Doctor Who: episode ten details

Posted: 27 Jul 2011 04:41 AM PDT

Writer Tom McRae spoke to the Northampton Chronicle about his forthcoming episode for Doctor Who, which has now been named by the BBC in a recent roundup on their Doctor Who website.

The following gives some details about episode which might be considered a spoiler.

The episode is to be called The Girl Who Waited; says McRae:
I went down onto the set quite a lot and it was great to see it filmed. It's a real tear-jerker of an episode and it's very much focused on Karen. Her acting in it is amazing. I know she'll break the viewers' hearts in two when they watch it, it's so emotional.

McRae hails from Northamptonshire, like the current Doctor Matt Smith:
It's wonderful writing for Matt, he's such a fantastic actor and a genuinely lovely guy. He's about the same age as me, we're from the same town and we've got a lot of friends in common, so it was great to work with him. And as The Doctor, I admire him so much. I'm a huge fan of what he's done on the show, I would say he's 'my Doctor'.

The Gunpowder Plot

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 11:18 PM PDT

Remember, Remember…some time in October? Okay, it isn't as incendiary as another famous rhyme about heeding a warning about plotting Regicide but it is the month when blasting out of the BBC Doctor Who website comes the next Doctor Who: The Adventure Game- The Gunpowder Plot!

Following on from the first series of Adventure Games – hich have clocked up an non too shabby 2.6 million downloads – the fifth installment features Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy and for the first time, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams (who you'll get to kill and have re-spawn more times than the TV incarnation.)

The game pits the TARDIS travellers against invading aliens in London circa 1604 but also you'll get the chance to meet Guy Fawkes, get a feel for what life was like during this upheaval, chat to famous figures from the time and participate in the actual Gunpowder Plot (probably followed by you flying off in the TARDIS and leaving old Guy to leap to his death from the Gallows for something you also had a hand in. Yay!)

On the technical front the game promises multi-linear game play, more sophisticated puzzles, greater lighting effects to really capture the feel of 17th Century living and, thanks to portal technology, players will now get to feel just how much bigger on the inside the TARDIS really is.

Accompanying the game is a BBC Learning Online Resource Pack containing unique downloadable assets designed to aid pupils in History and Literacy in the classroom.

The game is written by Phil Ford (Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, The Sarah Jane Adventures and co-writer of The Waters of Mars) and produced by Gary Russell.

The executive producers are Showrunner Steven Moffat, the departing duo Piers Wenger & Beth Willis, Anwen Aspden the BBC's New Media Producer and Charles Cecil MBE,  the genius developer behind the Broken Sword series.

Share Your Stories and Thoughts on Our Elisabeth Sladen Celebration DW Podshock Episode

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 09:47 PM PDT

Sarah Jane Smith

Last April we suffered a huge unexpected loss in the Doctor Who community and beyond. The death of the beloved actress, Elisabeth Sladen. Almost immediately following it, DWP Correspondent-At-Large, Colin (AKA "Abersoch") contacted me about putting together a special episode of Doctor Who: Podshock to celebrate Elisabeth Sladen and the Sarah Jane Smith character.

We had just started our series of live shows reviewing the new Doctor Who episodes from the spring 2011 series while Colin and I were discussing what we could do for a tribute. We couldn't record it then. Now that we are in between the spring block and the late summer/autumn block of new 2011 Doctor Who episodes, it allows us to record this celebration episode.

Barrowman Wants 50th Anniversary Role

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 08:16 PM PDT

John Barrowman told gathered nerds at this years San Diego Comic Con that he'd love to be a part of Doctor Who's fiftieth anniversary celebrations in 2013.

As reported by Digital Spy Captain Jack himself was speaking as part of the Torchwood panel where he revealed he'd sought both former head writer Russell T. Davies and current word wrangler Steven Moffat's consent to play with the new Doctor.

"I think it would be disappointing for the 50th anniversary not to have a character like Jack in that show. Russell thinks it would be a good idea, I've spoken to Steven about it."

Of course it all depends on the man at the centre of all festivities blessing- it would be quite a shock if the always gracious Matt Smith said 'no' to having Jack back inside the TARDIS:

"If Matt was welcome to it, because he is The Doctor now, I think it would be great. I think it would be a different kind of dynamic there with Jack and The Doctor. So, yes, I'm totally up for it."

It may seem like a cliché for an actor to announce that a certain role was their 'dream' part to play but Barrowman's enthusiasm for the role he thought would last only five episodes is infectious:

"It's the best coat I could put on every morning. It was a dream job for me and [Torchwood co-star] Eve [Myles] and then when they said they wanted to do a spinoff show, it was just like being handed our dream job on a platter. We never ever thought we'd be sitting here among people like you."

Whatever the BBC has in mind for this landmark anniversary lets hope there's space left for Captain Jack.
