DWIN attends the Canadian premiere of The Eleventh Hour Posted: 08 Apr 2010 12:12 PM PDT This Thursday, Space: The Imagination Station held the Canadian premiere of The Eleventh Hour in the legendary fifth floor of Toronto’s Masonic Temple. Representatives of DWIN attended the showing along with many old and new media representatives, and we’re happy to report that the future of Doctor Who is in fine hands. And we aren’t just referring to Steven Moffat and Matt Smith here. Whereas the CBC not only dropped the ball after the 2005 series but wiped their shoes clean on it and punted it into the lake, Space seems determined not to make the same mistakes. Representatives from Space were sure to make guests feel welcome upon arrival, and on-air hosts Teddy Wilson and Ajay Fry kept the energy high during their introduction and the subsequent brief Q&A with Steven Moffat, who seemed gratified by the audience’s evident appreciation of the new episode and happy to take the time out for this chat despite the fact that it was going on midnight in his time zone. The episode itself lived up to all its potential; it’s a high-energy re-introduction to the series, reimagining it as a fairy tale for disillusioned grown-ups. Matt Smith inhabits the character of the Doctor perfectly, and Karen Gillan more than matches his energy, while her character’s backstory holds potential for disturbing developments to come. The audience certainly seemed to appreciate it, frequently laughing and at one point even breaking out into applause. So all in all, a rousing success. Season Fnarg of Doctor Who premieres on Space on 17 April, and for every person who doesn’t watch it, a unicorn will die. It’s in good hands here in Canada, and your blogger for one would heartily encourage all those reading this to support it at its new home for as long as its new home is happy to support it.

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 06:19 AM PDT You see, I like David Tennant… but then I like Doctor Who with Matt Smith. But which is best? There's only one way to find out! Fight! The above is how comedian and TV Burp host Harry Hill might put this article on Geeks.co.uk, entitled Dr vs Dr, Smith vs Tennant, in which Ewan Smith compares the two most recent incarnations. If you, like me, feel it might be a bit too soon to start comparing, you might like to avoid clicking on the link, which eschews our favourite past time here at Kasterborous of reasoned argument in favour of insulting Russell T Davies and David Tennant. That's right, it might be Doctor versus Doctor on the title, but this aggressive hit piece makes a mockery of opinion based journalism and degrades an otherwise reasonable blog (I like geeks.co.uk and follow them on Twitter) into nothing more than comment-bait. The only true comparison going on in that article is between the writer's ego and the speed of his fingers, the latter woefully keeping up with the hateful bile vomiting from his dying soul.

What a difference BBC America makes! Posted: 08 Apr 2010 04:21 AM PDT Doctor Who is on a billboard, on the sides of buses, and there are screenings in major cities throughout the country, featuring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and executive producer Steven Moffat. What country is this? It's got to be the UK, right? WRONG!!!! It's the United States of America! So what's changed? When the show was relaunched in 2005, and when David Tennant became the Doctor there was nothing. Well, that was when the show was on Sci-Fi. Now it's on BBC America, the show's natural home, and these people just get it! They know that the show can be a huge success - it's already the #1 show on the channel, and want the show to be even bigger!

Posted: 07 Apr 2010 10:25 PM PDT Has promotional coverage of the new Doctor Who interactive adventure game on the BBC website revealed a much-anticipated redesign of the 2006 Cybermen? Last seen in The Next Doctor (2008), the modern Cybermen have their roots in "Pete's World" – the alternate universe in which Rose Tyler lives with her family and the Tenth Doctor – and the hand of John Lumic. Some managed to escape being exterminated by Daleks or sucked back into the void by escaping into the 19th Century, where the Cybermen attempted to build a CyberKing and conquer the world, only to be thwarted by the Tenth Doctor. Despite being a long way out of time and stranded in our universe, these Cybermen were more than certainly "CybusMen" – a name coined by fans to distinguish them from the classic series creatures. Has the end come for Cybus? This image which originally accompanied the news of the Doctor Who interactive adventure game seems to suggest that it has – the distinctive "C" emblem representing Cybus has (finally) been replaced. The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) are set to encounter the Cybermen later in the current series of Doctoor Who.
