The Elysium, After Dark

So, as we mentioned recently, and as you may have read elsewhere (elsewhere? ELSEWHERE?!) a new Doctor Who stage production The Crash of the Elysium is due to start next month.

Written by Doctor Who scribe Tom MacRae and based upon an idea by the man himself, Steven Moffat, the show is quite unique as it gets the children who attend it involved in the action!

The plot details are scarce but audiences will find themselves exploring the wreck of the steamship and hopefully having a lot of fun and scares as they go along.

However, what has recently been announced is that there will be a show that takes place after The Crash of the Elysium, which has the inconspicuous title of After Dark. Running from July 5th until July 17th, the additional performance will show between 8pm and 9pm.

Quite what this extra piece will entail can be left up to your imaginations for now. Maybe it will be a Torchwood style spin off where characters from the main production find themselves in some sticky situations!

The Crash of the Elysium will be making its debut at the Manchester International Festival. Information on ticket prices, dates and times and even a few video recommendations from a lucky few who have already got to see it is available at the MIF website.

Regenerations – the annual Swansea Doctor Who con  (now in its sixth year) – are planning a coup.

Armed with a nothing more than a letter and a quiet word organiser Cary Woodward plans to corner current companion Karen Gillan at the London Film & Comic Con at Earls Court and get her to join the likes of Sylvester McCoy, Frazer Hines, and David Warner at this years event according to This is South Wales.

Well, you can't blame a guy for trying:

"Actors in the current shows are restricted in what they can do, but if you don't ask you don't get. Sylvester McCoy and Louise Jameson, who played Leela, will be there as well. They have been to Regenerations before and are coming back this year, so they will be able to vouch for me."

He makes it sound like every cast member- past and present- are constantly Skyping one another about which events to avoid.

Woodward's confidence in persuading the first lady of TARDIS to join him may have been bolstered by the appearance of Madame Kovarian herself Frances Barber – whose story might not have been concluded by the time Regenerations takes place between the 17th and 18th September:

"Getting Frances is a real coup for us because her storyline isn't finished," said Cary. "There is a chance the next episode will be broadcast that weekend, but if it's not, she definitely won't be spilling the beans."

Also in attendance will be Frazer Hines, Sophie Aldred, Matthew Waterhouse, Anneke Wills, Wendy Padbury, Neve McIntosh, Rob Shearman and many more.

Tickets are limited to 200 so you'll have to move fast if you want to see whether or not Woodward achieves his goal.

Smith and Tennant up for Best Actor

Matt Smith and David Tennant have been nominated for "Best Actor" in the 2011 TV Choice Awards shortlist. Both will face competition from Colin Morgan and Benedict Cumberbatch.

For Best Actress, Karen Gillan and the late Elisabeth Sladen are nominated alongside Amanda Burton and Vicky McClure.

Also nominated is the show itself for "Best Family Drama", where it is up against Casualty, Merlin and Waterloo Road.

Steven Moffat's and Mark Gatiss' Sherlock has been nominated for "Best New Drama" along with Single Father, starring David Tennant, and Downton Abbey starring Hugh Bonneville. Toby Whithouse's Being Human, starring Russell Tovey and Lenora Crichlow, has been nomiated for "Best Drama Series".

Visit the Awards voting website to cast your votes. Voting on the shortlist will remain open until midnight (BST) on Friday 8 July. The winners will be announced on 13 September.

Hyde Fundraisers are delighted to pay tribute to actress Elisabeth Sladen with a special event on Saturday September 17th.

This special event is being hosted by Cineworld in Ashton-under-Lyne and will be raising money for BBC Children in Need along with Elisabeth's own charity.
The event will feature screenings of School Reunion and selected episodes from The Sarah Jane Adventures.
