| Sales Podlet 005 - 09 June 2011 Posted: 09 Jun 2011 10:49 AM PDT It's Day Five (the final day!!!) of our Big Finish Daily Sale. So here's the last podlet (a teeny-tiny podcast) in which Nick Briggs, David Richardson and Paul Spragg present the bald truth about the last day of the daily sales. Shocking indeed. Some say these podlets make irresistible listening, others say they've got better things to do with their lives and that even less than five minutes of total nonsense/informative stuff is too high a price to pay. Make your own decision. Be bold and download now. And remember, Paul Spragg has a list of today's releases. Incredible, but true! And don't forget, this week culminates in the Big Finish Day Convention on Saturday June 11th (that's tomorrow!!!). It's in Barking, near London (it's on the District Line, London Underground!) and you can find full details of the event at tenthplanetevents.co.uk. You can book a ticket, or just turn up on the day! We hope to see you there! Download Podcast Here | ||

| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 09:08 AM PDT The latest Kasterborous podKast (with a "K") is out now, with Christian Cawley, Brian A Terranova and James McLean discussing the Doctor Who Series 6 mid-season finale A Good Man Goes to War, alongside various other bits and pieces such as Torchwood: Miracle Day, Doctor Who anime by OtaKing, John Barrowman in Goodnight Burbank and much more! You can as ever listen right now or use the download link via the player below: Alternatively, subscribe to the RSS feed or pick it up in iTunes; incidentally if you do opt for iTunes, we would be ever so grateful if you could leave us some feedback, perhaps a rating or a review if you have the time! We've gone quite visual with this, our 12th podKast of the current run, and as such you may require the following links:

| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:49 AM PDT For the fifth and final day of our epic Doctor Who sale, we bring you the chance to acquire main range releases 41-50! The stories available today are: Nekromanteia, The Dark Flame, Doctor Who and The Pirates, Creatures of Beauty, Project: Lazarus, Flip-Flop, Omega, Davros, Master and Zagreus. A fine selection of stories brings the opportunity to hear Colin Baker sing, the next phase in the Project series, a curious release in which you can listen to either disc first, a closer look at three of the Doctor's finest foes and much, much more. Not to mention the intriguing and revelatory three-disc joy that is Zagreus. There's a bit more on these in today's final podlet. Every single one of these stories can be bought for £5, either as a CD (with which you'll get a free download) or just a download. But buy all ten – and why on earth wouldn't you? – and you can have the set for only £45. What are you waiting for? Also out now is our much-praised spin-off series Graceless, which takes Amy (now named Abby) and Zara from our Key 2 Time trilogy (for more information see the Judgement of Isskar page) and puts them through a fresh series of trials. Still not very old, the twins are learning about life's joys and pitfalls, but nothing has prepared them for the variety of strange things they're about to encounter. The first series is out now, and the second is available for pre-order and promises to be even more spectacular than its predecessor. Lastly, a reminder that tomorrow is the inaugural Big Finish Day at Barking Abbey School. Come along and meet the great and the good of Big Finish, and learn who the Sixth Doctor's new companion is! You can purchase tickets from Tenth Planet Events, or you can pay on the door. And if you can't make it, keep an eye out for Twitter and website updates during the day… | ||
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:12 AM PDT An exciting development to report for all fans of Whovian audio stories – The Minister of Chance is now on sale on iTunes, and more surprisingly, it's apparently the first audio drama to be sold (i.e. not free) via Apple's music sales empire. I know! Mad, right? Apple's system has never been very audio-drama-friendly, but apparently the folks at iTunes were so impressed with the download traffic of the free prologue available through the service and the quality of the production in general that they approached Clare Eden and the production team about putting the series up for sale in their store. What's more, the already-low price of £1.49 has been slashed to just £1.29 ($1.99 for all y'all Americans reading this) per episode! For those of you who may have forgotten, the character of the Minister of Chance is a Time Lord who originally appeared in Seventh Doctor webcast Death Comes to Time, portrayed by Stephen Fry. Now regenerated into Julian Wadham, the Minister is back in his own spinoff audio series that also features Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann in roles that aren't the Doctor. The series is entirely fan-funded, which means it simply won't survive if people aren't buying it. You can listen to the 9-minute prologue entitled The Pointed Hand and get a feel for the series for free on iTunes or at the Minister of Chance website, both of which have Episode One, The Broken World, and Episode Two, The Forest Shakes, available for purchase as well. | ||

| Moffat's Got No Clue (Perhaps) Posted: 09 Jun 2011 04:40 AM PDT As part of the ongoing Doctor Who Series 7 scheduling fiasco, it would appear that even the Grand Moff himself has no idea when we're actually going to see the already-commissioned episodes that follow this autumn's season finale. After word got out in Private Eye and The Guardian that the next run may be split between 2012 and 2013, showrunner Steven Moffat had this to say to SFX:
I think he might know something… But frankly, we don't. To sum up what we've gathered out of this whole drama-scheduling drama, Private Eye initially put into question whether we'd get a 2012 series of Doctor Who at all, which caused the BBC to attempt to muffle the media by sending a message through the town criers that the next fourteen episodes had indeed been ordered, but they conveniently forgot to specify when they'd been commissioned for. And it seems that, for whatever reason that may involve budget setbacks, office politics, and/or something else entirely, Auntie Beeb herself doesn't actually have so much as a rough estimate of what time of year Season 33 will appear on our screens; she's just saying, "Yeh. I'll get around to it eventually." To put things into perspective, roughly this time last year we had already been hearing about filming plans for A Christmas Carol, with Moffat hard at work on the script. What have we heard about so far this year? Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill all seeking out work elsewhere. We could go on and on about this for ages (what do you mean we have?! – Ed) but for now, let's just look forward to Let's Kill Hitler, and let The Grand Moff and team worry about everything else. | ||

| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:59 AM PDT My second title for DC's September relaunch is Stormwatch! That's Jack Hawksmoor, The Midnighter and, hey, the Martian Manhunter on the lovely cover to issue one. I can say very little else so far except that Apollo is also in the book, as are other characters, old and new, and yes, Apollo and The Midnighter remain out and proud. It's going to be a very exciting book, and, put together with Demon Knights, I think I've found a new playground I'm very happy with. More as the release date approaches, obviously. And talking of Demon Knights, I've done an interview with Newsarama about the book, and just got off the phone with poor Vaneta for another one coming up soon about Stormwatch. In other news, I'm very excited to have a story in George R.R.Martin's new Wild Cards anthology, Fort Freak, which is out very soon now. As a trailer for the book, an entire story from it, by Melinda Snodgrass, 'The Rook' is now online, and it happens to feature, in passing, my own new character for that lovingly-developed super hero universe. See if you can guess which she is. Finally, the event concerning time travel that I'm appearing at tomorrow night at the British Library has sold out, so if you have a ticket I'll see you there! Until next time, phew, an exhausted Cheerio! | ||
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 01:20 AM PDT Closing the gates after the horse has bolted seems to be the Beeb's lot in life at the moment thanks to a rather baffling strategy of not releasing any information regarding the new series then acting all surprised when journalists start to do their jobs and investigate why the corporation hasn't been more forthcoming. The Beeb valiantly stepped in far too late using the medium of Tweet's to calm the growing concern raised by Private Eye that there was the possibility that there wouldn't even be a seventh series. Thankfully all was confirmed but instead of plugging the dam with a plucky finger the Beeb have instead rammed a hydraulic drill into the hole and left us all wondering: If there are 14 episode comissioned when exactly are they going to air? Kasterborous' wish to see the return of the show to its more suited autumn time slot could have just been granted. Bleeding Cool have joined in the speculation that the 'good chunk' of episodes airing in 2012 mentioned by a "BBC Spokesperson" in their release will see the show airing seven epiosdes in the autumn of 2012 which will end around Christmas time with the remaining six to appear in 2013. However that raises a whole host of new issues to beat the Beeb around the head with. Notably, there is the potential issue raised in both Private Eye and Bleeding Cool regarding the lucrative Doctor Who Series 6 Box Set DVD. How will releasing half a box set help matters? The bigger concern is the wait. If the current series ends its run on Christmas Day then that means Who fans will be waiting until at least September before any new episodes hit our screens. Thats a long wait, one that most won't want to endure after the months and months of waiting during the year of specials leading up to David Tennant's departure as the Tenth Doctor. So despite getting closer to having Doctor Who air under wintery darkness there are still issues regarding just how the formatting and airing of those shows and any subsequent series will effect the programme in the long term. Hopefully we won't be waiting too long for an answer. | ||
