Australian ratings for The Hungry Earth Posted: 06 Jun 2010 01:46 PM PDT The Hungry Earth has debuted in Australia to excellent ratings. TV Tonight reports that the episode averaged 914,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks. However, it was not the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, instead coming a close second to a new episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot which averaged 926,000 viewers. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated a solid 635,000 viewers in the five major capitals. |

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 07:18 AM PDT Film and TV prop makers WETA are holding a superb summer sale through their merchandise division – one that features some beautiful statues and helmets from Doctor Who! Massive reductions are available until Wednesday, 3rd June on one of their most visually striking statues, as well as two collections of Doctor Who monster helmets. The Cybercontroller statue (pictured) is sculpted By Weta Workshop's David Tremont and Ben Hawker, and is currently available for half the usual price – get it now for just £69 until Wednesday, 3rd June. This is based on the Cybercontroller seen in 2006 Tenth Doctor adventure The Age of Steel, the result of the Cyber-conversion of John Lumic (Roger Lloyd-Pack). The first collection of three helmets – The Sycorax Helmet (The Christmas Invasion), Sontaran Officer Linx Helmet (The Time Warrior) and The Ice Warrior Helmet – can be bought in a triple pack for just £66, a reduction of £30. Finally, Doctor Who Helmet pack 2 features Time Lord President Borusa's Headdress, The Industrial Welding Mask from 42 and a classic series Cyberman Leader Helmet. This pack is reduced to just £75, a reduction of £33 off the marked price. While WETA are a New Zealand based company, they have warehouses in both the UK and the USA. Head on over to WETA for more details – but remember, you have until Wednesday, 3rd June to take advantage of these great prices! |

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 06:31 AM PDT As reported by the official BAFTA Twitter feed today, a police box has been snapped on the red carpet at the television awards event in London. Broadcast on BBC One this evening, the event is intended to honour those that have made a positive contribution to television over the past 12 months – although for some reason a "Special Award" is being given to Simon Cowell. So much for "positive". In the nominations department, Doctor Who doesn't get a look-in – nothing for David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Bernard Cribbins, or any of the new series cast and crew. Which begs the question: Why is the TARDIS there at all? With no nominations for Doctor Who – and the only obvious interest in Suranne Jones (Mona Lisa's Revenge in the most recent series of The Sarah Jane Adventures) and Sophie Okonedo (Liz 10 in The Beast Below) – it can only be for promotional or "big announcement" purposes. Time will tell… |

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 06:00 AM PDT Assuming the episode is still called The Lodger by the time we get to Saturday (apparently "Don't Go Up The Stairs" has also been a title), here's a preview of the next episode of Doctor Who. Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, The Lodger also stars James Corden (Gavin & Stacey, as if you needed telling), and is the episode from which images of Matt Smith and Corden photographed playing football originate – right on time to coincide with the World Cup!
The Lodger originated in an edition of Doctor Who Magazine in 2006; in that version, the Tenth Doctor stayed with Mickey for a week while the TARDIS drifted with Rose on board. Both versions are by Gareth Roberts (The Unicorn and the Wasp). Catch Doctor Who on BBC One or the simulcast on the BBC HD channel (Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108) on Saturday, 12th June at 6.45pm |

The full-colour carrier features Doctor Matt Smith and his assistant Amy Pond played by Karen Gillan on one side and a Dalek on the reverse, and both HMV and 2Entertain hope the carrier will prove a real hit with collectors and fans of the show. Volume 1 of the new series starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan includes the first 3 episodes: 1.
