| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 08:33 AM PDT I don't know about you, but I regularly browse the web looking for new Doctor Who stuff – and just the other day I came across a reference to WhoPixels. Ever since, I've seen the word EVERYWHERE I LOOK! Like the "Bad Wolf" at the end of Turn Left, this phrase has been following me constantly all week. Could it be that I am being stalked by language? Or is there something else going on? After all, the name, "whopixels" could be broken up into "who" and "pixels" which would indicate some sort of artistic endeavour. But then, there is no such website. A quick Google of the term will even lead you back to this very website and an article concerning Doctor Who video game writer Oli Smith. Hardly a great lead. What I want to know, in the absence of any hard evidence, is this: has it happened to you? Are you being haunted by this exciting yet mysterious phrase? Can anyone help me solve the mystery of WhoPixels?

| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 07:17 AM PDT Finally, after several months of rumours and speculation, the details of the 2011 large-format Doctor Who book have been revealed – and it's an Ice Warriors adventure by Dan Abnett…
Fortunately BBC Books continue to recognise that there is a market for Doctor Who novels that aren't aimed at 12 year olds, hence the continuation of the series with The Silent Stars Go By. Abnett is a pretty reliable author, of course, whose credits include various Big Finish audios but we all now that the big draw here is the presence of The Ice Warriors, the ancient race of bipedal ice-dwelling reptiles from Mars, who are usually enemies of the Doctor and humanity (although not always…)
With an RRP of £12.99, you can pre-order your copy of The Silent Stars Go By on Amazon for just £9.99 (Via Dan Abnett's blog)

| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 06:14 AM PDT That's a wrap! Filming has finished on the current series of Doctor Who. The final scenes have been filmed and the incredible journey that the cast, crew and characters of the show have been on since 2010 has reached its peak. Maybe this explains part of the reason that the series has been split in two. Obviously in a dramatic sense, there was the huge cliff-hanger that needed to be left for a few months to draw in more viewers but in the past, certain people involved in the making of Doctor Who (since it returned in 2005) have commented that the filming schedule can be gruelling number of months to work day after day. Perhaps splitting the series into two has given the Doctor Who team a bit of a well-deserved rest for a month or so in order to relax and tackle other projects. Just a thought… The last scenes to be shot for Series 6 have been described as "one of the most memorable sequences of the current series and typically for Doctor Who, it's a mixture of drama, humour and action." This may not necessarily be aimed at the season finale however, as Doctor Who episodes are usually filmed out of sequence. But with the latest series in the can, work has most probably started on the new series for 2012-2013, which as we all know will run up to the series' fiftieth anniversary. Exciting things are in the ether for Doctor Who, it's a real "watch this space" time. Direct from set, Karen Gillan commented on her last day of filming:
So all you Amy Pond fans rejoice! Contrary to rumours, she's not leaving, and will be back for a third round of adventures!
| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 05:41 AM PDT A 10" model of a monster created for a Doctor Who Adventures competition has been added to the Doctor Who Experience. Twelve year old Jessica Rickarby won the design-a-monster competition which featured in the magazine with her design, Screamer, picked from over 1,000 entries. The monster was then incorporated into a comic strip character for the Doctor to encounter in last week's issue, and a model maker has created a physical version which has been put on display to visitors to the Doctor Who Experience for the next three months; Jessica will then receive it to keep. Natalie Barnes, editor of Doctor Who Adventures said: The popularity of our Design A Monster competition highlighted the amazing imagination of children in the UK – but as soon as we saw the Screamer we knew that Jessica's creation was the winner. With the ability to render its victim unconscious by screaming in its face, the Screamer was so original and so scary, we had to ask the model-maker to make sure it wasn't too terrifying for adults! The prize-winning design featured on today's edition of the news programme for children on BBC1, Newsround - this is currently available to watch in the UK via their website. | ||
| The final countdown – Jack and Gwen are back! | TARDIS materialises at Caernarfon Castle Posted: 14 Jul 2011 02:24 AM PDT In what seems to be turning into a regular trip to the historic castles of Wales, this week sees the TARDIS materialise at the gate of Caernarfon Castle in North Wales. The police box prop stands prominently in the Queen's Gate and will be there until 27th July. Previously, the police box appeared at Raglan Castle back in February, and also turned up on the battlements of Caerphilly Castle during December 2009 as part of promotional activities by the Welsh historic environment service CADW. Doctor Who's relationship with castles and castle-like structures has flourished in recent years; May's adventure The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People saw several such locations used for filming, including Cardiff Castle, Caerphilly Castle, St Donat's Castle (aka Atlantic College), and the ruins of Neath Abbey. | ||

| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 12:48 AM PDT It's funny the things you can miss if you don't keep your ear to the ground when it comes to the internet. The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra, arranged by Stephen Wills, is a group collaborative event that took place over the internet. Talented musicians recorded their own separate parts via webcam and other devices and where then all mixed together to perform a fantastic version of "I am the Doctor", the triumphant signature theme tune for the eleventh Doctor. Resembling a gathering on the Subwave Network for 2008's "The Stolen Planet", no musicians met face to face-it was all recorded at different times. And it sounds pretty fantastic as well. Described by the person who posted the piece online as:
At the moment, this is the only piece that has been released but hopefully, and we imagine only if the video gets enough hits on Youtube, there will be more to come… So hit play and sit back and listen to just how much Doctor Who fans can achieve if they put their minds to it. And a big well done to them all! You can download the finished results in MP3 format via Dropbox. (Via CBS)
