See You at Gallifrey

Posted: 18 Feb 2010 07:24 AM PST

There's only one more week until Gallifrey 21, the annual premier Doctor Who convention of North America taking place in Los Angeles, CA. Once again, Doctor Who: Podshock will be there in force.

Doctor Who Podshock Meet and GreetWe are holding a Meet and Greet on the Thursday evening before the convention ("Gallifrey Eve," if you like) at the same hotel. It is at 10pm PST on the 25th of February. It is late enough to allow many of people flying in on Thursday to check into the hotel and get some dinner beforehand. The Meet and Greet is an informal (leave the tux at home) gathering where you will have a chance to come by and say hi, meet the Doctor Who: Podshock hosts, correspondents, and regular contributors to the show. Learn more about our Meet and Greet here. If you plan on meeting up with us there, please RSVP here.

If you are a Podshock Supporting Subscriber and you are going to Gallifrey 21, please let us know if you haven't done so already. In addition to the Meet and Greet, we would like to plan something special to do with supporting subscribers at Gallifrey 21. What that might be, depends on how many will be able to join us. It is because of the support of supporting subscribers we are able to bring you the show and do these events. Please if you haven't done so yet, please consider supporting us by becoming a Podshock Supporting Subscriber. It doesn't cost much and it means so much to us.

Party Animals on TVO

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 09:55 PM PST

image

If you live in Ontario and want to see Matt Smith in what was, before Doctor Who, his biggest TV role, tune into Party Animals on TVO tonight (and every Thursday night) at 9pm. (It repeats at midnight).

The first episode has all the Doctory bits that were used in clips during the Doctor Who Confidential that unveiled Smith in the role, but Smith is superb in it generally. And the drama, about the fortunes of young people working in Westminster in the political establishment is a gripping little political soap opera. (It also features the sublime Shelley Conn, who I thought should have been cast as Matt Smith’s companion) It’s well worth watching.

More Doctor Who online

Posted: 17 Feb 2010 09:20 PM PST

SeeSaw is the latest online streaming service to provide episodes of Doctor Who for viewing over the Internet. Stories currently available are The Space Museum, Tomb of the Cybermen, Planet of the Spiders, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, The Caves of Androzani, Mark of the Rani, and Survival.

SeeSaw's controller John Keeling says:
It's like having an enormous buffet... you can either just snack on it and catch up on what you've missed or gorge yourself with an entire season - it's absolutely at your fingertips and your control.

This is the tip of the iceberg, it feels to me like it did 20 years ago when I was at Sky and multi-channel TV was just beginning and you saw satellite dishes sprouting on people's homes like mushrooms

This way of watching television will be on TVs from this year. One of the fastest selling electronic goods is an HDMI cable which connects a laptop to the back of the TV and bingo, you're online and your TV has become an enormous monitor for your laptop.
SeeSaw joins existing streaming companies BlinkBox and MSN in providing Doctor Who stories online.
