Dracula Returns for Textbook Stuff

Posted: 28 Jun 2010 10:41 PM PDT

Big Finish is delighted to announce the release of Bram Stoker - Dracula's Guest and Other Dark Tales read by the velvet-voiced Peter Guinness and produced by our sister site, Textbook Stuff. This classic short story was the only other piece of Dracula-related fiction Bram Stoker ever wrote and, so his widow claimed, may even have been the very first chapter of Dracula itself. It concerns an unnamed young Englishman (Jonathan Harker, perhaps) who finds himself in a deserted graveyard and unwisely decides to seek shelter in a tomb.

This unabridged 'weird tale', as Stoker termed it, is accompanied by two other complete stories from the master of horror: The Judge's House (in which a student's desire for peace and quiet takes a turn for the worse when he lodges in a haunted house) and A Gipsy Prophecy (in which a fortune teller predicts doom for a happily married couple).

All three titles are read by Peter Guinness, familiar to Big Finish listeners from his appearances in The Holy Terror, The Phantom of the Opera and The Beast of Orlok. Our friends at Textbook Stuff are also including three special suites of Howard Carter's beautiful music for this release. Bram Stoker - Dracula's Guest and Other Dark Tales is only available on download and can be purchased on its own here or as part of a Horror subscription, which includes supernatural tales by Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and M.R. James.

Follow the links for Textbook Stuff releases, including their Poetry range. If you want to know more about what makes Textbook Stuff titles different from ordinary audiobooks, why not listen to our special podcast here, where Nick Briggs chats to Barnaby Edwards about the project. Also available to download right now in the Horror range is Charles Dickens - The Signalman and Other Ghostly Tales.

Big Finish Day Revealed

Posted: 24 Jun 2010 06:37 PM PDT

We're delighted to announce that Big Finish Productions will be hosting a one-day internet-based event on Saturday 3 July 2010, beginning at 00:00 hours until midnight at www.bigfinish.com.

The centerpiece of the day is an exclusive, one-off massive sale during which the first 50 Doctor Who main range titles will be available to buy for just £5 each, on CD or download. This price is valid for the stated 24 hours only. So, if you're missing anything from The Sirens of Time up until Zagreus, this is a unique opportunity to catch up.

"We're aware that some Doctor Who fans have never tried Big Finish," says executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery. "And we're also aware that some people have the more recent titles but have never dipped into the back catalogue. This is a chance for them to do so."

For anyone who already has those 50 titles, there's still plenty to enjoy on Big Finish Day. We'll be releasing – for free, and for one day only – episode one of Cobwebs, the start of the new trilogy that reunites the Fifth Doctor with Tegan, Turlough and Nyssa for the first time in 26 years.

"We were thrilled that Janet has elected to join the Big Finish fold," says executive producer Nicholas Briggs, "and I can promise that this trilogy of Cobwebs, The Whispering Forest and The Cradle of the Snake will delight all fans of that era. On Big Finish Day, you'll get a chance to hear an early preview of that brilliant TARDIS crew in action."

As well as additional sale items, the Big Finish website will be offering a selection of wallpapers for download, featuring some of Alex Mallinson's most inspired artwork.

Big Finish Day is only at www.bigfinish.com on Saturday 3 July 2010.
