2011 Confirmed for Doctor Who! Posted: 18 Mar 2010 06:48 AM PDT This evening's press launch for the new series has seen confirmation that Doctor Who will return for season 32 in 2011, marking the sixth full series since the shows return in 2005. A Christmas special will also appear on screens later this year, with Matt Smith returning for a second full series as the Eleventh Doctor! No news as yet however on whether Karen Gillan will continue beyond this series as Amy Pond… Executive producer Piers ("Darth") Wenger announced that the 2010 Christmas special would be penned by showrunner Steven ("The Grand Moff") Moffat. According to Digital Spy, shooting on the new series is set to complete this Saturday - a four month break for the stars will then allow them to prepare for the shooting of a further 13 episodes, filming of which will kick off in July.
Matt Smith talks to BBC News at Series 5 launch Posted: 18 Mar 2010 05:52 AM PDT The Series 5 press launch is now well underway in Cardiff, and earlier tonight Matt Smith spoke to BBC News Entertainment Correspondent Lizo Mzimba about what we can expect from the forthcoming series! “It’s weird, ’cause you live in this world for 9 months and you’re doing it everyday,” he admitted. “Suddenly it’s being handed over to the public and they’re gonna [...]
Amy Pond - Not Just a Companion Posted: 18 Mar 2010 05:24 AM PDT Digital Spy have interviewed Karen Gillan, the actress who is set to become a Saturday evening TV star as the Doctor's companion equal, Amy Pond in the new Doctor Who in April. Amy is absolutely in no way at all the Doctor's "companion", says Gillan.
Which is a relief - I used to hate all of those scenes in which the Tenth Doctor would put his hand up Martha's back and do her voice. Seriously though - it will be interesting to see how the new Doctor deals with an earth girl who won't be pushed around. She might sound a lot like predecessor Donna Nobile in some ways, but it seems likely Amy Pond has a more adventurous streak to her. Which might be where her choice of policewoman attire comes into the plot of The Eleventh Hour…
She's not giving anything away - and why should she? UK viewers can tune into BBC One in just a couple of weeks time to see Karen Gillan and Matt Smith as Amy Pond and the Doctor!
Sixth series, Christmas special commissioned! Posted: 18 Mar 2010 04:41 AM PDT It was confirmed today that Doctor Who will be returning for a 13-part sixth series in 2011! Doctor Who Press Launch Today! Posted: 18 Mar 2010 01:00 AM PDT Press and stars of Doctor Who are on on their way to Cardiff today to enjoy the press launch for the new series, set to kick off on Saturday, 3rd April with The Eleventh Hour! An almost annual event, it is at the press launch that many of the interviews you will see and hear over the next few weeks will take place, not to mention preview articles and reviews in magazines and newspapers. Look out for appearances on BBC TV from Lizo Mbiza, particularly on the BBC News Channel around 6.30 when he expects to be interviewing Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. Meanwhile, today is pretty much D-Day for spoilerphones - the leaks are going to start appearing from early evening onwards, so, if you want to keep The Eleventh Hour special beyond the eleventh hour and right up until broadcast, its time to switch on your games console and stay off the web! Running to 60 minutes, The Eleventh Hour stars Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, and is written by Steven Moffat. The stars will be touring the UK in two weeks time to promote the episode with preview showings in several cities around the country in the BBC Outreach bus, while magazine and TV appearances have already been arranged - Matt Smith is a guest on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on Friday 26th.
The 11th Hour Red Button Special Posted: 17 Mar 2010 11:28 PM PDT UK viewers will get an exclusive preview of The Eleventh Hour from next Wednesday when the first minute of the episode is made available on the BBC Red Button service.
Big Finish on Tom Baker Rumour Posted: 17 Mar 2010 11:17 PM PDT Big Finish have come to the rescue of anyone wondering exactly what the facts are about a possible appearance by Tom Baker in their Doctor Who audio range. While the man himself has confirmed:
…Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs has added:
Big Finish have also stressed that any future audios featuring Tom Baker would not have any affect on his ongoing work with BBC Audiobooks, adding weight to the rumour of a follow-up to the Hornet's Nest series. This is of course great news - Tom's return to the convention scene seems to have given various Big Finish movers and shakers the chance to engage the Fourth Doctor directly, and while there is no solid agreement, what we have here is a much better response than previous flat denials.
It’s the Series 5 press launch today! Posted: 17 Mar 2010 10:49 PM PDT The red carpet will be rolled out today and Doctor Who fever will well and truly hit the waves as Series 5 is officially launched to the press in Cardiff! A host of critics will be attending to watch a screening of the first episode, The Eleventh Hour, and to chat to Matt Smith and Karen Gillan about all things Series 5! So, expect [...]

New interview with Karen from DigitalSpy Posted: 17 Mar 2010 10:28 PM PDT DigitalSpy have today released a brand new interview with Karen Gillan, in which the actress reveals all regarding the forthcoming series! She’s a person in her own right – she’s not just the companion, [...]
Posted: 17 Mar 2010 09:50 PM PDT Rumours abound currently that a "red button" trailer for the new series of Doctor Who is set to be launched next week! Freeview channel 301 is expected to run the alleged trailer on a loop from Wednesday, 24th March, which rather than featuring any clips or highlights is supposedly featuring the first 60 seconds of The Eleventh Hour - giving viewers and fans the chance to find out what happens in the second minute of the Eleventh Doctor's life. Starring Matt Smith and likely showing us the Doctor's first encounter with Amy Pond, it would make sense for the trailer - in the style of the 2008 Children in Need preview of The Next Doctor - to also introduce us to the new companion as played by Karen Gillan. At present only Freeview 301 is listing the trailer - Sky and Virgin Media customers will need to wait until their EPGs are updated to display content for the week commencing March 20th.
Posted: 17 Mar 2010 09:24 PM PDT In the wake of a large amount of speculation on the internet about the possibility of Tom Baker working on Doctor Who audio productions with Big Finish, we thought we'd state the facts as they are now. Tom Baker would like to confirm that 'warm contact' has been made with Big Finish. He adds, wryly, 'In my twilight years, I am looking forward to a tremendous Big Finish and the sooner the better.' Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs adds, 'Tom and I have been communicating about possible projects for some time. There is really no firm news other than that, but we are both keen to make something happen. 'Lis Sladen, Louise Jameson and Nicholas Courtney have also expressed an interest in being involved, but no storylines have been written or approved yet and we don't anticipate anything being available before 2011.' Big Finish would like to stress that any audio productions it may make featuring Tom Baker as the fourth Doctor would not clash with or affect Tom's continuing, highly successful work with BBC Audiobooks.

On day one the clip is expected to be available from 6am-2pm, from 3pm to 5.50pm and then from 9.10pm onwards. The BBC red button service can be viewed on digital platforms in the UK. Tom Baker to record a Big Finish Audio? Posted: 17 Mar 2010 08:25 PM PDT Tom Baker to record a Big Finish Audio? News Dated: 17/3/2010 Tom Baker has hinted that he may record a Big FInish audio adventure. Speaking exclusively to Doctor Who Online in a recent interview, Tom Baker entertained the idea of possibly doing a Big Finish audio adventure. When asked if he would do one, Tom had the following to say: "Perhaps I could give that a whirl... Maybe they'll listen to this and get in touch with me...so I'll think about the Big Finish...The Big Finish sounds terribly ominous at my age!". Below is the Big Finish excerpt from our 93-Minute interview with Tom Baker, which you can hear in full in Episode #93 of the DWO WhoCast. **To listen to clip, check out the DWO News page** As an update to this news item, Tom has also responded to a message on his official website's forumc, confirming his plans to record a Big Finish audio. Doctor Who fans have been very keen to see a 4th Doctor Big Finish audio adventure materialise for some years now, with Tom being the only remaining (living) actor to have been in the role, to have yet to record for the company. As fans of both Big Finish and Tom Baker, we have our fingers crossed that this does indeed happen! Check Out Big Finish's range of Doctor Who audio adventures. Posted: 17 Mar 2010 08:01 PM PDT Doctor Who Executive Producer and lead writer Steven Moffat has "invited" Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg to direct an episode of the series! Speaking to the TV Times listings magazine, Moffat - whose first episode in charge of Doctor Who airs Easter Weekend - discussed the moment when Spielberg called him at home to accept his resignation from the Tintin movie, for which he had already completed an initial script. Expected to be released in 2011, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn stars Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, Nick Frost, Jamie Bell and Daniel Craig and uses a motion capture 3D technique. In response to a question as to whether or not Spielberg might like to direct Doctor Who, Moffat replied:
Imagine that - the director of Jaws, ET, Avatar and countless other amazing films directing Doctor Who! Of course, it'll never happen… will it?
