Posted: 05 Jul 2010 07:02 AM PDT Dry, tired eyes? Shakes? Trouble sleeping? If you're suffering from any of the above, chances are you can't quite reconcile the events of The Big Bang with reason, logic, or what Doctor Who has already taught you about time travel. You're not alone. There are thousands like you, and as a result Den of Geek have pulled together an exhaustive (put it this way – you'll have no trouble sleeping…) list explaining various quibbles that fans have had with the 2010 finale. In fairness to Steven Moffat, the majority of these quibbles can be explained away by simply paying attention to the episode, but kudos to Den of Geek for taking the time to present the facts. If a big long article isn't quite what you had in mind, meanwhile, why not try this great graphic illustration charting the timelines of the Doctor, Amy, River, Rory, the TARDIS and the Stone Dalek? |
Posted: 05 Jul 2010 06:15 AM PDT With the Doctor not returning to our screens until after Santa's paid us a visit, the BBC website has released a few tantalising paragraphs about a new web exclusive game featuring one Miss Karen Gillan. While not a new installment of Doctor Who: The Adventure Game, The History Hunt, is an interactive game where the player will help the Doctor and Amy Pond solve clues, explore the world of the Doctor and watch exclusive videos of the stars in action. The game is set to be one of a raft of new Doctor Who content coming in the next few weeks from the BBC's Official Doctor Who website in the build up to Christmas. In the meantime, remember that fans in the UK can download the first two parts of Doctor Who: The Adventure Game for free! |
Posted: 05 Jul 2010 05:31 AM PDT Released last year in print, David Tennant A Year In The Spotlight is now available as an e-book, with proceeds going to the cancer charity AICR which David Tennant supports. 2008 was a massive year for the actor David Tennant in terms of the press interest in him. This book seeks to look at an amazing year in the spotlight in the life of one quite humble actor through reports in the press, through comments by his friends and colleagues and through reactions by his fans. As well as a section of all this theatre reviews, the book also covers: *All the awards both David Tennant and Doctor Who received during the year David Tennant A Year In The Spotlight is 356 pages in length and is available online in print from either www.DavidTennantBook.com or on Amazon.co.uk, or as an e-book available either as a PDF or in Kindle format from Amazon.com. Posted: 05 Jul 2010 02:45 AM PDT Well, I say celebrity – here in the UK, Wil Wheaton is still seen as the badly-conceived Wes Crusher kid from Star Trek: TNG. However, there's no need to be unkind to the actor himself; Wheaton is a fan of Doctor Who, it seems, and not necessarily the new stuff. Digital Spy reports that grown up Wes Crusher actor Wheaton – soon to be appearing in Eureka on SyFy – has been chilling out watching some quality classic Doctor Who online. Thanks to Twitter, we now know that Wheaton has got taste:
It's a great choice – The Ark in Space stars Tom Baker as the Doctor, with Lis Sladen as Sarah and Ian Marter as Harry. From Baker's first series, the adventure sees the travellers separated from the TARDIS and on board a spacecraft orbiting Earth, in which the last survivors of the planet sleep… along with a few alien Wirrn! Why not follow Wil Wheaton on Twitter? For that matter, why not follow Kasterborous on Twitter? UpdateWe should also add that Wheaton later observed:
Does he have a point? |
Doctor Who: The Big Bang - Final Ratings Posted: 05 Jul 2010 02:04 AM PDT Final figures for the final episode of the recent series of Doctor Who, The Big Bang, are partially available from BARB, with the BBC One showing getting 6.12 million viewers. This was enough to make it the ninth most watched programme of the week for BBC One. Final figures for BBC HD have not yet been released and will hopefully be available later in the week, at which time a final chart position can be calculated. The final audience for the Sunday repeat of The Big Bang was 0.72 million. Full ratings for the series so far can be found in Gallifrey Base. |

We're aware that the day didn't go without a few technical hitches, so thanks to everyone for their patience during the peak times. Our sales department is now working its way through the orders. We hope to process these as soon as possible, but because of the large quantity there may be a delay. We'll keep you informed of their progress. |

Posted: 04 Jul 2010 07:01 PM PDT Picking at the internal logic of the series past, SFX have honoured Doctor Who with a Spurious Awards special – looking at the great, the poor and the most baffling moments of New Who. It's good to see that the most divisive episode of Who received the most praise. Vincent and the Doctor received plaudits including Most Beautiful Moment of the Year for the un-Who like 'Starry night' homage, Most Shameless Tear-Jerking Moment of the Year, for the most cynical, effective use of Athlete's music since One Tree Hill, Best Amy Moment of the Year, for the absolutely stunning image of Amy trying to tempt Vincent to paint sunflowers and Uncanny Similarity of the Year for Tony Curran (Red Road, 24) whose striking similarity to Vincent Van Gogh was surpassed by his great performance as the troubled artist. The moments on the receiving end of a drubbing are Graham Norton's unwanted cameo, the Krafyasis, the invisible 'space turkey' (not) seen in Vincent and the Doctor, the Hoix and the Weevils from the Russell T. Davies era and Torchwood, whose baffling and useless appearance amongst the alliance was liken to George Bush's Coalition of the Willing members 'Micronesia and the Dominican Republic.' Unsurprisingly the re-designed Daleks are the target of much scorn;
Interestingly a comment made on Kasterborous's review of The Pandorica Opens, regarding the presence of the Silurians in the alliance when the Doctor had made them sleep for a thousand years may have been dubiously answered. Head over to SFX for the full list of Spurious Awards. |
Doctor Who news and rumours roundup Posted: 03 Jul 2010 03:51 AM PDT It's a week today since Series 5 (or Series 1 or Series 31, depending on which counting system you subscribe to) ended in the UK, yet it seems only yesterday that we were all eagerly anticipating Matt Smith and Steven Moffat's first season of Doctor Who. Viewers in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere still have the anticipation of what's to come (assuming you haven't seen the episodes over the Internet already and, assuming you haven't spoilered yourself with the deluge of articles appearing everywhere!). And a lot's happened in the seven days since the end of The Big Bang in the UK, when we found out that the crack in time ... oops, spoilers! But - be warned! - a hefty dose of salt may be needed before reading some of what follows ... Matt joined Orbital on stage at Glastonbury for "Dr Who", their rendition of the show's theme tune. Meanwhile, he had to put up with a lot of nonsense from the British tabloid press concerning so-called "falling ratings" - which doesn't actually appear to stand up to much scrutiny - and William Hill slashing the odds on him remaining on the show. Then, apparently, Moffat's script for the 2010 Christmas Special went missing and several of the writer's for next year were announced (see Digital Spy). On a positive note, as we reported on Wednesday, Barbara Kidd, who previously worked on Who episodes involving Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison, is returning to the show for the 2011 series. The monster line up for the Doctor Who Live tour details were confirmed and Neil Gaiman Tweeted that he'd completed his Who script. And, then there are the "facts" that Matt wants both Eric Cantona and Ian McKellen to appear in the show as baddies! See this article for more details. Last, but not least, is the revelation that Johnny Depp has "definitely" signed up to play the Doctor in a big-budget Hollywood movie, written by Russell T Davies and featuring the Daleks and the Ebola virus! There are masses of stories relating to this rumour, but this one on Digital Journal at least takes a more sober and detailed look, including on the history of Doctor Who movies, proposed and actual. Happy times and places! |
