News: Patrick Stewart to Guest?

Posted: 29 Sep 2008 11:15 AM CDT

Web-bound rumours persist this week, suggesting that David Tennant's Hamlet co-star and major name of two Hollywood franchises Patrick Stewart wants to appear in Doctor Who. This is of course nothing more than a repeat of Stewart's earlier indication that he fancies a part in the show. Now though, it seems that Stewart is interested in developing a working relationship alongside Tennant. And there is an interesting role mooted for the Jean-Luc Picard/Professor Charles Xavier actor: ...

Clyde Causing Mayhem

Posted: 29 Sep 2008 10:23 AM CDT

You might have seen advertised after today's SJA broadcasts a trailer for a new, top notch BBCi game - dedicated to The Sarah Jane Adventures - that you can now play on the series' official website. It's called "Memory Mayhem" and features specially shot scenes with Daniel Anthony reprising his series regular role of Clyde Langer.
+
The story sees Clyde trapped inside a mysterious hospital, with no form of escape - unless you, the interactive player, take part in a series of missions each week that piece together the clues that could potentially lead to Clyde being freed, by whatever it is that's holding him captive!
The game can be played here - let us now what you think!
+
Meanwhile you catch up on Sarah Jane's latest exploits via BBC I-Player, although the pesky BBC have reserved access for viewers in the UK only. Sorry rest of the world, it's BBC 1 Global SJA 0 for now! We'll have news on if/when the new series is picked up around the world when it starts to trickle through to us over the coming months.

The front cover of the BBC's Radio Times listings magazine from the week of April 30th-May 6th 2005 has been voted the greatest British magazine cover of all time, in a poll organised by the Periodical Publishers Association. News: VOTE DALEK!

Posted: 29 Sep 2008 06:55 AM CDT

BBC News has just revealed that the "VOTE DALEK!" Radio Times cover from May 2005 has just been voted BEST UK magazine cover of all time! The nationwide poll of over 10,000 voters chose this over covers of iconic images of Princess Diana and David and Victoria Beckham's wedding from illustrious magazines such as Tatler, Vogue and The Face. The Dalek cover received 25% of all the votes, beating off more than 40 competitors in this poll, organised by the Periodical Publishers...

Here We Go (Again!)

Posted: 29 Sep 2008 03:04 AM CDT

Less than 90 minutes from now, here in the UK, the second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures kicks off, as CBBC on BBC One show the first of twelve episodes (the second follows straight after on CBBC's own digital channel). The episode in question is called "The Last Sontaran" and - believe it or not! - features an old alien enemy that fans of Doctor Who will recognise. Three questions who that could be... Hmmm...

The Sontarans first appeared in the 1973 adventure "The Time Warrior", alongside Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor. That same adventure also introduced us viewers to a plunky young journalist, who's still on our screens to this day, with a huge fan following/appreciation - Sarah Jane Smith! Undercover as her own Aunt Lavina, Sarah was at UNIT HQ in an attempt to investigate a number of high profile disappearences; people kidnapped by lone Sontaran, Lynx!
Sarah Jane also encountered the Sontarans - this time with Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor - in 1975's "The Sontaran Experiment".

The warrior-like aliens would return in two further adventures during the show's 1963-89 run - with 1978's "The Invasion of Time" (alongside K9 Mark I) and 1985's "The Two Doctors". All four 'classic' era adventures are collected together on this "Bred For War" DVD boxset.

More recently, the race returned for this year's "The Sontaran Strategm"/"The Poison Sky" two parter, battling the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman). The set-up for "The Last Sontaran" appears to be a direct continuation of this story!

So, what else do we know about tonight's opening adventure? [SPOILERS] Well there's the set-up and subsequent pay off surrounding the departure of Maria Jackson. For Chrissie Jackson, there's the revelation of who Sarah Jane Smith really is... and then there's a lone Sontaran, trapped in the midst of Ealing - and out for revenge!

Let us know what you thought of the episode/s by writing a comment below - we'll use the best next week to preview the second episode ahead of its BBC One debut.

"The Last Sontaran" BBC One at 4:35pm, and 5:05pm on the CBBC Channel.

News: Tennant May Stay claims RTD

Posted: 28 Sep 2008 08:22 PM CDT

Russell T Davies has claimed that David Tennant may not leave Doctor Who. In a rather bonkers set of words put together to form a sentence, outgoing Doctor Who head honcho (I'll try not to use that phrase again, kids) Davies said: “David may never leave, he could go on for ever. I haven’t talked to him about leaving. Maybe it will never happen. Maybe he’ll be 70 and have to be taken off the set.” Or perhaps he'll leave after the five specials. Who knows -...
