Anwen Aspden, executive producer at BBC Wales, told MCV:
He also commented about upcoming changes to Saturday's final release:
The game itself looks and sounds fantastic and is a lot of fun to play but at the moment is a little slow on even the latest computers. Here's hoping all problems will be ironed out by tomorrow! City of the Daleks will officially be available for download from the BBC's Doctor Who website from tomorrow. |

The adventure will be called Planet Bollywood and is full of his recognisable trademarks. Roger has drawn for other popular comics in the past such as Judge Dredd and Batman. He's also worked with Scott Gray, who has delivered some of the most amazing stories for the Doctor Who comic strip you could ever read. His last Doctor Who strip was in 2000 and called The Autonomy Bug. You may also have seen his work on main cover of Vworp Vworp! magazine, which also features the first episode of Kasterborous strip Time Leech. Langridge expects to finish this latest piece whilst on the road to attend HeroesCon. Get an eyeful of the new artwork here. |
Posted: 04 Jun 2010 04:00 AM PDT The Doctor's amazing adventures continue on DVD and Blu-ray with the second volume of the hugely popular fifth series, featuring the next three episodes; the thrilling two-part story, written by Steven Moffat – The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone - as well as The Vampires of Venice. Full of new characters and some familiar monsters, Volume 2 is released on July 5th, priced at £15.99. Get ready for the re-appearance of some recognisable faces in the two-part story of this time-travelling drama. A crashed spaceship, a shattered temple and a terrifying climb through the maze of the dead – River Song is back in the Doctor's life, and she's brought more trouble than even he can handle. The last of the Weeping Angels is loose in the ruins of Alfava Metraxis, and the Doctor is recruited to track it down. "Don't blink!" everyone tells Amy – but as Amy is about to discover, not blinking might just be the worst thing you can do… In the final episode on this fantastical volume, journey to Venice where even danger is beautiful. The House of Calvierri has the whole city under its protection, but something is very wrong. There are blood-drained corpses in the street, something lurks in the canal, and the Calvierri girls are the loveliest in town, except when you glance in the mirror… Starring Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, this exciting new series also guest stars a wealth of British acting talent including Alex Kingston (Doctor Who, ER), Iain Glen (Law and Order UK) and Helen McCrory (Harry Potter). Extras: The Monster Files, a behind the scenes look at the monsters from the collection including an up close look at the terrifying Weeping Angels – whatever you do don't blink! |
Posted: 04 Jun 2010 02:46 AM PDT A less busy, more elegant featurette from the BFI premiere allows the viewer a chance to listen to some of Richard Curtis' reasons for writing Vincent and the Doctor and his opinion of the Doctor's character, and Karen Gillan's point-of-view on what it was like to film in Croatia:
View the whole snapshot of Gillan and Curtis at the BBC or on YouTube! You Heard the Kids! 9 Out of 10! The final BFI video we have to show you today focuses on the reaction from the children who saw the screening, and their opinions on Vincent and the Doctor. It seems to be generally positive, although one girl seemed disappointed with the length.
was her reply when she was apparently posed with the same question Karen Gillan was asked two videos ago, the question of rating the episode on a scale of 1 to 10. Interestingly, during a clip of the Q&A session after one of the screenings in the same video, Richard Curtis revealed to a young fan in the crowd that had he been asked to write a previous episode, he would have wanted to write Blink. I suppose we'll have to wait and see what sort of story Curtis' writing style can provide for us before we can speculate on what his version of Blink might be like. YouTubers go here. Okay, What Have You Got For Me This Time? So, if you're looking for a sneak peek, some behind-the-scenes-of-a-screening-event action, or just a bit of history, the BBC website has thought of you. With this much information, plus the City of the Daleks game, we expect you should be kept plenty busy until Vincent and the Doctor airs tomorrow at 6:40PM on BBC1 and BBCHD! |
Posted: 04 Jun 2010 02:07 AM PDT Karen Gillan has revealed that while still adjusting to the media spotlight, it has been an instant 'shock to the system' taking on the mantle of the Doctor's companion.
Characteristically, she's taken it all in her rather leggy stride and has been nothing but positive about the Who experience.
Gillan also recalled the moment whilst promoting Doctor Who in America when a fan got down on one knee and tried to make an honest woman of the Amy Pond actress.

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 01:00 AM PDT Richard Curtis is no stranger to weddings – that's why he's thrown his hat into the ring for the Doctors and Amy's nuptials. Curtis, writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Bridget Jones's Diary and this Saturdays episode of Who Vincent and the Doctor, loves the chemistry between Matt Smith and Karen Gillan so much, he jokingly said he'd love to write their wedding episode.

Posted: 04 Jun 2010 12:20 AM PDT Matt Smith and Karen Gillan recently sat down to talk about their favorite artists (YouTube here) in the latest of their "Big Questions" segments on the BBC website as a tie-in to Vincent and the Doctor. Interestingly, of the long list of painters and sculptors drawn up between them, Van Gogh is not mentioned once. No wonder he cut his ear off; he must have wanted a Doctor's attention! If you're one of those people who likes to study up on the truth behind a historical episode of Doctor Who before you watch, the Beeb has you covered as well – If you go here, you'll find a brief biography of the starving artist's life and how he posthumously became recognized as one of the most significant painters ever to have lived. You'll also inevitably come across six links to elsewhere in the cloud with more detailed information on Van Gogh and other artists from his time, including a visit to the BBC's own archive. |

Vincent And The Doctor Previewed Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:30 PM PDT Warning – This preview contains spoilers. If in doubt do not read.
Vincent And The Doctor is the long-awaited episode from Richard Curtis, the man who helped bring Blackadder to the small screen, wrote the script that launched Hugh Grant's cinematic career and is a driving force behind Comic Relief. Many will probably assume that his background in comedy will bring a light touch to Doctor Who. Well they may be slightly disappointed as this is a rather dark and unpredictable episode which takes a historical figure and places him into rather bizarre and chilling circumstances. Terror lurks in the cornfields of Provence, but only a sad and lonely painter can see it. Amy Pond finds herself shoulder to shoulder with Vincent Van Gogh, in a battle with a deadly alien. Touching, sentimental, bleak and at times whimsical this is not a traditional Doctor Who episode, much in the same way Love & Monsters wasn't and will split the audience right down the middle. I can almost hear the discussions and vigorous chat and debate from fans as I type this preview. Containing many of the writer's trademark touches such as light comedy, human emotion and love, the story may at first seem slight but it is actually an incredibly deep episode which looks at the darker side of creativity. The small ensemble are forced to face up to demons both personal and possibly real with measured gusto. Matt and Karen are in supporting roles here as Tony Curran takes centre stage, embracing the role of Van Gogh painting the artist larger than life with bold, colourful strokes. Bill Nighy (a man often connected with the role of the Doctor) pops up as a Curator, a rather charming and polished cameo played, as you'd expect, to his usual perfection. Vincent And The Doctor is not the episode I was expecting, but after the action packed Silurian two parter, this is just what the series needs to help ease us into the final stretch. |
Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:20 PM PDT Do you like Doctor Who? Do you like anime? Do you like the idea of anime with Doctor Who? Well, even if you don’t you’re going to love the work of British artist Paul “OtaKing” Johnston, who has been putting together a Doctor Who anime short. Here are some excerpts of his work in progress which are, frankly, amazing—even if the sight of an Anime Third Doctor takes some getting used to. Why they haven’t hired him to animate the missing episodes of The Ice Warriors is beyond me…

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 08:28 PM PDT Former Doctor Who companion Katy Manning will be doing the Crusaid Walk For Life this Sunday, 6th June, in London. Manning played Jo Grant, assistant to the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, from 1971-1973, and will return to the character when she stars alongside new Doctor Matt Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures later this year. She volunteered to do the walk with the deputy editor of GT magazine, Darren Scott, when she heard he had agreed to do the walk in a novelty Dalek costume. Referring to her infamous naked Dalek photoshoot from the 70s, she joked that the pair should recreate the pose, albeit fully clothed. Crusaid's Walk for Life is Europe's largest fundraising walk for HIV and AIDS. The pair can be sponsored via the event website. |

The event will take place both in and outside the ABC Shop in Eastlands Shopping Centre and in attendance will be a full- size replica of the TARDIS, a Dalek and K-9 loaned by Wayne Ottaway of Dalek Downunder. Other retailers such as Gloria Jeans coffees, Wendy's Ice Cream, Donut King, Little India, What's New and Tassie Cameras will also offer special deals for the evening. The event is free and all are welcome. |

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 04:31 PM PDT This week Doctor Who TV celebrates it’s fifth birthday. How time flies! Inspired by the revival of Doctor Who, a site was set-up shortly after the broadcast of The Doctor Dances in early June 2005. Back then we were a rather simple site running on Yahoo’s now defunct GeoCities, and the site had a different name [...] |
