More Series 5 speculation from The Sun

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 12:14 PM PST

Like the majority of their reports are, their latest appears to be largely based on what they’ve picked up from recent filming developments. However, their [...]

BBC America Confirm April 17th Premier

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 09:07 AM PST

Doctor Who season 31 is coming to BBC America in April!

BBC America has announced their airdate for the new series of Doctor Who - Saturday, April 17, 2010 - just 14 days after the series premiers in the United Kingdom!

Variety got the news first, which means that BBC America are continuing with their policy of airing Doctor Who as close to the UK broadcast as possible in an attempt to both circumvent unlicenced viewing of the episodes via torrent downloads and to improve DVD sales.

With the series returning to British screens with hour-long episode The Eleventh Hour on April 3rd to fully introduce the new Doctor and his companion, Amy Pond (Matt Smith and Karen Gillan) the Steven Moffat era will be in full flow - however there is little to indicate at this stage whether BBC America will trim this episode or adjust their schedules to accommodate it as they did at Christmas and New Year with The Waters of Mars and The End of Time parts one and two.

We'll keep you updated!

(With thanks to Nicole!)

Say “Hi!” to Brian at Gallifrey!

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 08:57 AM PST

Brian Terranova is at Gallifrey One!

In a Kasterborous first, our very own associate editor Brian Terranova will be attending the Gallifrey One convention this weekend!

Our intrepid traveller will be swapping the East Coast for the West in a few hours time, and we'd love it if any other delegates would look out for Brian and shout "Terrasolo!" across the rooms of the convention whenever you spot him!

As you can see from the accompanying photo (uhh, he's the one on the left), Brian is a handsome chap, so he shouldn't be too difficult to spot. He'll probably be found hanging around the merchandise stalls or alternatively stalking any of the Big Finish luminaries attending the convention.

Guests from the worlds of Doctor Who in attendance include Sarah Sutton, Katy Manning, Deborah Watling, Anneke Wills, Frazer Hines, John Levene, Tommy Knight, Georgia Moffett, costume designer Louise Page, directors Graeme Harper, Colin Teague and Alice Troughton, the remarkable Nicholas Briggs, script editor Gary Russell, writers Phil Ford, John Fay, Rob Shearman and Paul Cornell and IDW comic series writer Tony Lee.

We hope everyone travelling to and from LA this weekend for the event gets there and back safely, and enjoys themselves thoroughly!

Barrowman: “I haven’t heard anything”

Posted: 24 Feb 2010 11:35 PM PST

John Barrowman spoke to Digital Spy this week about his current and upcoming activities - including a possible extended run on the US drama Desperate Housewives - and of course conversation turned to Torchwood.

John Barrowman - any sign of Torchwood s4?Barrowman was as usual denying all knowledge of any immediate future for Torchwood - only this time strangely consistent with previous statements. He genuinely seems to have no idea what is happening.

"I don't know if we're gonna be filming Torchwood. I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard anything about what you're talking about! I only know that I would - at the drop of a hat - love to do Torchwood again.

"I would love to do more than five episodes. But if we're only going to do five episodes, I'm happy with that."

He added: "I love the character, I love the show, and I would love to do it again. But I don't have any other information - I'm so sorry."

So - what future for Torchwood? Is an American co-production the show's only future, despite the success of Children of Earth?

Yesterday the collection that the BBC had sent to Auction at Bonhams went under the Hammer.

The Torchwood SUV went for 18,000 pound Sterling and Jackson Lakes Costume Brought in 3,120 Pounds.

A full list of what each individual piece Brought can be Found at the end of this Piece though a Link to the Bonhams Website.

It should be also noted that the two Planet of the Dead red Busses were removed before the Auction began, which makes me wonder what the BBC has planed for those.

Challis Recalls Krynoid

Posted: 24 Feb 2010 10:46 PM PST

John Challis - villain Scorby in 1976's The Seeds of Doom and pictured here in his most famous role of Boycie in Only Fools and Horses - has recently been interviewed for a local paper and spoke fondly of his time on Doctor Who.

John Challis as Boycie in Only Fools and HorsesAs Scorby, Challis was in charge of security for insane millionaire Harrison Chase - a role that meant travelling to Antarctica to steal a Krynoid pod, a act that came close to destroying all animal life on earth…

"I played Scorby in a 6-part storyline alongside Tom Baker and it was a fantastic time.

"Tom was such a larger then life character you could not help but get swept along with the whole thing.

"I remember chasing after Elisabeth Sladen in every episode - I had this enormous space gun given to me and I never got to use it!

"I think I met a horrible end - eaten by a rampant weed.

"Somebody gave me the DVD of it quite recently and although it looks pretty ropey now it is still great fun."

The Seeds of Doom is a genuine classic, so it's good to see that John Challis enjoyed rewatching it.

Of course, The Seeds of Doom isn't out on DVD - so could Challis have received a copy from 2entertain in advance of a possible commentary…?

Read more about John Challis' long career in the Croydon Guardian.
