on CD or download.

Of course, if you simply have to have all ten of these fantastic early Doctor Who stories (and why wouldn't you?), we'll charge you the infinitesimally small price of £45. Go on, you know you want to.

A quick reminder that out now is the third series of Jago & Litefoot. The Victorian investigators of infernal incidents have proven massively popular in their spin-off series from classic Fourth Doctor story The Talons of Weng-Chiang, and the dream team from that tale moves one step closer to completion with the arrival of Leela! And why not pre-order series four while you're there?

All this is, of course, in order to prepare you for the imminent Big Finish Day on Saturday 11 June in Barking. Tickets are still available from Tenth Planet Events, or you can pay on the door.

Doctor Evil and the Next Finale

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 07:24 AM PDT

It's a question that many of us have pondered ever since the beginning of our tenures as Whovians:  What would the Doctor be like if he were evil?

Valeyard aside, Matt Smith recently supplied io9 with hints about what his Eleventh Doctor would be like if he turned to the dark side:

An evil version of the Doctor, that's a very good question. Well, hopefully, I may have got to play an evil version of the Doctor — for a bit, briefly — in season six somewhere ….  And how would I play him? I don't know. I'd play him like a mixture between MacBeth, Einstein and Hannibal Lecter. With a bit of Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther in there somewhere.

In other words, an evil Smith Doctor would be just like the good one, except for the MacBeth and Hannibal Lecter parts.

Wait! (We smack our own collective Kasterborous faces, Eleventh-Doctor-style.)  We missed it!  We saw it and we missed it!  What was that he said?  He may have portrayed an evil Doctor sometime during the current season?  How interesting.  Is he referring to the subtly evil arranging of his own funeral as an 1103-year-old?  Various almost-evil moments in The Almost People?  Or could he be teasing something we've yet to see?

Perhaps we'll know for sure by the end of this season in the autumn.  Perhaps not.  But what we will apparently know at that point are answers to some of the questions brought about by A Good Man Goes To War, if outgoing producer Arsene Piers Wenger, speaking from the same io9 article, is anything to go by…

[There will be] two big reveals for the price of one this year …. you've got another six episodes to sort of live through and feel the repercussions of [Good Man's] cliffhanger, before to you get to the thing that caused it at the end of the second [half].

(The following speculation contains a MAJOR SPOILER for those who haven't seen the mid-series finale yet.  If you fit that description, this is where you should stop reading.)

Hmmm… we now know that Steven Moffat's much-hyped mega-cliffhanger at the end of the most recent Doctor Who story was the reveal that River Song is in fact the direct offspring of Amy, Rory, and the Time Vortex, and apparently now we're going to see what happened that caused caused River to reveal her identity.

Because when you think about it, why did River drop in at that specific point and tell her parents who she was?  Couldn't she have waited until the next time she and the TARDIS crew met up to dish the news?  It seems like the obvious answer would be that she stopped by to give the Doctor, Amy, and Rory hope when they needed it most, but when you read the way Mr. Wenger chose his words, it sounds like there may be an alternative reason as well.

We'll start to "feel the repercussions" of the River reveal when Doctor Who returns with Let's Kill Hitler this September.

Barrowman for Series 7?

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 04:47 AM PDT

We first met him back in 2005 in The Empty Child, and ever since Captain Jack Harkness has held a place in our hearts as the immortal ex-Time Agent throughout three (soon to be four) series of Torchwood and various guest appearances in Doctor Who.

But wouldn't it be great to see the old flirt fight alongside the Eleventh Doctor?

Speaking to Zap2It, the star of Torchwood and erstwhile companion of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors revealed that he would happily return to Doctor Who – and might well do so…

"I've always said that if I'm asked to go back to 'Doctor Who,' I'll go at the drop of a hat," Barrowman tells us. "That's where Captain Jack got his beginnings. And it's already been discussed."

"It's in the cards, but who knows whether it will happen?" says Barrowman, quick to add that his character does have special ties to David Tennant's version of the Doctor. "I like Matt Smith. He brings his own quirkiness to it… When a new Doctor starts, everybody goes along for the journey because they love the show. But then you attach yourself to that Doctor. There's a whole new generation who are now attached to Matt, and rightly so…. but David Tennant is my Doctor."

So there you have it. John Barrowman might return to Doctor Who, but would he be welcomed by a new generation of fans?

Probably, as long as he doesn't start singing…

Series 7 Writer Announced

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 03:36 AM PDT

Series 7 may have been a matter of conjecture just a day ago, but while we were waiting for the BBC to give us the announcement that keeps our Whovian souls satiated, there was already a bit of good news…

John Fay (Torchwood: Children of Earth, Miracle Day) looks set to be penning an episode (in what format that episode will fit remains to be seen) according to this online CV posted on DoctorWho TV.

You may recall a few days ago we poked fun at IMDB for allowing contributors to added outrageous casting announcements to Doctor Who without excercising a little common sense.

The flipside of their fairly open contribution policy is that excited agents can jump official announcements and add details to their client's pages (either bringing forward an annoucement or just creating a 'worst kept secret' situation when it is confirmed.)

Online CV's are no different.

As well as contributing  two episodes for Torchwood Fay has also written for Primeval, Robin Hood and Coronation Street, so this will be his first contribution for the Doctor.

Whatever the word is on the seventh series filming on the Christmas special is set to begin within the next few weeks.

The Original Voice of the Daleks Dies.

The Original Voice of the Daleks Roy Skelton has passed away at the age of 79 after suffering a Stroke.

Roy Skelton (1931-2011)

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:32 AM PDT

Voice actor Roy Skelton, who contributed to dozens of Doctor Who episodes across the eras of all seven of the classic series Doctors, has died at the age of 79. BBC News reports that the actor suffered from a stroke.

Best known in Doctor Who circles for his Dalek and Cyberman voices, he was also well-known in British television for his voice work on the famous children's series Rainbow, where he famously provided the vocal characterisation of the characters George and Zippy.

Born in Manchester in 1931, Skelton's first involvement with Doctor Who came when he provided voices for the Monoids in the 1966 William Hartnell serial The Ark. He returned to the series later that year to provide voices to the first ever Cybermen in Hartnell's finale as the Doctor, The Tenth Planet. It was in 1967 that he first took on the role he became most associated with on Doctor Who, when he voiced the Daleks in Evil of the Daleks, lining up against Second Doctor Patrick Troughton. He then provided Dalek voices right through until their final classic series appearance in 1988 Remembrance of the Daleks, starring Sylvester McCoy. He also made the occasional on-screen appearance, such as briefly playing the body of the Spiridon Wester, whose voice he had provided, when the character became visible on his death in the Jon Pertwee serial Planet of the Daleks in 1973.

Skelton's ability to provide Dalek voices in different registers which he could switch between as recording was in progress enabled a variety of characterisation and conversation to be played in Dalek scenes. This ability to quickly switch between voices also served him well on Rainbow, a series he stayed with from its origins in the early 1970s through to the 1990s, where he was frequently called on to voice quick-fire conversations between his two characters of George and Zippy.

His association with two such long-lasting series fondly remembered by the British public meant that Skelton often appeared in documentaries and interviews, and he even returned to voice Zippy for a surreal guest appearance in a 2008 episode of the BBC One drama series Ashes to Ashes, set in an illusory version of the early 1980s.

Skelton's daughter Samantha told the BBC:

The most wonderful thing was if Zippy and George were having an argument between themselves, it sounded like he'd double-tracked it as they seemed to be talking over each other. It was a wonderful technique and I don't know how he did it. Although he was known for Zippy and George he was actually a fabulous actor with a great singing voice and a wonderful raconteur - he used to tell us some wonderful stories.
