Dolores Umbridge in Doctor Who? Posted: 02 Sep 2011 07:00 AM PDT British character actress Imelda Staunton, whose long list of credits includes Harry Potter films as Dolores Unbridge, is listed in the cast of The Girl Who Waited! The adventure – which airs on September 10th at 7.15pm – focuses on Amy and Rory, and is essentially this year's "Doctor-lite" episode, featuring minimal work from Matt Smith. The BBC lists the episode thus:
Staunton appeared notably in the Harry Potter movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, as well as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. She also appeared in Nanny McPhee and Much Ado About Nothing. The actress is listed on the Radio Times website as "Voice of Interface – Imelda Staunton", indicating that she is playing a similar guest role as Michael Sheen earlier in the season who voiced House in The Doctor's Wife.

In a vast metal city they discover the survivors of a terrible nuclear war – the Daleks. Held captive in the deepest levels of the city, can the Doctor and his new companions stop the Daleks' plan to totally exterminate their mortal enemies, the peace-loving Thals? More importantly, even if they can escape from the Daleks, will Ian and Barbara ever see their home planet Earth again? Featuring the First Doctor as played by William Hartnell, and his companions Susan, Ian and Barbara. Doctor Who and The Cybermen by Gerry Davis with introduction by Gareth Roberts In 2070, the Earth's weather is controlled from a base on the moon. But when the Doctor and his friends arrive, all is not well. They discover unexplained drops of air pressure, minor problems with the weather control systems, and an outbreak of a mysterious plague. With Jamie injured, and members of the crew going missing, the Doctor realises that the moonbase is under attack. Some malevolent force is infecting the crew and sabotaging the systems as a prelude to an invasion of Earth. And the Doctor thinks he knows who is behind it: the Cybermen. Featuring the Second Doctor as played by Patrick Troughton, and his companions Polly, Ben and Jamie. Doctor Who and The Abominable Snowmen by Terrance Dicks with introduction by Stephen Baxter The Doctor has been to Det-Sen Monastery before, and expects the welcome of a life time. But the monastery is a very different place from when the Doctor last came. Fearing at attack at any moment by the legendary Yeti, the monks are prepared to defend themselves, and see the Doctor as a threat. The Doctor and his friends join forces with Travers, an English explorer out to prove the existence of the elusive abominable snowmen. But they soon discover that these Yeti are not the timid animals that Travers seeks. They are the unstoppable servants of an alien Intelligence. Featuring the Second Doctor as played by Patrick Troughton, and his companions Jamie and Victoria. (with thanks to Kuo-Yu Liang/Diamond Book Distributors)

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 02:28 AM PDT If you ever felt annoyed by David Tennant's boyish good looks, his Christmas 2009 ubiquity or his honest charm, this video should suit you down to the ground – he gets slapped, with a fish! David Tennant appeared once again this morning on the Christian O'Connell show on Absolute Radio, providing travel news bulletins for his showbiz friend, and the the result of this is that he was slapped around the chops – while dressed el mariachi style – with a sizeable piscene truncheon. So, just what on earth is "fish-slapping"? Well, we'll let John Cleese and Michael Palin demonstrate it to you… As you can see, it was quite a slap! Still, would have been nice if they could have built up to it with a bit of a dance, don't you think…?

Reprints are Finally Released! Posted: 02 Sep 2011 12:55 AM PDT "What's that?" you ask like some elderly relative visiting at Christmas: "What's here?" The reprints of Lance Parkin's BBC Books contributions, that's what. Don't tell me you've missed the almost constant coverage they've received from Ebury books and Auntie? You have? Well that might just be because there has been no constant coverage, in fact sadly there hasn't been any coverage at all for these books. The only way you might have come across them is by reading about them here, seeing them on other sites or on the Doctor Who Reprint Society. But none of that matters now. They're here. Go out and buy them. Even if you're not a Lance Parkin fan (yet) you should purchase these books to show Ebury and the BBC that we want to see more Doctor Who books. If these books don't sell well then we won't see any more Eighth Doctor Adventures and the poor Seventh Doctor certainly won't have any books reprinted. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and get them – the Doctor Who Reprint Society shop is a good starting place!
